Is right now a great time to be an animator? With so many streaming platforms throwing money everywhere to secure original content, it seems like there are more studios popping up than ever before

No.
It's an unsteady business and most animators get treated (and paid) like s***.
Every now and again Anons who claim they've worked in that field show up here to answer questions.

why dont they form a union
or at least form a cooperative studio

There is a guild but it sucks

>why dont they form a union

they are just bunch of autistic losers not businessmen

I worked as an animator in France, I'd say that's the best place to do it as far as benefits/salary. Unions also have a lot of power there and when your job ends you can be paid up to $1700 a month for sitting on your ass at home for a year until you land another job.

no

animators are cucks

>like s***

You can say shit here.

is there a lot of work to go around in france? or is it all cutthroat

what school did you go to? I'm always amazed by gobelins graduation films

to be an animator you have to live in the los angeles area. its expensive as shit.
you dont have to have gone to school for it, but in school you network and networking, aka 'who you know' is how everything operates
if you want full time employment, like, you think you want to work at disney, you have to incredibly skilled at drawing and animating. anatomy etc also. you wont get a job there.
the rest of them work freelance and its like 6months of employment, make money, then the season ends and you are unemployed for another 6 months. then cue a desperate grab for random jobs via social media that nobody will respond to, because all of your friends are also animators in the same boat.
everyone wants to get their show made, and their ideas a trash. you wont get your show made.
if you actually are sperg artist that loves drawing and animating and spend all of your free time and minutes doing either of those things, then yeah, go for it. its hard work in a saturated field.
if you think its like, a booming industry where you can just hop in without real drive and make a lot of money... you are dumb. dont bother.

nyc is a no go? doesnt titmouse do a ton of work out of there?

you can potentially live anywhere and do remote work but most jobs are on site when you work on a show so you limit your opportunities greatly on show-work. there are animating jobs in new york but its a fraction of what it is in los angeles. if you wanted to apply to a specific company like titmouse i would try to apply to them prior to moving there. you might find yourself in a catch22 of it though if they only want local applicants. its risky because ny is actually probably more expensive than la. especially for poor a poor animator.

also i think titmouse los angeles office is bigger than their ny one

>going to school for animation
that would be suicide since fastfood joints are going full automation now

oh shit, i always thought nyc was the main office

yea i mean my real advice would to not ever go to college for anything art related, unless its free. teach yourself everything. but the benefits, if properly utilized are worth it. if you have skill and can stand out, the networking is actually valuable. but you can still network without school.
the point is, if you have lame generic ass style you really wont stand out and posting a million pictures online wont do shit most of the time.
you have to make friends with people that have jobs already. then they bring you in because you are nice, semi talent non-sperg and bathe. most people wont vouch for you if you dont have some jobs under you belt that prove you are competent though.

i mean maybe im not totally sure but i know los angeles is a bigger hub for animation, and moving to new york when you are trying to break into animation so you can get a job specifically at one company that everyone wants to work at is a bad idea. not saying that its totally impossible but the amount of work and social engineering as well as you actual good quality work will make you give up before you accomplish that.

>tfw you will never start a cincinnati animation scene

like a said you can do freelance work remotely from anywhere but you have have a portfolio of work that is consistent and good, catered specifically for the job you are applying for.

aye, but i said scene
you shitting around alone in your own home studio isnt much of a scene

yea i mean the bonus of living in a city like los angeles is that there really is a huge community of artists and they really do all hang out with one another, and when they can they help each other out with jobs. but it is a community that if you hang with the right people can be inspiring. it can also be horrible if you are surrounded by psycho spergs with no social skills. if you are of age and competence set a long term goal to save up money and apply for employment to get relocated to another city. it can be worth it even just for life experience.
