Fun fact for those paying attention. Marv died in prison between Home Alone 1 and Home Alone 2. He never actually interacts with anything, and no one directly interacts with him, except for Harry. They are never referred to as "two" either. This is why you those with a keen eye can briefly see Marv as a skeleton.

If you pay attention you’ll see that Kevin notices his gold tooth in this scene, later in the film when the wet bandits are breaking in Kevin recalls seeing the gold tooth. It’s a very subtle detail but adds texture to the story. My favorite fan theory is that this is how Kevin knows the wet bandits are bad guys.

I thought it was to show Kevin was growing up and becoming less naive. Initially he thought the cop had a gold tooth, so all people with a gold tooth are good guys. Later he learns that isn't the case.
