I’ve never been motivated to watch any of his stuff. Seems like Hollywood fluff, like West Side Story or Some Like it Hot or some shit, just seems cheesy

He's an excellent "hack" screenwriter of the old school. At his best he's the inheritor to Billy Wilder.
At his worst his movies are Social Engineering trash and helped in the Jewish takeover of American culture. Even then they're interesting though.
He's like a Coen brother without the morals.

Ever since Husbands & Wives, he's been good on total accident. I'd say he has to stop working with first drafts, but he won't be working anymore now.

He did nothing wrong.

This. He is a hero.

hebrew crap

I like him a lot but I can't really watch many within a short period of time because it's mostly Woody being awkward/self-deprecating and getting the girl every single time. It can get old.

garbage person
garbage movies

This quote is so on the nose because Welles knows what he’s talking about when it comes to insecurity, he was a big guy with a large face but he had a very small pug like nose that he was so insecure about when he would go out in public he would wear a big fake prosthetic nose to cover it up.

not one of the top jewish directors (who are the best directors in general) but still very good.

from what I've seen I think Hannah and Her Sisters and Everyone Says I Love You are his best movies.

he's shockingly overrated compared to other directors who are hyped as A++. his best film was co-written with someone else and it's not a coincidence. everything else is repetitive and unstructured.

occasionally brilliant, e.g. Crimes and Misdemeanors. gross when he gets too full of himself, see: Manhattan. often charming and funny: Annie Hall. incredibly prolific, but inconsistent. Vicky Cristina Barcelona was trash.

I don't know, he was overrated 30 years ago but now I think more people have an accurate estimation of him. I think one of the reasons he gets so much respect is he is such a workhorse.

The best director ever born was an old Spanish man. Jews don’t even crack the top 5

Allen's films are stylistically bland and worthless, whatever merits one does or does not find in script, acting, etc.

Who are the best jewish directors in your opinion?
West Side Story is not fluff

most kino filmmaker alive

Agreed. You have to admire his output even though it’s hit and miss. I respect him way more than Terrence Malick.

Harmony Korine
Kenneth Lonnergan
Noah Baumbach

Yikes.

Terry is much better than Woody.

Everything Malick has made since and including The Thin Red Line has been mediocre to bad. I’ll never understand why he’s so revered.

He has some that are very good, some that are very bad, and some that were good in their time but are dated now.

I just can't get past what a moral sleeze he is: cheating on his common-law with with her own barely-legal adopted daughter. (That's his version. Other people have a far darker version.)

His early stuff is very good. He lost me around 1990.

Billy Wilder was a great director

Antz and Blue Jasmine were good.

>Harmony “I hate art” Korine
OH it shows Harmony, OH it shows. . .

The Purple Rose of Cairo is a masterpiece, really underappreciated movie that more people should take a look at

what do you have against the greatest directors of all time?

I watched Annie Hall and Manhattan, said to be his best movies, and some of the best movies of all time. They were both cringy garbage.

>I watched Annie Hall and Manhattan
they're not his best movies, but they're okay, you're probably still a bit immature to appreciate them

I guess I am filled with hate and envy towards them because I will never possess a fraction of their talent.

He's liked because you're told to like his work - his reputation is more cult of personality than actual merit these days. When he was younger trying to prove himself and to Hollywood, he could be very good. But once he did Annie Hall, and became the darling of Hollywood, and he started believing his own press, his work started getting more pretentious and bland. He's now in the "autier" trap - where every word is "art", and he can't fail because he's so "brilliant", but his actual work is for the most part forgettable. So they have to pump him up harder, because they can't admit they're wrong. So he's got no motivation to even try anymore.

It's sick and twisted, like most shit in Hollywood.

That, and we're supposed to think he's "quirky" because he fell in love with his wife's adopted daughter, and pounds out boring scripts on a typewriter.

He's more myth than anything at this point.

Bunuel, Bergman, Mizoguchi, Tarkovsky, Wojciech Has
That’s the real deal indisputable top 5

you haven't watched any of his movies, have you?

Billy Wilder was a great writer. Director, not so much.

You need a fair amount of life experience for them

Because The Thin Red Line and Tree of Life are masterpieces and The New World is great. His recent output is interesting but i can understand if someone doesn't like it.

babbies first arthouse director

>mmmmbwwwwaaaaah the...JEWISH campaign....

Has always been celebrated for its subversion...

I liked Celebrity.

Trump's in that one. Woody had no problems working with him.
