>How did they do it bros? Why have Japanese artists been unable to create something of this magnitude ever since? I watched a documentary that showed how the animators understood the schematics of the CD jukebox and created all these test animations for the arm to pick up the disc despite the jukebox only appearing for a few seconds.
Now magnify that into every machine in the movie.

Yep this is going to be a shitshow of epic proportions.

What blows my mind most is that in Akira they are hosting the Olympic games in 2020 Neo-Tokyo...
Camden Fisher
It’s technically astounding, but the plot is just scifi action and often considered a butchery of the manga. There are plenty other anime films that are as visually impressive with more compelling stories and themes.
>tfw akira is coming this year Blade Runner will be here by November, r-r-right guys?
Bentley Hernandez
I'm guessing it was supposed to be "must", since they call them brothers later on in the casting call.
What a seriously shit script though. It would have been so easy to preserve the tone and heart of the setting by moving it to Chicago or Detroit and swap the bosozoku with american style street gangs who have bikes. You could even Hollywoodize it by arming the gangs with guns and turning their fights into a proper ganag war. But no, they're just going to shit it up by totally changing key characteristics of the story and characters for no good reason. Hopefully this version will stay in development hell too.

>a butchery of the manga you realize the manga wasn't complete when they started the anime, and Katsuhiro Otomo wrote both of them?
Brandon Nguyen
>he is taken in to be turned into a super weapon and his brother nuts
Literally not enough money. The budget required to make something on par with Akira today would far exceed what it could ever hope to make back in profit. I think even Akira didn't do that hot at the box office. EoE is a masterpiece, but as a standalone movie it doesn't compare to Akira.
>Taiki Waititi I mean he's good at making comedy flicks, but do they really think he can pull off the tone of Akira? Or is this just gonna be borderline capeshit with quips?
Chase Cox
redline is amazing, but it's not a very good movie.
Should i watch akira? hate weebshit and anime but can appreciate good stuff GiS was good cowboy bebop was ok. Whats akira even about?
Dominic Green
I like the english version with Walter White
Adam Lee
He just copied Blade Runner. Stupid chink hack.
Christopher Peterson
I doubt you'll find a producer out there who would agree to finance an action film that didn't have quips at this point. The fact that they actually think that this sort of film could be commerically viable (even if it was perfect, rather than dogshit) in the cape era is pretty sad though.
Ian Stewart
end of eva is better

sword of the stranger is up there with akira in terms of the lasting impact the movie had on me and how many times i've re-watched and enjoyed it. i don't think it's a better or more influential film, but it's foolish to say nothing has surpassed akira. nothing has made as much of an impact, but we've had your name and 5 centimeters, it's not like there aren't excellent anime movies that can hold a candle to it.
it is an exceptional movie in every way aside from how it did at the box office.
Landon Brooks
Are you retarded? This came out 12 years before Blade Runner did
Josiah Johnson
you are doing yourself a disservice by not watching it. as to what it's about, a sci fi plot that takes place in a futuristic dystopia is about as much of a spoiler-free summary you can get.
Cooper Davis
The Wind Rises was surprisingly good. God knows why anime is what it has become. I cant even watch most of it anymore
Matthew Hill
Blade Runner came out 1982 you stupid chink cuck.
Jonathan Murphy
You shouls, but keep one thing in mind. Akira isn't lauded for it's story, it's amazing due to its animation.
Kayden Green
the amazing part is because Yoshiaki Kawajiri worked on the animation but he didn't direct it
Samuel Moore
And this came out in 1970, retard
Thomas Fisher
>Two biker bros live in a devastated version of Tokyo. >One gets drawn into a terrorist conspiracy and the other gets kidnapped by the government due to his latent telekinetic ability.
Ian Rogers
I don't care for Akira much, but I remember liking the manga better. The pacing on the film is terrible.

Waifu shit and faggot moe garbage have ruined anime.

>Should i watch akira? hate weebshit and anime but can appreciate good stuff GiS was good cowboy bebop was ok. Whats akira even about? I also hate weebshit and anime but Akira is a lot of fun.
It's almost about nothing. Basic synopsis is that some virus/magic thing infected a guy a long time ago and blew up Japan, but the virus/magic is dormant, then a loser in a biker gang gets infected and becomes Superman. Is it worth watching? Yes. It's excellently animated, and it falls in line to a certain degree with the things you mentioned. You should watch it, but don't watch it for a great story, watch it for what it is. It's not even that it doesn't have a story, or even that the pacing isn't actual perfect, the pacing actual is pretty perfect, but... It's not like a Western or post 80s story maybe. Given what you shared, I think you'll be happy it was recommended to you, and you'll agree with what I've said.
Xavier Powell
Akira is overrated, op. Stop and reconsider.
Angel Murphy
Is it though? No, not really.

Anime creators back then actually had passion for their work Nowadays everything is a soulless pandering cash grab
