im giving it a chance but only because i like long lanky legs

>Calarts stlye but actually making the most of it by being very energetic
I wish I "understood" anime writing. That's really the only thing that prevents me from getting into the medium. They have very particular way of writing that often times feels like they overexplain almost everything.

...

Looks cute
Is there porn?

No.

>Numbuh 3's looks

I refuse to believe it's coincidental. She'd be the perfect daughter for them

>feels like they overexplain almost everything
They do. Anime writing has no subtlety whatsoever. This affects script-driven western cartoons too but not as badly. Always assumes the viewer doesn't understand what they just saw so it needs to be said out loud by one of the characters. Even though everyone loves to hate on storyboard driven shows these days this is one area that they are an improvement, since the person writing also knows exactly will be shown on screen, instead of only having a vague idea like traditional writers.

Neat but still belongs on Yea Forums

Apart from the VN crap, It's clearly inspired by western animation, kinda like Panty and Stocking. Also, Tokyotoon, the studio behind this, refeers to "MARCO AND THE GALAXY DRAGON" as a cartoon.
I'd say it counts as both Yea Forums and Yea Forums.

>Western animation can't even call ourselves experts in shitty CalArts style without getting one-upped by Japan

Might as well give up at this point.

Huh. The japanese clearly understand how to use the fundamentals of the calarts style better than people who actually went to calarts. I hate the standard anime art style but this looks great.

I blame the kikes

Not that user, but I can come to the consensus that it's a hybrid at this point.

It's hilarious that, after all these years of CalArts shows, Japan kicks their asses in only one videogame and upcoming series.

Weird that it's a visual novel. I'm downloading the demo on steam to check it out.

You can get a pretty good idea of how it plays from watching the first 20 minutes. Pretty neat format for a visual novel.

>that artstyle
ignored

>dude the simplified style allows for better animation
>proceed to do nothing with it
I hate this circlejerk industry

>calarts style
Are you only saying because of the cheek cleavage?

Here's two of the animated cutscenes that've been shown so far. There's also english subs available.

I hate cal arts

Could someone explain what this is?
I look up that it’s a video game, but the art style is completely different.

It's a visual novel. The VN segments has typical anime art but the animated cutscenes are more in tune with western cartoons.

Attached: top_visual.png (709x757, 236K)

Blue jacket > far left brown girl > rightmost blonde > brunette on top > brown girl with sword > pale girl on left > blonde with flower > girl with glove > bottom right
People are gonna shit on me, but I like this art style and think it’s cute

Well the art style difference changes everything:
Brown girl on far left > sword girl > blonde with flower > pale girl on left > brunette on top > blue jacket > bottom right > rightmost blonde > girl with glove

So is this a Gatcha game?

There is something weirdly rubberhose animation about this.

Attached: 1931-rubber-hose-style[1].gif (368x280, 528K)

Lol Japan does the Cal-Arts Style better than all the shows we have here.

Somehow they are more expressive the more simplistic artstyle.

What kind of person calls their daughter Marco?

Can't believe I'm saying this, but I enjoy the more simplistic style far more.

It's more like Maruco

or maruko, -ko being very common for girl names

Based CalArts

That was enjoyable

This is not Yea Forums related, retard.

this. Fuck off, weebs.

Oh, so it isn't a show? A bit disappointed since I was hoping for a new Panty and Stocking, but this looks good so I'll probably get it anyway.

No u

>VN
>Yea Forums related

This thing just seems like a weird anomaly altogether. A visual novel that swircues between a cartoon and anime styles is just bizarre. I can't tell whether it belongs here, Yea Forums, or Yea Forums.

I would totally watch a series of this.

wtf I would watch this why is this not a show.

>that chiptune track while shes hoverboarding down the hallway while dodging explosions and gunfire

Attached: this i like.jpg (500x378, 119K)

That shouldn't come as a surprise. The VN portion's generic anime art has severe sameface syndrome like most anime. The animated parts look like they took they studied "calarts"/modern western animation style and actually took to heart the supposed reasons for the simplified designs, which western cartoons have ignored for the most part: huge eyes (even bigger than "anime eyes") make showing emotions easier, able to animate scenes that would otherwise be too complex/expensive like high energy action stuff, and allowing more expressive and exaggerated poses and facial expressions).

I would like to watch a full show in this style. Too bad the VN segments look super uninteresting. (I would be MORE interested if the VN kept the same cartoony style)

what is this calarts shit?
>long limbs with no defining features

I think it should go on Yea Forums
>not made in the west
not a western show therefore doesn't belong on the western comics/cartoons board

Technically it's not a show, it's a vn so it doesn't belong there either.

More proof that when Japan does it, it's much, much better.

...

>white skeleton looking guy with glowing blue eyes

is this literally an undertale reference?

It'd be a top tier Gacha if it was one, honestly.

Well, chibi's been used for that since forever. Adding details to the face makes it look stiffer and it's more difficult to convey emotions with a more realistic look.

So is this Yea Forums?

though it's obviously a homage to the CalArts style, there has been anime/manga with the similar artstyle in japan for decades

Attached: 71PHVRIVSeL.jpg (1095x1531, 204K)

literal opinion
Of course, they're going to put in great effort in for something like visual novel / game. The calarts look really doesn't look that much better than what you see in the west. and all the "kino" fight scenes are still going to be at a slugglishly low FPS. thanks, japan.

Attached: cvc.jpg (300x180, 9K)

>I wish I "understood" anime writing. They have very particular way of writing that often times feels like they overexplain almost everything.
you basically talk about shonen/shojo anime(anime made for literal tweens) and its reinterpretations by otakus(otaku anime which are appreciating anime made for literal tweens)
there are also “a bit artsy” anime/manga made for late teens and twenties, and you might like it

its shit

just like most cartoons and anime

um...

And Japan makes it work better than the west.

COCK

>heads fly away while bodies are in battle cloud
Holy fuck I laughed.

Nice.

The simple artstyle is much more novel and unique, and can be much more expressive. The anime style is just super generic and bland, like they specifically made it to bait in people who wouldn't give it a second thought otherwise.

Man this looks nice, especially for a VN.

>I noticing that when Japan tries to do Cartoons they make them Cartoony as hell.
what a fucking surpise

made in japan so it's an anime.

yeah just like amerifat and french try anime style they made with outdated or cringe tropes and stereotypes at least classic cartoons are timeless

Don't mean to sound like a weeaboo, but how come this has way more appeal than say Thundercats Roar?

Seeing both, galaxy dragon's scene actually Look like there was a budget behind it. Meanwhile, thundercats roar basically speaks for itself.

>one sakuga moment while the rest of the episode looks like garbage

Thundercats just looks and feels rushed, like they made entire episodes within a day. It has potential to be decent, but it's just so undercooked.

This on the other hand looks like it had a ton of care put into it.

It has soul

They apparently have some sort of "deluxe edition" of the game with artbooks included.

Also included is a Blu-Ray with just the cartoon cutscenes. Wonder if they included any scenes cut from the game proper.

God I hope someone puts these up online, I really want that artbook.

>Grabs health bars and snaps to get kills
She's brutal.

Saved.

So I don't have much experience with VN's beyond playing some lewd ones way back on Newgrounds but I thought that they had like choices and stuff that you the player could make to influence the story but this seems to be pretty much a straight forward thing.
So my question would be why would someone "play" this if there don't seem to be any real gameplay beyond just clicking 'next'?

According to wikipedia they range from being almost entirely linear (basically just clicking next) to being more like choose your own adventure novels with several decision points throughout the "game." Kind of weird. I sort of see the appeal I guess but this seems like the genre of "game" where youtube playthroughs would be by far the most detrimental to sales of the game.

Also the wikipedia article is ridiculously biased with uncited claims like:
>Many fans of visual novels hold them up as exceptions to the relatively weak storytelling in video games overall.

So this is like the only good part of this show, huh?

I read a review of this that says the only interactivity is a single choice about halfway through the game and it doesn't affect the ending, only that particular scene. So, to answer, I have no idea why someone would buy and "play" this rather than just watch a playthrough on yt.

I see. My question also would include any VN which is so linear as to just be a clicking sim but what do I know?

Not only more money, but much more effort and soul was put into it. No rushing here. Not to mention the characters and action seems much more lively.

I'm digging the minimalism, I'd watch more anime looking like this. I remember seeing a little bit of Shounen Ashibe a while ago but revisiting it just now made it very noticeable that it comprises mostly still images. The budget must be microscopic if both the animation and artstyle are limited like this.
youtube.com/watch?v=odvGVZAYKoY

Do we have the full soundtrack yet?

>fucking Mars by Holst
Well okay

It's hard to translate comedy/writing from language to language while keeping the same meaning.
Nowadays most Jap->english translators just say "fuck it" and slap in politics and memes in place of pre-established jokes.

This animation would be too expensive and backbreaking for western animators. This legit has more animation than most cartoons now.

This, Japanese is heavily dependent on context and that together with its sentence structure and delivery (especially verbally) makes it hard to preserve all but the most simple of jokes or wordplay for the amount of effort it takes.

Yeah, prettt sure they mean stuff like SU or Gumball, though the latter does have pretty good animation when it isn't recycling meme faces.

For the story, mostly. Most VNs are interactive, but for the more linear ones its a good medium when you don't have the budget for a full-fledged show.

Artbook uploaded, huh?
Now where's that link to the OST.

Eh, I'll take it. Looks neat.

Just found this shot that I've never seen before. It feels like they accidentally forgot to put this part in the game since I can't imagine that they'd willingly scrap a fully animated cutscene like this.

Yea Forums doesn't allow VNs? News to me, where does it go then?

vn are barely considering games speciali if has linear plot with no branching routes like this one

Pheonix Wright threads are fine there though.

It's in the name, visual novel. A novel with art to enhance the mood.
Things like saya no uta would lose a lot of weight without the visuals.

Try Panty and stocking. It is basically powerpuff girls style on crack.

PW has interactive mechanics and you can lose if you not solve it

There are a few clean looking anime out there if you dig.

This is just straight up anime. Why the fuck is this thread still up?

Bump : )

Because we're waiting for someone to upload the soundtrack.

Becuse anime runs this website.

I felt a little let down when the whole game wasn't like the cartoon cutscenes and more just like a usual VN, even if the story was pretty much a sci-fi comedy more then anything.
I love when Japanese animators go the "toon" route. Panty and Stocking is a huge favorite of mine.

no?

this is anime but I am on Yea Forums

I am not surprised or care much because Yea Forums sucks but I'm just pointing that out.

Sorry about your useless/dickless moderators

I've seen the trailers for this and all I really think is how I want the soundtracks used in them. Hopefully the OST is put up for grabs soon.

I wonder why only the japanese storyboard like this. It's really useful when you want to draw a scene that has a panning shot

cough

Because it isn't? The only parts that are anime-esque are the vn parts.

Anime isn't a style.
By your standard Tezuka's works or Osomatsu-san wouldnt be anime.

Moonrunes in the title aside, you'd have to be retarded to not notice it's anime
There's obvious western influence but it's not nearly to the point that the Japanese style is erased

its made in japan by japanese people you fucking retard'

>By your standard Tezuka's works or Osomatsu-san wouldnt be anime.
Well this place did use to have those Astro Boy storytime a while back. Tezuka's stuff is "anime" practically in name only.

>Anime isn't a style
Then why do all anime look the same?

Yeah, would've preferred if they leaned into the cartoon style more, but like said, they probably did it to appeal to a wider audience.

The mother fucker is practically the inventor of anime. The reason everyone has huge eyes is because everyone aped Tezuka.
I am curious as to what the definition of anime even is to retards like you.
The lowest common denominator is afraid of change. There is still a lot of variety but variety rarely makes bank leading to four or so worthwhile and visually interesting anime a year in a sea of souless isekai waifushittery.

I'm a fan of the animation, but damn do I wish there was more.

Who animated or designed this? I want more of this artstyle.

lets make america great again by abolishing the gayness and safeness in todays cartoons and opt out for something more like Marco & Galaxy Dragon, hmmm...?

I'm not saying Tezuka isn't anime, I'm saying it's so divorced from the modern standard for what anime even is that it can hardly be compared to it. It's like calling a wolf a dog. Sure, that's technically correct, but you're still not going to want one as a pet.

>sameface

Because actual east asians have sameface irl.

That's part of why stuff like Dragon Ball, most Nintendo properties, and even Yugioh (which I recently just rediscovered after putting it off for so long) became as popular as they are; whatever genericism lies in a few designs are often out balanced by the sheer variety of styles in many others.

Bump

It seems like anime is written specifically for people who play TV in the background without looking at it, which is weird given how much attention the Japs pay to the visual style.

It's especially noticeable in comedies where, every time there's a visual gag, a character describes what's happening at the top of their lungs.

Now put it through that hot new interpolation engine from the other thread.

Woah its just like anime

No. It's not good.

Is google banned in your country?

Looks awful. Like a Japanese O.K. KO, animation and plot seem to be all over the place. Would've been better as a flash animation on Newgrounds or summin.

FASTER!

Man of taste I see

Hmm don't all shows end up with storyboards though? What is an alternative to a storyboard driven show?

Also where do you learn about things like this?

Attached: 83f.gif (450x523, 85K)

It looks nothing like OK KO, id anything it's Japanese Star vs.

>don't all shows end up with storyboards
Yes they do, but when talking about modern cartoons "storyboard-driven" means there isn't an actual full script (like pic related) written. Instead the people doing the storyboards (usually a team of two per episode) are writing the script as they make the storyboards. This naturally lends itself to visual gags (or just more... visually aware???) since the person writing the dialog knows what will be shown on screen at that moment.

In traditional script driven shows a full script is written first, then storyboards are made. So the writers might not be thinking about what exactly will be shown on screen during a line of dialog, so for visual gags they need to plan them out ahead of time. This means a lot of times less experienced or just worse writers will have a character say "Oh no such and such is happening right now" while that thing is happening, as opposed to that thing just happening (and the audience knows because they have eyeballs)

That's obviously just one pro/con with board-driven vs. script-driven. There are pros and cons to both (and on Yea Forums people seem to really hate board-driven). A script-driven show CAN have just as good of visual gags and purely visual-only scenes (like parts with just background music and visuals, no dialog), but the writer has to think ahead to do that, and has to write into the script descriptions of scenes with no dialog which I think is hard for a lot of writers. Good/experienced writers can do it though.

>where do you learn about things like this
Honestly I don't even know... I'm not an expert or a professional or anything. A lot of Yea Forums and and following the shows' creators' tumblrs/twitter accounts mostly.

It's the little things that make this show terrible.

You still could've let the thread die on its own. Now I'm gonna bump it out of spite.

Based mods cleaning out the trash.

I'll do it to if you want, the thread archiving means nothing. it needs to be actually deleted.

Wait? how they the went from the modern day murder by the clowns, to the girl being in the tomb of her mother with the same clothes, to her being a slave in ancient Israel for the look of the background.

This thread was made by a janitor mad this got shit on on Yea Forums

Her mother was murdered by space pirates when she was 6. She was kidnapped and sold into slavery, bought by a crime lord, and the game starts with her on a mission to steal a valuable orb from a pyramid to sell at auction. Then she says "fuck it" and goes back to earth.

Well his first mistake was trying to discuss anime on Yea Forums. Everyone knows they have shit taste.

My impressions too. A shame.

Good enough to know this is garbage no one wants this
He's so desperate for affirmation he had t come here

A JELLY DOUGHNUT, SIR!

Please, the best things you fuckers ever talk about are Monetai and Lucky Star. Those are goddamn terrible, but everything else you dredge up manages to be even worse.

You seem real mad about this user. Take a walk and clear up some of that butthurt

Ok but why Ancient Israel? I feel like the rugrats are going to walk by with their Hanukkah story outfits.

Shit I dunno blame the jews.

Well it's clear that's not going to happen, throwing a tantrum over it isn't helping.

who cares about helping?

WHERE THE FUCK IS THE OST?!

She still is one, she just transforms into a human. That's like complaining about Jake Long not being a dragon 24/7.

>That's like complaining about Jake Long not being a dragon 24/7.
Not much of a complaint for me in that instance since he actually changes into one more often than not when he needs to get stuff done, which is more than I can say for the animu girl.

Actually she spends 90% of her time looking like this

Well TokyoToon announced this as a "multimedia project" so maybe they are actually planning a show and cut it to appear in that instead.

IT'S RIGHT HERE GOD DAMN IT ARE YOU FUCKING BLIND STOP SHOUTING

You were there? That shit was wild and unexpected

Ok so... as far as I know, we've been posting only the cartoon scenes, so that's Yea Forums, the anime scene should be (if so) in Yea Forums, and the game itself should be on Yea Forums ?

Ignoramus.

So nobody is gonna mention the mother 3 reference huh?

Not sure it it's actually as much as Jake Longs but I'll take your word for it, since it looks much better than the little girl design. A westerner handed the same idea still can do much better however.

>we've been posting only the cartoon scenes, so that's Yea Forums, the anime scene should be (if so) in Yea Forums
Actually the "cartoon" scenes still count as Yea Forums the same way ATLA still counts as Yea Forums.

It's basically the reverse of Jake Long. The dragon is her default form, and she has to transform into a human to do anything useful. I played through the demo, and in at least the first chapter she doesn't have enough energy to go full on galaxy dragon.

She has impeccable rhythm.

I like it.
Any draw requests?

Aside from the obligatory lewd could you have her match Squidwards dance pose in ?

>it's already out
>AND in English
Nice, I was following the project on Twitter until I was banned last year. Thought I'd be waiting on fan localization.
