Been marathoning this and the movies for the past couple days, it's been a blast. I gotta ask though, is there any realism to this at all? not that it matters, it's obviously meant to just be a fun over the top fighting show. But is there any real precedence to how the fights work in the tournament? elbows to faces, kicks to faces, is this shit actually allowed? and do they really only take away points or give warnings for obviously dirty conduct?

I did Kendo for 7 years when I was younger, and while not remotely the same thing it was honorfagging to the max. any kind of dirty conduct and you were out. if you went out of bounds of the fighting area you lost half a point, if you celebrated or even smiled excessively you were out. Is Karate really this lax on their rules? or is this all to add drama to the show(I'm guessing it is)

Kreese's Cobra Kai will start doing outright terrible shit, and so Johnny and Daniel will restart a dojo (or two), and at least temporarily work together - Johnny and Daniel don't outright become friends by the end of the season, they'll likely at least be able to put a chunk of their difference aside and gain more of an understanding of each other.

Also hopefully Daniel learns to stop being such a hot-head and jumping to conclusions, because holy shit, he was pretty bad with it this season with it.

I did feel it was a little too similar to season 1 in some ways, especially with the whole 'Johnny and Daniel reconcile, then something bad happens and they get mad at each other again' and of course the relationship drama. I can't believe the Robbie/Sam/Miguel triangle went for the whole damn season and still ended unresolved, especially now that Sam will hate Robbie. It also mirrored season 1 with the obvious 'REMEMBER THIS CHARACTER? THE'RE BACK!' with the final shot obviously alluding to Ali returning.

I hope for a few things

>Johnny takes full responsibility and actually embraces Miguel as a figurative son.

This is how you do a proper '80s throwback; not by playing it safe and taking the audience back to your own sanitized version of the setting - I'm looking at you, Stranger Things - but by bringing the era back to the future. Pun intended, but it's okay to call me names. At times, it feels like current year just stumbled back home after a rager, only to find the '80s sitting on the couch waiting for her when she switched the lights on. To get this out of the way, it's got stuff for the entire political spectrum to bitch about. That includes me, by the way. And that's a good thing. Anyway. Yes, sometimes it does feel like an overproduced music video, but I think that's just part of the charm. It even gets comedy right, and that's a very difficult job. Never mind the lough-out-loud moments, of which there's a few. But like, in a lesser show, one of the two little dudes fighting would've been seriously injured or even killed off for instant shock points. Here, just when you're about to dial 555-COME-ON-NOW, an adult shows up and disciplines them. Simple, subtle, funny. And it works for the pacing, as well. It's a moment of levity done right, and it serves as a break from the balls-to-the-wall action. It let's you take a breath and grounds the setting with a hint of realism. I'm gonna give the entire thing another watch to study the editing 'cause I'm a huge sperglord and I love that shit - Scream and Terminator 2 have incredible editing, incidentally - but I have to say, last time a show felt this comfy and wholesome without pulling any punches, it was The OC. I mean that as a compliment. The cast has great chemistry and that elevates the show. Legit can't wait for the next season.

It seems that miyagi-do is superior to Cobra Kai other than Miguel being better than Robbie.

He's still a pretty big coward, and that confrontation aside, seems like he's generally the least capable of the Miyagi students. Until they show more in the next season, I'm inclined to believe he only got one over on Hawk because Hawk was both winded from a shit load of fighting shortly before, and Hawk thinking he didn't need to put real effort in on Dimitri.

I agree with these ratings. The novelty had worn off a bit for S2 but they really did avoid a sophomore slump. I still think the episodes without Kreese were the best ones because the show immediately jumped back into what made S1 so great to begin with.

While I don't hate Dmitri as much as most people here seem to, two things -- he totally deserved an ass kicking after what he did at the party, and he shouldn't have beaten Hawk (or at least go to great lengths to show that Hawk was exhausted after fighting for so long).

Probably at that stage (show was an unknown at the time) they didn't actually know if they could get the original actress, so they probably left the picture blank so if they wanted to bring that character in, they could use a different actress.

It always was a superior fighting style. Sometimes it comes down to the individual fighters but if average Miyagi-do fighter A goes against average Cobra Kai fighter B, tourney rules, Miyagi-do fighter is going to win.

I think they handled Kreese pretty well. Part of the reason it avoided the sophomore slump, is because it didn't try to top itself - or even worse, parody itself - but it just let the story and characters take you on another ride. A different one, but the foundation was there to support it.

I was kind of sad that the character didn't seem to be having as much fun this season until the very end before getting btfo. Like there was a lot less interactions with him and Johnny and he wasn't in the show as much as before.

That's how I felt too.

Felt like there was just too much angst and negativity with him for a majority of the seasn, with hints of character change and growth. But we didn't get much compared to the first season.

I feel like what it came down to as well is that season 1 was spread out over a year, where season 2 took place in the span of a single summer.
