Marvel is around since the 40s and has multiple different characters, also taking place both in our world and fictional outer worlds.

SW is about Skywalkers.

It's old, not enough quip/pop culture reference and generally the new products relies too much on nostalgia value/old customers.

With that being said, watch as episode IX made another 1 billion dollar or more.

Star Wars doesn't appeal to anyone anymore. If the prequels were just now coming out you'd see Darth Maul/Jar Jar Fortnite skins and starfighter space battle game modes.

Because Disney and Lucasfilm never found a way to move Star Wars beyond the Skywalker family drama despite having a massive universe full of all kinds of toys to play with. Some of the writers for the EU eventually found the sweet spot of not about Skywalkers yet still feels like Star Wars, but that got jettisoned with the rest of the otherwise atrocious EU garbage once Disney took over.

It appeals to me more than anything (I pretend the sequels don't exist though). Knowing what I know from games like kotor, I think that the SW universe is the best s-f/fantasy universe ever created, although the most doomed and tragic one. The philosophy is amazing.
