A light speed trip to Alpha Centauri would only take about two weeks from your perspective.
Sure, it would take about four years of time from Earth's perspective, but even at a modest percentage of light speed it's conceivable that someone born today will live to walk on Proxima Centauri b.
Sci fi is just wishful fantasy for atheists
>4.367 light years away
>2 week trip
Nigger what
How are the perspectives different? 4 years to a human is 4 years
We don't have any way of traveling anywhere even remotely near the speed of light
>What's the point of space movies when realistically we will never explore other worlds??
We will create FTL communications systems to pilot drones through virtual reality and explore the universe using nearly invulnerable bodies that never tire or age while our own brains stay safely locked in jars on Earth.
Realistically we will never have sex, but I still recognize the value of pornography. Realism is overrated.
When you move really fast, time appears to slow down.
Einstein is bullshit most likely time is all relevant and the same. Stop falling for jewish science. We will go Faster than Light. You really believe because a jew said you cant go faster than light its true?
When you don't know anything about science but want to sound smart.
>Nigger what
Time slows down for you as you approach the speed of light so even though four years would pass on Earth from the time you left until the time you arrive, you would only have aged two weeks (and had to consume two weeks' of food).
>We don't have any safe way of traveling anywhere even remotely near the speed of light
ftfy
We could do it with a big-ass nuclear rocket but the construction and flight itself would be fraught with hazards.
>walk on Proxima Centauri b
>but even at a modest percentage of light speed
Light travels at 670 million mph. We're not anywhere fucking near that yet you fucking dip
>When you move really fast, time appears to slow down.
There is literally no evidence of this
alpha centauri isn't *that* far away all things considered
it's feasible that with an advanced propulsion system we could send a probe there
Not even a "nuclear rocket" could get anywhere near 670 million miles per hour
The higher your velocity, the slower time passes for you relative to an external, lower velocity frame of reference.
He’s right on the perspectives, but idk where he gets 4 years from considering we are moving nowhere near the speed of light. “Space time is relative”
When you travel at high speeds you warp space time. For the observer time Actually goes by slower compared to the person traveling
This guy has to be trollin
>we will never explore other worlds
so the human species as a whole is horny and lonely?
>theory of redditivity bullshit
an hour is an hour is an hour, doesn’t matter if you’re standing still or approaching the speed of light. You can trick yourself with all the fancy mathematical jewry you want but spacetime is a meme and they are not related at all.
>joo said thing therefore thing wrong
What the fuck is "space time"?
>theory of redditivity
just close this whole fucking website down already
>most accurate depiction of interstellar travels in your path
thats fucking retarded stop falling for shitty earth human science. You can go faster than light fuck off with this time travel shit too.
>alpha centauri isn't *that* far away all things considered
It's about 23 trillion miles away you brainlet.
Lol holy shit
yuh huh, some dude took two identical clocks and one that orbited around the earth was slightly behind the one that stayed in earth, never mind environmental factors or other errors
"You can go faster than the speed of light because I said so" golly gee mister, you sure are a smart one for a fucking retard.
jesus christ this fucking thread
Is it matter? Is it energy? It has to be one of those things to be real. What is it?
there was tiny jew in the clock that went to space who slowed it down
and that jew's name? it was albert einstein
It's a concept
>all these seething einstein redditors getting called out on their BS
I wuz taught it in a textbook that means its reaL!!!!!!
They were atomic clocks, moron. Little more sophisticated than anything you can wrap your head around though,.
Time dilation was predicted by Einstein and has been observed in practice. Modern GPS has to take it into account.
So it's not real? "magic" is a concept.
You don't warp spacetime at high speeds, dumbfuck
You're conflating GR with SR
This thread is full of actual retards, retards pretending to be smart and retards pretending to be even more retarded
>a jew invented dilation
shocking

>An atomic (fission) Orion can achieve perhaps 9%–11% of the speed of light.
Granted, it would take 44 years to get to Alpha Centauri using this, but it is technically possible to achieve a significant fraction of lightspeed based on our current level of industrial ability.
leave him be; he just watched interstellar
ITT just believe we will get this impossible tech bro science will do it bro just believe
You're part of a future race where humans have moved past the limitations of light speed and have successfully spread out throughout the galaxy.
Humanity discovers many worlds where intelligent life is still in it's infantile stages. As a result, to better understand these new races and study how their evolution organically shifts and changes, the human race creates observational satellites around many worlds across the sea of stars.
These satellites are invisible to the inhabitants below, but each satellite is equipped with a crew of two humans. They are told explicitly no matter what occurs -- whether for the greater good or detriment of the species -- they are not to interfere into the lives of the alien species under any circumstances.
You are part of one of these satellites. You have been orbiting this world for what feels like a century. You have only had your compatriot to socialize with. The longer you two have spent together, the less you talk. The more you grow tired of eating the same food and waking up in the same environment.
However, you soon find yourself infatuated with one of the alien girls on the planet. Your work slowly shifts from observing and documenting the species, and instead focuses solely on this girl.
You know that this alien society is deeply infatuated with a pagan religion, and frequently perform ritual sacrifices to appease their pagan gods. You learn that the girl has been summoned by the elders to be sacrificed.
Do you save her, or watch her die in agony?
Sure we could send a probe there. It would just take tens of thousands of years to reach it.
whole lotta american education in this thread
Explain them then, genius
Ignoring all the retards in this thread...
The whole premise of this thread is stupid. There will never be dragons but people watch game of thrones. We can only make media about things that happen? What are you smoking op.
>but people watch game of thrones
I don't.
No it's not real, you dip
Didn't anyone claim it was real
user you could've just linked him to a light sail or ramjet or something, not 40k tier fantasies from the 60s
No doubt in my mind this board is the worst on Yea Forums. Just end it, Hiro.
>pretending like you understand bogus abstract concepts because a science nigger on TV told you about them
Irrelevant to my point. Do you watch any other fiction that couldn't happen in real life? Then apply my point to that.
But I suspect you are being purposefully obtuse.
The point was simply that it's technically possible at our current ability.
You can see the light from a star that should be obscured by another celestial body because apparently gravity is magic and you totally wouldn’t get the same effect if you refracted the light through a lens or a thin atmosphere o wait yes u wud lmao and for this reason, your concepts of three dimensional space and the passage of time are the same thing, this is all the brilliant work of a german NEET who failed out of school and got kicked out of his homeland for marrying his cousin, btw
Please explain how it's possible to travel faster than light
>gets destroyed by a group of 10 space pebbles
>project
Lol
>its not real but it exists!!!!
So this is the power... of redditscience...
think our goal as a species should be to terraform planets and spread Earth lifeforms there
including primitive humans either homo sapiens sapiens or cloned neanderthals or earlier hominids or something, just let them run around with spears and keep an eye on them
we can just live in some artificial satellite things or back on Earth
Its the four dimensions used to measure the universe in. Matter and energy move through them.
@113349137
>outing yourself that easily
dumbass
We stand on the shoulders of giants user

I never said it exists you idiot lol
Is space science the religion of redditors?
>Asteroid hits earth
>We're all fucked.
We at least need a moon base and one base outside the solar system.
riding on nuclear explosions is as plausible as me getting my dick sucked this year
there are already well funded pilot projects underway to develop and test light sail technology in space
Yes, and Neil degreasy Tyson is their god
I'm no physicist, but it's been tested with photons somehow. It apparently holds up.
1. Travel at speed of light
2. Stand on front of your spacecraft and leap forward
For what purpose? For humanity to live on? Who gives a fuck?
>hurr durr my descendants will have such cool lives
They measure oscillation in cesium atoms, which have a standard cycle per second that doesn't deviate. With two clocks, you can compare how many times each of them oscillated over a certain measure of time. Less gravity means time moves faster.
Explain what it is. If it isnt matter, and it isnt energy, what is it? It has to be something to exist.
DUDE I FUCKING LOVE SCIENCE LMAO
Fucking kekd
You only get to enjoy Yea Forums because your ancestors were bros who set up existence for you.
Gosh if only we had some kinda space telescope.
So we aren't all relying on the existence and stability of one planet for our survival. Did you not get my post? One asteroid or gamma ray burst and we're done. But not if we are on multiple planets.
What is the void of space? Is it matter or energy? Just curious don't flame me
>less gravity means time moves faster
That is LITERALLY nonsense
>Explain what it is. If it isnt matter, and it isnt energy, what is it? It has to be something to exist.
It's gravity and shit
But would I give a fuck if they hadn't? No. So who cares
9%-11% of the speed of light is nowhere near the speed of light
It's a substrate.
Then we're done. Who gives a shit really
Its ether
Someone not as pathetic and depressed as you. I give a shit.
not an answer
kek
Lol ok go save humanity then dumbass
>reddit enjoys science, space, etc
>i post on Yea Forums so now i must hate it
i hope the next big reddit fad is wearing seatbelts
>"I don't understand it so it's nonsense"
If a minute elapsed on two atomic clocks, and one at a lower gravitational pull had 100 oscillations, and one at a higher pull had 90 oscillations, what does that tell you about the number of oscillations at a lower gravitation point? It says that more oscillations happen. If that's the case, and cesium's oscillations are always consistent (they are), it would imply that time is affected by gravity.
Sure we will. Watch isaac arthurs youtube channel.
Yes it is, it's the substrate on which matter and energy exist and act.
>two years into a history major
>always fascinated by quantum physics threads on Yea Forums and /pol/
>really want to minor in physics or math but haven't taken a math course since algebra in highschool (which I sucked at)
Is it too late?
What would a universe without a speed limit look like?
lol
>reddit wipes their ass
>*stops wiping ass to prove I'm not a redditor*
>dude reddit sux lmao, go team Yea Forums!
>the void of space
>the void
>void
>what is it?
It’s literally nothing (mostly) there’s all kinds of theoretical bullshit like dark matter or dark energy scientists think is out there that give space its jet black hue
And meanwhile you'll just sit in your room and be apathetic. Fucking wake up.
Or maybe the atoms- you know the things that ACTUALLY EXIST- are effected by gravity
>Terraform planets
Waste of time and energy. If we have the tech to get to other solar systems we have the tech to strip mine every rocky body in the system, convert it to rotating habitats and then house millions of times more people in an orbit around the sun in a dyson swarm. We could send out machines faster than we could safely travel ahead of us and do it all themselves, so by the time we get to the next system it's already pre-built and can house a trillion people. And the machines took a bit of mass from that system and spread to the nearest 10 systems to do the same thing, give it 250,000 years the whole galaxy will be habitable and waiting for humans (or anyone really) to get there.
Hol up are you basing time on actual physical clocks
>whats the point of stories of other civilations if realistically we will never be able to cross oceans
-cavemen
If there was "nothing" between the earth and the sun, they would be touching. Space LITERALLY cannot be "nothing".
that's honestly the most stupid statement I've seen all day
it's 1/10th the speed of light which is nothing to shake your head at
that makes a trip to Alpha centauri only about 44 years one trip
if the technology had existed and we launched a rocket and probe back in 1975 it would have reached another solar system by now
that's obviously ignoring acceleration/deceleration, the signal getting back to us, etc. but that's still amazing
OK so it's not energy and not matter
But it exists?
Isaac Arthur is talking about stuff that's easily thousands of years from now.
We're as far from having dyson swarms and interstellar empires as the Romans were from having airplanes and cell phones. "We" are never going to experience these things.
Hahahaha captain planet here to save us
Fucking fag
It's space-time.
You'll get nothing but meme answers from redditivityfags
STOP LISTENING TO JEWS
Guys guys guys we need a moon base asap to save the human race. We need trannies and mexicans on the moon base first, they are most important
the terraformed planets wouldn't be for us but for Earth-originated lifeforms to live on and develop
as I said we could live in orbital habitats and leave the planets for the lifeforms and even leave primitive humans there and watch them for entertain or as some sort of backup or just a curiosity
filtered. stop spamming your reddit meme, it is never going to be a meme.
Not an explanation
there's so much autism ITT but for some reason i can't leave

But user, they will touch someday. Everything in the universe will touch. All of creation is in one long spiraling fall toward singularity. This also means one day the star dust from my balls will touch the star dust from your balls and we will be gay in celestial eternity.
Lmao
...
We may not get star trek speeds but for our own survival we better see other worlds. Might be worth it just to shoot the hardiest of organic life at distant worlds.
Guys you can travel faster than light you just have to go really really really really fast
How big are her boobs?
arguing against mainstream science is the most based and redpilled of activities

Dude just make Sci fi real bro
A NASA space station went rogue once, and that was after like two weeks. Screening can fail.
Ive come to hate most space shows because they pass off theoretical ideas as facts and my retarded friends believe it 100% because some science guy on tv said it.
Now you're starting to get it. They are affected by gravity. Normally cesium oscillates at a constant rate per second. If there is a difference in the rate it oscillates between different pulls of gravity, the what affect did the gravity have on the cesium?
Atomic clocks that measure the oscillation of cesium atoms that have a known constant rate of oscillation. Not a ticking gear clock.
Right but I'm trying to figure out that one guys definition of existence. He said for something to exist it has to be energy or matter. If the void of space is neither, does it exist?
Naturally the pathetic and weak mock those with strength behind the safety of anonymity. I truly pity you.
would watch the fuck out of primitive humans chucking spears at woolly mammoth from my O'Neill cylinder
Time doesn't give a shit about atoms
Please save us captain planet
Lmao
Atomic clocks measure the rotation of particles to tell time. Perfectly accurate.
>Not having a kilometer thick shield of ice on the front to soak the impacts and double as fuel for your fusion reactor
Gravity gives a shit about atoms, and gravity makes time its bitch, so.
what the FUCK is gravity even

Grapefruit, but very firm
>ending a sentence with so
You sound like an obese American woman
We can't even move one species from one continent to another on Earth without fucking the ecosystem.
>energy and matter
>two separate entities
lmao @this nigga doesn’t know about energymatter probably failed AP calc too rofl
If I throw a puppy off a building and gravity causes it to hit the pavement and die, I wouldn't say that gravity caused time to speed up around it and make it prematurely age, would I?
Earth's flat, simple as
Any physical device to tell time is just that. A device to measure time. Time itself doesn't change. It doesn't speed up or slow down.
Why do redditors like space so much? Why not just make underwater cities and shit instead of throwing money at useless space science that hasn't achieved anything in 30 years other than announcing Mars has water like 10 times
And if romans said flying machines and instant long distance communication would never exist because they personally wouldn't live to see them they'd be stupid and wrong
based retard
You don't know the answer, then?
Judging by the non answers the spacetimefags in this thread have given, I'm inclined to believe it
Imagine being such a retard that you have to resort to insults to make up for your lack of comprehension. Sucks to have a shit brain, eh?
Because muh meteor is coming to destroy earth and filthy fucking humans are worth saving, doncha know
You're telling me that since a fucking clock slows down it means time itself is slowing down? Kek
BASED
>"There's more gravity affecting a puppy if I throw it off a building."
You're fucking retarded,.
>doesn't understand basic limitation
Based retard, just because planes exist doesn't mean whatever bullshit Sci fi shit has to exist in the future. It's a stupid comparison
Well you probably are a fat American, so.
wonder what it would be like if distant no longer mattered in space
we obviously couldn't predict the statistical likelihood of life on other planets without first encountering any so far but I wonder if somewhere in the universe there's humans exactly like us and if we could travel wormholes if we'd eventually find them
Dying is not directly related to age since birth
>announcing Mars has water like 10 times
why do you keep saying this same fucking phrase every couple of days? do you have autism?
>When the sun dies it will only take 2 weeks to get to a new sun using a rocket attached to the south pole
Just because gravity or speed is affecting an object does not mean time itself is warping around it with some mumbo jumbo jew magic. There is LITERALLY no actual evidence for relativity, you are a brainlet sheep
Are you unironically defending "I fucking love science! xD" posters?
Based redditor obsesed with post history, probably an election tranny
Nah I’m doublefagging as both a fartyface reddit nerd and a flat-earther retard I’m just fucking with you. Wikipedia is a thing dude go start with cosmology and start clicking links until you have your PhD
But we can accelerate at a decent rate. It's just a matter of keeping that going long enough to reach a good speed.

God, living on an orbital colony would be cool.
How are the drones getting there?
Gravity affects time. Therefore, Fat people experience time at a slower rate, because their increased mass. Ergo, in order to live a longer, healthy life, one should strive to be obese.
>Rockets don't exist
Okay retard, we've gotten to space, we got to the moon, getting to the rest of the system and other stars is scaling up tech we already have so fuck off back to your drum circle
You got it backwards. Time goes faster for things not traveling the speed of light.
Like a highway full of crashed cars?
Dude, just chop off your toddlers dick lmao what are you a bigot??
Until muslims use the portable fusion reactors to blow holes in the walls.
On a side note, anyone check out that new sci fi movie High Life? It's peaked my interest and I just downloaded it. Anyone seen it yet?
>Distance isn't real
Stop obsessing over post history that's not how it works on 4channel, this isn't reddit, tranny

And yet here I am, just reading this thread, unable to close it for some reason.
Can you, "learned men" and "holy men" alike, explain to me - why the fuck am I alive?
Am I even alive?
>break a clock
>SEE GRAVITY MADE TIME SLOW DOWN LOOK THE CLOCK STOPPED
You are a moron
Where is the evidence for this?
Order of magnitude, it's only one off.
Is that the one where they clone the Neanderthal?
It's all just an empathy teaching simulation you go through every night in your sleep, time dilation and full immersion VR gives future humans (you) the ability to experience thousands of lifetimes, some of them need to be awful to remind us how enjoyable the good ones are.
You are self aware, so you’re already doing better than 99.9% of known life forms.
bait or retard? taking all bets.
>Can you, "learned men" and "holy men" alike, explain to me - why the fuck am I alive?
For the last few billion years, the only mobile organisms that survived were the ones that continually chose struggling to survive at the bare minimum over giving up, so the ability to easily give up and die has been largely weeded out of all higher forms of life such as you and me.
It's hard for you to kill yourself because your brain is the result of a billion years of rewiring AWAY from the tendency to kill yourself.
Its what everything exists in. For a normal day analogy its like a piece of paper that there's drawings on. Matter and energy are the drawings and spacetime is the paper. It isn't something you can hold in your hand since your hand exists within it, it'd be like making a drawing hold the paper. However it can be predictably manipulated by matter and energy.
Its very important of course to understand that very little of this makes any real sense from a common sense point of view the maths has been tested countless times by now.
Could you explain that to us, perhaps using a simple household substance?
Nah he’s right. Just because a clock slowed down a fraction of a second on a rocket trip doesn’t mean relativity is real
>Could you explain that to us, perhaps using a simple household substance?
Basically you get a big hand to pick you up and move you from one place to another
newest protected off topic repost thread. based

When did Yea Forums become so anti-science?
>quantum funposting thread
>new
No user, you are the one who is new
as soon as science went mainstream ie. "reddit"
Serious question: was having a late night picnic with my scifi teacher, and she says the stars we see in the night sky, are stars that are already dead. The light just takes ages to get to us. So, she said we're always surrounded by death. I didn't feel like questioning it, but can we see stars that are still alive? How can you tell?
>When did Yea Forums become so anti-science?
There's a subset of Yea Forums that believes they can permanently drive all redditfags off the board if they shitpost ironically about extremely specific topics while maintaining a straight face.
>you can’t see it or verify it in any way
>just trust us tho bud
theoretical science is a modern day magic show
I'm just hoping our future ones will get the fuck off the planet before it kills itself in the next million years.
EVERYTHING is travelling at the speed of light, through spacetime. But objects in motion are changing their 'travel energy' into classical MOTION, which detracts from their movement through time.
You can stand still and move through time at normal rate, or move very very fast and move through time at a much reduced rate.
dude lets just all fucking kill ourselves right???
Did I say ourselves??? I meant yourself you sad sack of shit!
What if we already did
What if... we're the clones
One of the dimensions of size.
>"Nothing" cannot exist, it makes no sense.
You're right, but I never said spacetime or dimensions were nothing. They just aren't made of the matter we're used to since matter exists within the dimensions. They're still something, we just don't know what they are exactly. Could honestly be some kind of hyperdimensional paper that exists within a framework of matter and energy that we're completely unaware of. Physics doesn't claim to know everything, and its really good that you're challenging our current levels of understanding because you should want to know exactly what it is that's going on on a deeper level. We just don't really know what's going on beyond a certain point.
Right now spacetime is just a thing we've named. We've described some of its properties but we don't really know what it actually is on a fundamental level.
space travel isn't like push starting an old VW bug. you can't just get it going then pop the clutch and blast into lightspeed
>EVERYTHING is travelling at the speed of light
Ok. What direction am I travelling in?
>A light speed trip to Alpha Centauri would only take about two weeks from your perspective.
literally pseudo science fiction
stop listening to einsteins ''theories''
based schizo poster tricking himself into buying jewish science so he can believe his scifi larp
I'd imagine they tested the accuracy of the system WITH relativity considered, and without, and the one with was accurate.
Think of the light from a star as a stream of baseballs from a pitching machine. At some point the pitching machine will run out of baseballs, but the final baseball will take a while to hit you, and in the meantime several other baseballs will hit you. To you, the machine is still active because you're still being hit with baseballs, even though it hasn't launched any for a while.
We can tell how far away a star is, and we're getting better at gauging the probable age and lifespan of them. Most of the stars we're seeing the light from are still alive.
we've a fossil record so if that's the case they/us did a good job
or we had some guided evolution that followed a preset path
It's the Robert Pattinson movie where a colony of prisoners are forced to travel through space and procreate.
>theory of redditivity bullshit
LOL I just lost harder than I have in a while.
Missing the point. Divergences in behavior of objects in orbit can be explained in ways that dont involve Jewish fairy tales like relativity
Scientific theory says clock will lose a fraction of a second.
Test it.
It does.
Don't prove nuffin'.
>born to late to be a sea pirate,
>born to early to be a space pirate,
>have to settle on being a butt pirate

Nice. Thx.
Fossil records! Ahh, I didn't even think about the fossil records. I guess I'll concede. Oh, wait. One more thing before I do, user. Have you seen these fossil records? Have you... poured through the data yourself? The numbers. The figures.
That's exactly the point of space movies.
Interstellar travel is impossible.
So we make movies instead to imagine a better world where it is possible.
a light speed trip would be instant from your perspective because the lorentz factor would diverge to infinity, but thats not realistic as theres no way were going to be able to hit light speed or even close to it in the near future.
Obviously not all the stars you see are dead. The problem is that the further away they are, the longer their light takes to reach us, so we really have no idea whether some are alive or dead at a glance. But since we do know the relative lifespan and phases of a star's life, we can calculate it based on spectral readings and distance.
Hollywood accounting for embezzled seconds.
have sex
>How can you tell?
You can't. All you know is it was definitely there a long time ago (but also that they last for a very long time).
>Modern GPS has to take it into account.
3-dimensionally, whichever way you're pointed. Through time, there's just one 'forward' direction.
Yes you can predict the clock will slow down because it’s moving faster, I’m not debating that. What’s open to debate is WHY the clock slowed down, saying it’s because it’s marginally less affected by the mass of the earth makes as much sense as saying it got jostled by the movement of the rocket, or the ghost of John Glenn manifested aboard the ship and did it just to fuck with us. You can’t say BECAUSE IT WAS GOING FASTER, DUH like it’s some kind of rational explanation and expect people to take you seriously.
Then why do GPS satellites adjust for time dilation to get accurate readings?
Please answer in the form of a well supported scientific theory.
>Is it matter? Is it energy? It has to be one of those things to be real.
Is a vacuum, and the physical space it occupies, "matter" or "energy"?
>Time dilation was predicted by Einstein and has been observed in practice
no it wasnt, some scientards just extrapolated that because an atomic clock was slightly slower than one on earth it ''proved'' the theory. absolutely no consideration of environmental factors or human error
GSP uses as satellites as well and their atomic clocks are affected by gravity and their relative motion to each other.
That's why I said 'keep it going long enough'. You have to SUSTAIN your acceleration for quite a long time. That's the tricky part.
the speed of light is a spacial quantity sweety, its 3*10^8 meters per second, youre not travelling through time at the speed of light, that makes no sense.
yet another thread where /pol/ reveals new levels of their stupidity
>two years into a history major
EJECT
EJECT
If your observations fit your theory, there's a definite chance you're on to something.
you cant just accelerate at a constant rate though, as you get to relativistic speeds it gets much harder to accelerate. To get to light to even a significant fraction of the speed of light is far beyond current technology.
>absolutely no consideration of environmental factors
Gravity and speed are environmental factors. Account for those and the slowing down and speeding up of the clocks are entirely predictable.
when it was overrun with /pol/tards who hate intellectualism and see ignorance as a virtue
im double majoring in physics and math. Its interesting but honestly too much work considering how shitty the chance of landing a relevant job are. Id stick with history and fuck liberal arts chicks instead of staying inside for hours a day hunched over textbooks like me and my fellow stemcels
Is that why America dwarfs your country in terms of economics, military, scientific research, etc.?
Because they're so stupid?
its because they have more jews.
>late night picnic with my scifi teacher
nice bro finally made it
Science is literally a religion at this point
A mathematical theory predicted the slow-down caused by movement. It's fundamental assumption was that the speed of light is a constant in a given frame of reference (or something like that wording).
If something ever gets measured as faster than light, THEN the theory will be BTFO.
>because an atomic clock was slightly slower than one on earth
NO. The theory came first. The clocks just support the theory.
>Gravity and speed are environmental factors. Account for those and the slowing down and speeding up of the clocks are entirely predictable.
and what evidence is there that gravity is intrinsically linked to time? an atom is a physical object and therefore could be less affected by lower or higher gravity
its like saying if i jump on the moon and take longer to land back on the ground than i do on earth i am experiencing ''time dilation''
stop falling for the einstein jew
lmaoing @ all the dumb gentiles in this thread that dont understand how strong the support for relativity is. Brainlets will literally deny reality because the theory that explains it well was invented by a jew lmao!
Through 4d spacetime it works. You take your 3d speed as one part, the 4d as another, and it adds in a pythagorus type way.
what's the point of science and theory if at the end of the day everyone keeps saying, "you can't move faster than light" ? it's almost a hidden religious agenda, regarding the lord, of light. science was meant to make us reach the stars and understand the universe better, not make ourselves fat fully grown babies and/or slowly poison ourselves, dragging each other across this what-could-have-been life
seriously.
black holes should be proof enough faster-than-light speed is possible
Amount of energy needed starts to boom upwards at a good fraction of c, yes.
I have to side with reddit on this one, relativity just seems more sciencey than alternative explanations.
>what evidence is there that gravity is intrinsically linked to time
lots of it.
astronomy.ohio-state.edu
>black holes should be proof enough faster-than-light speed is possible
When we observe something exiting the Schwarzchild radius of a black hole, then you'll be right. But as of now, black holes actively disprove faster than light travel.
>black holes exist
lmao you almost had me user
That isn't how it works. The closer you get to the speed of light the faster time travels in your frame of reference. If you somehow went exactly the speed of light, the distance traveled to literally anywhere would be instantaneous for you.
>an atom is a physical object and therefore could be less affected by lower or higher gravity
Obviously it's affected less by lower gravity, but the maths has taken that into account and found it STILL went slower than expected.
I see. And you looked over these clocks before and after the experiment yourself? What if I came up to you and said God spoke to me in the form of a burning bush? If I present you with a charred branch, who are YOU to question my story? It’s evidence. It’s science.
>and what evidence is there that gravity is intrinsically linked to time?
For starters the fact that it makes things at least appear to be less effected by time, famous example is atomic clocks slowing down. This effect is proportion to the strength of the gravity on the object relative to other objects even when as many environmental factors as possible are eliminated. Its a simple matter of observing effect and deducing the causal link. If you have an alternate explanation you're free to work one out and demonstrate it to others. Real scientists really do love it when people do science for themselves even if they turn out to be wrong. YOu'd be adding to the wealth of human knowledge by doing so.
Einstein himself had problems of a 'what's the point?' nature with quantum theory. But hoping something is untrue doesn't make it so.
he's b8'ing, stop giving him (You)s
>mentioned 3 times in the span of a month
wow, that guy needs medication
I assumed he meant at, like 90% speed of light.
>For starters the fact that it makes things at least appear to be less effected by time, famous example is atomic clocks slowing down
again, that doesnt prove the link to time, only gravity affecting those objects that we use to give time measurement. there is no way to actually prove that those on earth are experiencing time differently to those in space
Fold the paper in half and poke the penic throu h it
told you he's b8'ing
Show me the maths that predicted the bush would burn.
I already said there's a fundamental underlying assumption, and yes, another is that they're not bullshitting absolutely everything, with collusion from all scientists throughout the whole world.
I predict that if I release this ball I’m holding in my hand, it will fall to the earth because the ball is lazy and doesn’t have the willpower to keep itself in the air. My friend predicted this too so there’s corroboration. Oh would you look at that, the ball is on the ground, my corroborated theory is valid! SCIENCE!
we're talking about people, not some off-shoot contrarian anomaly
this
these idiots cant even see their own confirmation biases
>no answer
>Gravity affects atoms in a way that has the effect they seem to have slowed down.
>But...they didn't actually slow down? Or if they did, it wasn't due to the effect that gravity DOES have on atoms.
?
>how does gps work
Dragons were dinosaurs.
If by lazy you mean 'Doesn't have sufficient speed to reach escape velocity', then you're absolutely correct.
again, that doesnt mean time is experienced differently by slower atoms. there is literally NO PROOF
>Freezer freezes water, slowing down its atoms
>therefore the freezer warped spacetime
how long will you continue to delude yourself that the century old ravings of an incestuous kike are true?
It's not jet black. We just don't have the senses to see everything there is to see.
I love this thread, and everyone in it. Wish I could buy you all a beer.
But these slower atoms, in all other circumstances, are known for their constant rate of oscillation. That's why they're used.
Relativity is an extremely well supported scientific fact.
If you have an alternative theory you think is better, prove it and win a fucking nobel prize you lazy cunt.
Water atoms don't have a singular, constant speed to measure time by.
Hey so uhhh, if a star is moving really fast (say in tight orbit with another star), then time from its perspective will be slower than ours, right? Does that mean that a star can die out from our perspective but still actually be alive?
That, or the ball just prefers to sit on its fat ass all day and watch Maury because its the product of a single parent upbringing. Or maybe God told the ball to sit down. I could interchange any of these explanations, because the end result of the experiment has validated my claims. A to C, B is whatever I say it is.
>the ball just prefers to sit on its fat ass all day and watch Maury because its the product of a single parent upbringing
God damn it, that's me, except I lurk Yea Forums.
>but still actually be alive
sweety, theres no such thing as an objective reference frame. That question is meaningless. Yes, a star could be dead in our reference frame and not in another, there is no "correct" reference frame.
>Relativity is an extremely well supported scientific fact.
there is literally no proof beyond the atomic clock experiment, and that barely proves anything
You are retarded. For a start, time will SLOW for you as you approach the speed of light. It won't go faster.
Second, it'll affect all physical processes, including aging.
And yes, that would theoretically even allow forward time travel. That is, if you accelerate yourself to a really high speed you will age far slower than your conterparts that move slowly, like your friends on Earth.
Does this mean I'm dead in another reference frame?
right, the atoms behave differently RELATIVE TO ITS ENVIRONMENT, same as with the "atomic clocks". This the movement of atoms has nothing to do with "warping spacetime"
I just want us to be able to travel the stars within my lifetime. Not me personally but just to know that our species managed to get off this rock and flourish. Otherwise everything in our history was for nothing!!!FACT!!!
Seriously guys, if I’m traveling the speed of light and turn my high beams on, will I be able to see ahead? I don’t want to hit a space pothole.
Disprove it then and win a nobel prize.
It's a win win for me. No matter who is right, better science.
>And yes, that would theoretically even allow forward time travel. That is, if you accelerate yourself to a really high speed you will age far slower than your conterparts that move slowly, like your friends on Earth.
ah okay, and the proof behind this is what exactly?
We actually have several ways, we just don't want to spend trillions of dollars building what technically isn't even a starship.
Viewed from most of the rest of the universe, our solar system hasn’t even been born yet. So it’s not only earth women who aren’t aware you exist.
Yes. From the reference frame of someone 100 years in the future.
It's been tested repeatedly and is proven easily. They've proven it happens with fornula 1 cars, Jets (including the ones you can fly on), rocket ships, ect ect. At the current speeds we travel in space it's even somewhat noticable to humans. And those speeds are nothing compared to what a ship leaving the solar system would be travelling.
Cause gps were made by nerdy fags trying to hard
So I could blast off to bang alien pussy, then come back to an earth that not only has survived a couple nuclear holocausts, but has also developed life-extension tech?
Which isn't that far.
Look guys. You're going to have to trust us college educated types on this one. We are fully capable to sending ships WAAAAAAAAAY faster then we currently do. The trick is nothing in space slows down on it's own. It's a little more complicated then that, but basically that's the law being invoked in these discussions. Now keeping that in mind, that we can make the ship not slow down, we can also keep speeding the ship up. With an ion drive we can keep speeding it up indefinitely. We can actually reach the speed of light with one of those things.
Eventually.
The trick is getting humans to survive that long.
Getting the metal tube to actually go that far in the span of a human lifetime is not the hard part.
Oh and our PERCEPTION of time doesn't mean shit. We experience it based upon our planets proximity to the sun and our orbit. If the planet spun faster, days would be shorter, if we moved slower, days would be longer. If we did either around the sun our calendar year would be different. Then there's our mortality which also creates the PERCEPTION of time passing because we're self aware of our impending expiry.
The problem is that fucking simpletons base their theories on our collective experiences and knowledge without acknowledging that there are things we can't even begin to comprehend outside of our PERCEPTION!!!
I had an argument with someone long ago who claimed to be a member of MENSA. He said that scientists concluded that the periodic table showed the ONLY possible elements that could exist in the universe. He was adamant that based upon scientific research DONE HERE ON EARTH was definitive proof of this.
You come to realize that people in the scientific community are just as dogmatic as religious zealots and it's because they have a system of belief's and anything that challengers that is a threat to them which creates doubt and fear of the unknown which is the greatest fear of all.
Nigger!!!FACT!!!
Humans will never leave the solar system. Forget about going interstellar.
When all of you achieve omnipotence as I have, you'll join me in the light.
Faggots!!!FACT!!!
