Personally, i found this better than Madagascar and Over the Hedge. At least this had a story, some romance and an actual resolution. The jokes were funnier too.

Nah, cancer

Never understood why people hate the Will Smith fish so much. He never came across as a bad person to me, just sort of an impulsive dork who makes dumb decisions. Come to think of it, he reminds me of Mordecai

There were some big laughs, especially from Scorcese and De Niro. It's more of than i can say about Over the Hedge, which only gave me some chuckles at its best.

Yes.

It still say the film is worth watching. It's not every day that you see an animated mafia film involving protection money, loan sharks, hitmen, gambling, torture scenes and gold diggers.

I love how people criticise this film's humor, and then go on to praise Shrek 2, which had the exact type of humor. Hell, i'd say that Shrek 2 had way more dated pop culture references and toilet humor than this did.

Quality matters over quantity. There's a difference between making an actual joke utilizing a pop culture reference rather than shoving a pop culture reference in our face and yelling, "Look! LAUGH!!!"

Most of those moments were small visual gags in the background. There were plenty of actual jokes and witty lines.

If anything, Madagascar was the one who shoved references to our face without any subtlety.

Also this. Wonder how long it took them to come up with that joke.

It's kinda weird how this was written by the guy that wrote Ice Age 1. You'd think they'd ask the guys from Shrek to come back instead.
