Unsounded

They're rifling through his things, now he's officially their father.

What's with all the lizards?

Don't mock nigger-poster user, they were banned for our sins

Could anyone here explain the profusion of persons of African descent to be found in this comic?

>One of the twins becomes a Ssaelist
Wouldn't that be something

Also is Ssaelism not well known outside of Alderode? I assumed that it was common knowledge, just considered major heresy. Maybe most of the world just sees it as a weird cult

These kids have spent their lives shut up inside this shrine. They don't know shit about shit.

That's true

Oh, man, this page is the perfect setup for Duane to eventually explain Ssaelism to them all later in the chapter. I kind of hope that happens now.

And the general populace probably only knows about Ssaelism as much as most American Christians know about Islam, which is pretty much jack shit.

Don't show interest in that scripture girls, Duane will spend literally hours reading from it to you.

>That's the weirdest cult I've ever heard of!
kek

She is the sacrificed twin too, so she's got a bit of an incentive to adopt a different religion.

Duane kinda looks like that Tarbaby from Return of the Living Dead, though his expression is a bit less "You wot?" than Tarbaby's.

Immaterial. Death will be indifferent to the small one's religious elections at the chosen hour.

Well they might matter here. If she decides to not be gefendur anymore, she'd probably choose not to stick around the shrine if given the chance

I wonder how long she's gonna have that cut lip. It keeps buggin me

I would doubt that particular outcome myself. Siya has been consistently shown to be the character most interested in Duane and his circumstances. I think she's just more open minded or at least more curious about how the world works, which feeds into her wild story and art ideas we saw when she was first introduced. She's the only one who seems genuinely concerned about who and what he is as a person. Even Sette who's come to love Duane in her own way mostly just goes with the flow with regards to him.

This has so far been completely lost on Duane, and her attentions have mostly been used as an excuse for Duane to be a total standoffish dick to her. Based on how Cope has been repeatedly warning us to brace for Duane entering full insufferable patriot mode soon, I predict tragedy.

Any minute now Duane is going to notice what they're doing and then explain Ssaelism to them correctly.

Not because it's dawn or any such nonsense but because Death is but a minor obstacle when it comes to explaining the failings of Gefendurism. Even better when the audience is Crescian.

>raised from birth being told you have to be killed for your religion right after puberty
>suddenly this cool book shows up
>tells you the gods are tyrants, made an unfair world, that you shouldn't put up with being made just to suffer and die
>Offers you the inspiring example of a man who took his existence into his own hands and rebelled against the tyranny of those very god's she's been told her life belongs to
I don't know if the story would go in that direction, definitely never occurred to me till now but holy shit could you imagine Duane showing up home with a Gheffie shrine maiden in tow?

Attached: OH_YEAH.jpg (733x560, 31K)

That's true, but I do hope he doesn't fuck everything up here.

Dammit Duane, I hope you are able to hold back on your geffie hate.

Duane, being a nationalistic pedantic blowhard is tolerable, but bullying children is a bridge too far.

All the more reason Ssaelism is superior

Ssael fhikemun rish
Such is life in the shithole that is the Twins World

see I told you

Attached: called it.jpg (432x255, 51K)

Even longer than Brothers Adelier length flashback of Ssael's life when

Duane doesn't deserve any of this.

He does a little bit.

The thing to note is that Ssaelit don't really do the whole conversion thing and switcheroos still face a lot of distrust. Like priests can only come from born and raised Ssaelit families

>could you imagine Duane showing up home with a Gheffie shrine maiden in tow?
They'd both be core leeched on sight

Fuck, I want this. Glass please

Is he gonna have to manually pick chewed-up lizardbeetle out of what remains of his innards later? Actually, Matty skin too, come to think of it.

>could you imagine Duane showing up home with a Gheffie shrine maiden in tow?
man at this point I can't even imagine Duane showing up home at all, let alone with a Crescian ANYTHING in tow.

Buck up, Ruffles. One day you'll find that deliciously filled spiderpaw

Listen, this story as of late has had a severe lack of big goddamn heroes doing what they can to right wrongs.
We've seen almost nothing of Toma and just finished a long fucking story where Duane learned about the tragedies of war while Jivi continues to be a piece of garbage.
Bums me out.

"Have you read the things he did for his Cause? He totally does deserve this." - the damn author.

>I predict tragedy.

Gee what would POSSIBLY give you that idea? The child murder? The mutilation? The mind-rape? Whatever about this by the numbers, coming of age story would possibly cause one to think something bad might happen? Discounting that vision of the future where a magical murder machine made of corpses and powered by the souls of tortured children was committing genocide. That shouldnt count.

Not that I don't believe you, but source?

You know that reminds my curiosity. What's the ssaelit position on eating human bits? Is it less of an insult from the gods to be eaten by fellow men than decay and scavengers?

I can't think of any particular circumstance where this would come up instead of just burning beyond the usual notion of pure desperation

Aye, I asked Ashley about something like that. Ssaelish converts are almost unheard of, because the believers figure that if your soul is ready for Ssael, you'll just be reincarnated into a good family of proper believers. And yet Duane keeps on trying to convert people anyway, even though the other believers insist that conversion doesn't reeeeeally happen until you're reborn. And he does that because, well... he's Duane.

It would probably be less horrible for the dead in question (Duane's commander notes that the dead in that tunnel were gonna be eaten by the creatures there, so he didn't need to burn them)

But it would probably be considered a defilement of the person doing the eating.

Maybe it depends on whether they have a method of disposing of the body otherwise.

If there's anything this comic is not, it's by the numbers. You fuckers are always predicting tragedy and it typically doesn't happen. All Duane's plats survived last chapter but the eldest, Claggart-sama lived, Roger got his just desserts. Ram and his wife got a happy ending. This comic's grim but it's not STUPID grim.

Obviously there's a battle coming to the shrine but I highly doubt Cope's going to outright massacre two dozen kids.

Cannibalism is explicitly verboten, likely because fuck those twin-eating scum.

This. If anything, the Darkseid-posting has made the idea of suffering and death a bit of a cliche. Cope has excellent judgment when it comes to killing off characters versus keeping them around. She hasn't killed off anyone that wasn't killed off in a satisfying way. Nobody has been killed off whose arc wasn't functionally complete. Crucially, none of the main cast have died yet.

Cope's not George RR Martin. I'd say she's better at her job than GRRM is at his. She doesn't kill off people for shock value.

That just made me think of sweaty private Elan Aled and now I'm sad

I don't think we are gonna have any of the main party die here by any means, but I'd say anyone introduced this arc, aside from perhaps minnow, is potential fair game. The story isn't 100% doom and gloom for sure, but the story is building up to something happening.

The water women want everyone inside dead or else the return of their kin, Cresce soldiers are sitting outside wanting to get in to kick the lizards' asses, there might be aldish soldiers nearby too, Duane is in one of his moods

It feels like SOMETHING bad is gonna happen and it's been a while since something bit and climactic has happened to the main crew in present time.

I think there's a sort of sweet spot for character backstory for killing purposes. Any of these shrine residents are roughly within the "new enough to be narratively killable" range

duane is gonna crash the pageant, symbolically kill the god-actors and then explain to the audience why ssael is king

Everything she says on the q and a

And he'll do it all in ad-libbed verse, because it's a musical after all

That would be kinda hilarious

Fuck, actually i can see that now. One of the twins clearly wants the play to crash and burn. I could see as a prank, her getting Duane to fuck with the show. Or else just fucking with it herself as Ssael

He's not trying to convert them, he's just a priest and naturally preaches about Ssael while yelling "YOUR GODS ARE DEAD" he's just stating facts.

TINK TINK TINK

>AHEM

He does seem to be trying to convert Sette, he got annoyed in the last dream sequence that she's still stubbornly geffendur

Last chapter had multiple Big Hero moments, most especially when Duane and his crazy brother chased down a salt kaiju and saved the one-armed kid.

I can see him heckling from the audience screaming that their gods are dead.

>try to lock him back up with the lizards
>simply uses pymary to magnify his voice to structure-quaking proportions

Gefendur vs. Ssael: Epic Rap Battles of Kasslyne History.

Is that a lion? Is Sette a baby jesus?

Duane worships a furry, confirmed

Yes, lions have always been sacred to them

*notices ur pantheon*
OwO

From what Ilganyag said, it sounds like she screwed Ssael back in the day and Sette was the result. The Khert is timeless and Sette doesn't seem to age, so it's hard to tell when exactly stuff went down

>Sette was the result
Senet beasts don't reproduce, so if Sette was the result, it wasn't by screwing. And what she was talking about when she said "the mistake we made" is up in the air. Sette seems no more likely than anything else.

This isn't exactly a new development, we knew about the facial markings being Ssael-related for a while now. Murkoph is still confirmed not to be him since his priests also wore them so he's likely just Ssaelit in some way.

Guys don't generally pop into the Khert and mess with gods, either. Assuming that the rules apply the same in these edge cases doesn't seem entirely founded to me

I was rereading some stuff and for some reason I think I remember Duane reusing this joke later with Siya or someone, she asks for his name and he jokingly says "Elizabeth". Am I crazy or did this happen?

oh wow a pic would help huh

Attached: unsoun_elizabeth.jpg (600x900, 248K)

It was Murkoph with Sette during her khert visit.

Thank you. Strange Murkoph would happen to make a joke Sette had already made. I wonder if there's something to this...?

Attached: unsound_elizabeth_2.jpg (600x900, 231K)

Probably. Between that and the mementos in Ilganyag's nest it's likely someone's been fishing around in what they're up to.

Oh no they're going to dress him up as Ssael for the play
This is going to get ugly

Attached: 1550389545797.jpg (122x125, 2K)

I've got two theories on Ssael:

1) Like Zoss from K6BD he was a turbowizard who breached the firmament in an attempt to meet the gods and in doing so literally inherited creation.

2) He was some rando who tripped ass-backwards into the Khert, possibly knocked up Lady Ilganyag, and stumbled out preaching revelations to all the blonde weirdos who would listen.

Dead bodies get buried or burned. Any form of desecration, including cannibalism and reanimation, is extremely sacrilegious. (I think they believe it fucks with their reincarnation?) Hence Duane's internal conflict about being a devout Ssaelit yet also a blasphemous plod. His existence is a mortal sin but he doesn't want to die. Dude's got issues piled on issues.

>Based on how Cope has been repeatedly warning us to brace for Duane entering full insufferable patriot mode soon
Didn't Cope mention that her warnings were ment for the Tumblr crowd? I'm sure that Duane won't be that bad

>but he doesn't want to die
Suicide is also a mortal sin as you are quitting life before you learn what needs to be learned from it. So he is literally damned if he does, damned if he doesn't.

Am I the only one who thought Murkoph kinda looked like Lemuel?

A lot of her warnings are for, as I believe she put it here once, the "#WokeLeft2016" crowd. Even on Yea Forums there were people who were absolutely awestruck at the idea that Claggart could simultaneously believe that because he was X, Y, and Z he was better than people who were A, B, and C all the while still being a human with a complex internal narrative, a personal history, and lived experiences that entirely validate his beliefs (if only because of his lack of understanding).
