Correct about the boy and the chick, but the Golden god guy not quite.
The show is a post post apocalipse rebuild by said golden god after a series of wars. To keep the masses calm he invented the game, which is a brutal sport with next to no rules.
The show focuses on the worst team of the game. The black lady was once a top tier pro but she got kicked out after causing one too many scandals and shit.
The rest of the team is made of endearing weirdos.
The show sprinkles a bit of its mythology on occasion but its mostly focused on the team, albeit there is continuity and advancement over time

One thing I liked about the season premier is how Umbilicus... just worked. It was effective in the fight with the robots.

I liked Season 1 more up to this point but its still good. I do think that sometimes the shift to way more advanced animation feels a bit less natural sometimes, and the premiere's pacing especially was too fast.

Pretty much. It is a weeby show full of references but without being references the animated series.
It is just an incredibly enjoyable show.
I would say it is great or at least very high mid.
I would probably give it an 8/10.
The animation is great and I actually cared about the game by the end.

Crayzar is interesting because he comes off as someone evil but most of the stuff he does is mischevious at best. Creepy smiling golden god who seems really invested in the Leptons's growth as a team and bored enough that he doesn't mind Ace using a world ending superweapon he thought he'd entirely shut down.

I actually started the series thinking Crayzar was going to be the typical dickish overlord but he turned out to be one of the nicest characters.

She didn't have the "burning spirit of teamwork" in her heart at the time. Speaking of that, do you think they'll ever go into how Ace managed to give the rest of the team a powerup like that. Do you think the powerup was permanent which allowed them to win later games, or did it just show the Leptons that they were capable of more than they initially thought?

I think it was just a very anime way of showing their true potential when they aren't arguing and falling on top of each other. Having a Ballmaster probably helps a bunch too, even moreso as Ace learns more on how to use it.

All the leptons are decent athletes hampered by some thing.
Gaz Digzy is a beast at the game but her substance abuse and all night partying leaves her totally out of it for the game itself.
Duneeda Duleeda is both incredibly strong and agile but her nice side leaves her very open to attack.
Leto seems to be pretty capable but he's such a lethargic sad-sack that he can't be bothered to put his heart into it
Flip is a capable warrior but he purposely limits himself and boisterously signals his most powerful attack giving people plenty of time to brace for it.
Lulu is a big hulking Behemoth but she's scared of just about everything so getting her to block is a chore in itself.
Bob is bob.
Ace is the only Lepton I'd say isn't particularly good at the game. But he's also the only one who's always putting their all into it.
