the remake is better
Nah, shit film that completely misses the point of the book.
wow it's almost like it's not a 1:1 adaptation of it
who cares about the book
I do.
It's a 0:1 adaptation. Tarkovsky is a brainlet and completely misunderstood the point of the book.
Shit. Inferior to Kubrick's masterpiece that was 2001: A Space Odyssey.
Tarkovsky's masterpiece was The Mirror.
lol, who the fuck watches Tarkovsky for the story. Do you compare the 30 minute dialogless space scene in 2001 to the book also?
The book wasn't much about the story either.
Not the Tarkovsky's best, but pretty good movie nonetheless. Remake with Clooney was absolute dogshit though.
Watched it for the first time last week. I think I'd hyped it up in my head for too long and I was left slightly disappointed. It certainly deserves another viewing however.
Book is kinda bullshit
>10 pages describing liftoff
Film is kino though. The themes aren’t full explored though because Tark was way into navel gazing. He made sci fi but he hated sci fi. Kind fo like Stephen King’s criticism of Kubrick: tHe shining is a ghost story by a director who didn’t believe in ghosts.
>I do.
ur a dumdum then
I don't think Tolkien believed in elves and talking trees either.
It’s about having your heart in it, retard.
what makes you think he didn't understand it? his goal was never to recreate the book. imagine thinking you get the book when you can't even figure that out.
Think he means directors who aren't into genres, Kubrick wasn't a fan of horror movies.
>what makes you think he didn't understand it?
The fact he pretty much skipped all of the themes of the book.
If his goal was not to adapt the book then he shouldn't have adapted the book. What's so difficult to understand here?
>Stephen King giving his hack opinion
who cares about what that child molester thinks about anything
He didn't "adapt" the book you absolute brainlet. He used it as a framework to create his own piece of art.
Also the original book was a complete ripoff of Moby Dick
>10 pages describing liftoff
So was it a joke that Tark didn't show the liftoff and the character didn't notice it happen?
Where did Stephen King touch you?
Yep, the Russian Rian. That and budget restraints.
>Didn't understand the book either
I should have guessed. No, it's not a ripoff of Moby Dick. More like a precursor to Emperor's New Mind.
hey look the only guy in the world to understand Solaris. you must be so proud
The weightless scene was absolute kino
The scene of the soviet pilot starting to ramble as he describes the humanoids he saw is some genuinely spooky shit.
It has its moments, but it’s my least favorite Tarkovsky film
Nice cope but no. We discussed it in my philosophy class at uni. There's a lot more to the book than you think.
smart boi here
Nope, just not a brainlet.
I love it. My second or third fave tarkovsky
the absolute state of Yea Forums
come the fuck on, people here are fucking plebs, what the fuck, comparing fucking Tarkovsky with Soderbergh
i wonder what do you think about Kubrik movies based on books...
>Tarkovsky is a brainlet
kek, only in Yea Forums guys, only in fucking Yea Forums
Even Lem told him that. Don't act like he's above us mortals.
He was respectful of the source material. A Clockwork Orange misses the point slightly but I have no idea how else you'd film a book that's just an experiment on language.
