I haven't followed discussions on it outside Yea Forums, but some people apparently disliked the ending enough that Jack's VA got asked about it and got defensive over it.

I don't have a problem with the ending. Jack got back to the past and killed the shit out of Aku. Yeah, everyone from the future got erased but what the fuck did you think would happen? Just be glad we got closure and think about all the other shows that never got a chance to fulfill the overarching series goal.

There's nothing awfully defensive about this, he's right. The ending might've been disliked by some but it's the creator's vision. He didn't purposefully fuck up Jack's story just so he can piss off his fanbase.

Jack getting back to the past and having to live with the consequences of that is kino. More pop culture media needs to have situations where no matter what path you choose, you can't come out completely on top. Although I understand why people might be pissed he seemingly only mourned about Ashi and not about Scotsman or other people he met in the future, but I think Ashi herself is more of a symbol of how Jack came to view the future world than a character.
