Yeah yeah, we know Catdog is "mean-spirited," but it doesn't focus entirely on a helpless normal kid getting scared, injured, and treated like shit for his troubles. That's the 1 hook of Kid Vs Kat.

Honestly, this show has the merit of not being made by a pretentious douche. It has humbler goals instead of trying so desperately to be totally cool and weird (or shitty and lolrandum).

Perhaps the makers hated children.

Nickelodeon used to really like the weird stuff and a lot of their marketing was that kids like weird things. I guess by design Catdog was something they hoped would be really popular.
