Daily reminder that the idea that Steven only pretended to be nice to Spinel just to he can save the Earth and get her to fuck off is bullshit, and any indication that Steven never cared about her well being post-garden scene, didn’t genuinely feel for her after learning of her past, or would have had zero interest in becoming friends with her at some point is also inaccurate because Steven is a kid with a big heart :) As for why they didn’t hug, Steven had too much on his mind to fully be equipped to comfort Spinel fully. They probably would have hugged on top of the injector had it not have blown up. And he only “gave” her to the Diamonds because Spinel because literally expressed that she “messed up bad” with Steven and probably didn’t feel welcome on Earth due to the massive amount of regret she had for her actions. She was literally walking away to head far away out of Beach City when Steven ran up to her and reiterated that he would come back. He also asked Spinel if she was absolutely sure if the wanted to go to Homeworld, as he would say that the Diamonds are a handful. She went with them anyway. Steven only smiled because he was happy to see Spinel finally be happy and feel loved. They probably would have started their friendship had Steven not have misspoken his intentions when Spinel began to get delusional paranoid that she was being used and would be abandoned again. He probably would have been happy for her to stay with him on Earth if that’s what she wanted. But she didn’t.
tl;dr Steven wasn’t a cunt towards Spinel at all and the only reason he wasn’t insanely comforting towards her is because of the fact he had only a limited amount of time to fix the mess she caused. And he displayed a ton of love and compassion towards her despite all that.
Spinel was made by Uncle Grandpa. He wanted her and Pink to be friends. The premise for Say Uncle and the rest of the Uncle Grandpa episodes is that he is ever traveling through times and spaces searching for his missing daughter.

God it makes me so sad knowing how much potential Spinel has, had she been introduced in season 1, or if she was part of the CGs originally. Just think, had PD not abandoned her, and brought her along, Spinel would've been the perfect playmate and 'childhood' friend to Season 1 Steven, and they would've 'grown up' together. Like, do you remember in the early eps, where the CGs would leave Steven in the house while they were doing their missions? I feel like Spinel would've stayed behind and goof around with Steven while the other gems were off doing their important missions, while Steven and Spinel were doing shenanigans of their own, maybe getting in trouble due to Steven's curiosity, and having to fix those problems before the CGs come back.
Reminder that this show is just an animated telenovela. Therefore, it's not good television by any stretch. People just like it because it's easy, cheap television with no nutrients for the mind.

No he didn’t. He only had it in his pockets because he wasn’t able to put it in Lion’s mane because he didn’t have his powers. The only reason it popped out is because Spinel shoved him when she became paranoid that he was gonna abandon her, and a rejuvenated Garnet was seconds away from nearly slicing her head off with it. So Steven had to grab it out of her hands before she poofed herself again.
