people keep saying "SNL hasnt been good since..." but just admit this show was always shit
WAS SNL EVER FUNNY?

used to be semi-funny at one time. but it really turned to shit once they starting hiring mostly "ORANGE MAN BAD!" feminist cunts and skinny hipster dudes with ironic mustaches who only view the world through white guilt and identity politics faggotry into the writing staff.
A broken clock is still right twice a day
they used to spin off snl skits into movies
Found the Trumpanzee
Norm MacDonald and Gilbert Gottfried are pretty much the only funny people to ever come outta SNL. FACT!
80s Eddie Murphy was pretty funny too with his all his "MAN I HATE THEM FAGGOTS!" stand-up specials, but he turned into a family friendly unfunny hack in the 90s
Early 90's was great
>tfw no leslie jones amazon gf to dominate me
There was an old chunk of coal that used to host weekend update. Wish I could remember his name. He's probably jerkin' off punks somewhere now, or at least friends with people that do that.

MAD TV was always better!
>Norm MacDonald and Gilbert Gottfried are pretty much the only funny people to ever come outta SNL
what am i chopped livuh????
It's never been funny, but every once in awhile a great sketch pops up. Obviously that's far less frequent these days.
Literally who
the show has been on since 1975 , during that time the cast and writers have changed over many times. Some eras have been funny such as the phil hartman era , when norm did the news. Some have been shit like the years right after the original cast left. Recent seasons have had maybe one or two laughs per 90mins. It does depend a lot on who the host is since funny hosts can lift the whole show up.
Jim Carrey was a great host before he got all existential.
>nbc.com
schwing
Norm will prob go down as the last funny person to ever come outta SNL.
they're mostly seen as hacks today, but the Sandler/Spade/Farley/MikeMyers/RobScneider/ChrisRock crew was probably the best group to ever do SNL. even better the original who was probably groundbreaking at the time but those old 70s SNLs seem so dated and corny today with the forced drug references and dumb coneheads and cast dressed like bumble bees crap
For me it's Colin Quinn
snl used be a shared american cultural experience and thats what made it funny. back in the good ol days most americans consumed the same media because there were less options so snl was something you could bond with people over and it wasnt political either it was just silly so everyone could enjoy it. nowadays snl is in this weird place where on the one hand they have to be progressive and edgy but also appeal to the boomers who are the only people that still watch network television and the result is this uncanny in between where the sketches are too ironic for boomers and too slow for zoomers
Bill Murray
Steve Martin
Dan Akroyd
Chevy Chase
John Belushi
Eddie Murphy
Chris Rock
Adam Sandler
Colin Quinn
Norm Macdonald
Will Ferrell
Dana Carvey
Phil Hartman
Chris Farley
David Spade
Tina Fey
And yeah it sucks now but it also sucked for the majority of the 80s
Alec Baldwin and Weekend Update are usually good
>Norm MacDonald and Gilbert Gottfried only funny people on SNL
wheres the Janeane Garofalo poster to set you straight???
i loved this when i was a kid
90s Janeane was a cutie even though she always seemed like a man hating dyke
i never thought i would miss hader, sudeikis, armisen, and wiig but i would take all of them back for the current cast
SNL peaked with Pat
Hader and Armisen always seemed way too talented and above SNL's shit writing. yeah they were actually the last 2 guys on there i would say had any real comedic talent even though the years they were on SNL still mostly sucked
I think a PAT movie could be hilariously today but no one would make it
better quality
Was the show always "lol republican dumb"?
Do liberals like such repetitive drivel?
the cunt who created the Jeffrey Tambour dresses like an old lady show on Amazon threw some hissy fit a year or so back calling Its Pat TRANSPHOBIC GARBAGE!!! lol this cunt is still that mad about an SNL skit from almost 30 years ago?
It was funny back when eddie murphy was in the cast.
When it was first created, everybody was drunk, high and gloriously self-destructive like motherfuckers. The comedy that came from that atmosphere was grand!
youtu.be
show definitely wasnt as annoying liberal in the past as it is today. Most of those 90s guys are all kinda rightwing or at least moderate/centrists (Sandler, Spade, Schneider, Lovitz, Miller, Victoria Jackson whos probably the most outthere rightwing wacko of all of them, Jim Downey who was Norms co-writer on weekend update, Colin Quinn who comes off as more moderate but hes best friends with Nick Dipaolo and a lot of those O&A guys so i have a hard time believing he buys into the SJW bullshit most comedians push today)
Norm claims hes apolitical but you know hes an alt-right trump bro! he admitted he hates Nanette and all those late night guys who basically try to be Jon Stewart so hes basically a comfirmed Nazi!
nah it was funny back when they were making fun of clinton
now its just trump bashing 24/7, no jokes just liberal soapboxing
>people justify Trump being elected with "haha well at least SNL will be HILARIOUS the next 4 years"
>Halfway through, it's still shit
youtube.com

Will Forte was the last funny person to me. Hated that Tim & Eric crap but the times he appeared on it were pretty much the only time their shitty show was funny. That dude was just great at playing screaming lunatics
This. Peak MADTV is better than anything SNL has ever done.
sctv was superior
Steve Martin was never actually a cast member
Will Ferrell was funny
Not really.
Ive seen alright skits from the 70s but every skit ive seen from the 90s until the present is just one joke. And they repeat that same joke for the entire skit.
Every...single...time
Pick out a random skit and link it to prove me wrong.
Its either
>guy does thing, guy does thing again
or
>guy has funny haircut, 20 jokes about his haircut
It was definitely funny at one stage
MAD TV would literally never be able to exist today. they tried to make a new version on CW but where was all the racist stuff and making fun of the retarded? IT JUST WASNT MAD TV WITH OUT THAT STUFF!
ah yes, who could forget the hilarious George Coe!
Norm is clearly liberal but he's just not a faggot about it
lol Alex Bornstein won an Emmy this year for best supporting actress! imagine if she read her acceptance speech in the ms swan voice? wouldve been classic!
remember when Dana Carvey literally had a recurring SNL character named Ching-Chang who would yell his catchphrase "CHIK-ON MAKE ROUSY HOUSE PET!" lol omg take me back to the 90s when shit like that was still acceptable
pretty much everything they did on SNL in the 90s wouldnt fly today. Another Dana Carvey classic
COLIN LOOK OUT THAT APE IS OFF HIS LEASH!!
good list, that pretty much covers them.
would've also added Jon Lovitz, Dennis Miller, Tracy Morgan and Kevin Nealon.
haha it really is hard trying to think of any women to add in there. most of the ones I can remember were terrible. Jan Hooks or the one who played Its Pat? definitely not any of the ones on there now god they suck
youtube.com
dunno if she was particularly talented but Victoria Jackson back in the day made my dick hard. actually shes funnier today than she was back then with all her "I HATE FAGGOTS!!! KILL EM ALL" speechs she always gives on Fox News haha wacko extreme republicans are hilarious
youtube.com
she really hit the wall hard. extreme conservatism ages you in dog years i guess
What about Amy Pohler
lol shes basically an even more retarded Alex Jones with a annoying baby voice
This is a SNL skit where they literally deny the holocaust... so yeah... SNL used to be funny as hell
Tina Fey
The literal definition of a sheboon.
thats because women arent funny
MADtv had coach hines too
Extremism of any sort brings that wall fast they arent meant for politics.
Victoria is almost 60.
Chelsea Handler is 44
fpbp
Toonces the driving cat was funny as hell
It was funny during the first few generations of comedians then it became "an institution" and they started circlejerking about New York City instead of telling jokes.
she was only on SNL at one point right? she was better before she become all woke and shit
he killed dozens
lol shes such a hypocrite with her preaching wokeness to everyone, bitch you used to wear blackface and use racial slurs in your stand-up!
at no point was this kike ever funny or given a role deservedly without fucking somebody
>Sarah Siverman, now who's funnier than her? Besides male comedians.
Norm MacDonald
Laura Kightlinger was the better version of Janeane Garofalo in the 90s! She was on SNL for a short while too, dont remember much she did other than play Marcia Clark in all the OJ skits. i think they wanted her to co-anchor weekend update with Norm but norm was like "fuck that im not doing the news with some broad! funny arent funny, everyone knows that!
haha norm rules
funny arent funny? oh voy!
that shouldve said "WOMEN arent funny!"
hey norms words, not mine!
upfront... im an oldfag
I was ~10 eddie murphy came on the scene it was cant miss. Even the bad years that came after murphy were didnt miss. Then came THE most relevant era. 88-96ish. Quality steadily fell from there. Musical guests have been a complete joke for years and the ashley simpson thing as funny as it was highlighted it was all fake.
I honestly haven't seen a single episode in about 6 or 7 years. Last time I remember it being hysterical was A Always B Be C Cobbling Always Be Cobbling. I used to like Alec Baldwin too :(
MADTV was fucking crass and idiotic, and I loved it for that. Goofy goddamn fun
The original cast was amazing, and it never regained it's original glory.
But it doesn't need to. It's absurdly cheap to make, so even when the ratings are in the toilet it still turns a profit.
>no funny women ever on SNL
uhhh.... Julia Louis-Dreyfus?
i mean she wasnt anything special on SNL, but you cant say she isnt funny cuz Seinfeld and Veep
ugh...... Billy fucking Crystal!!!
was there ever a less funny person alive??? the fucking worst
look at that background and that desk. shit is old.
If it exists I would really love to see the entire special episode of SNL. The Gumby Assasination episode. My mom was laughing so hard my brother and I woke up and went to see what was happening. My mom probably pissed herself.
lol ahh the days when SNL wasnt forced to hire black people into the cast! the good old days when Billy Crystal doing blackface was good enough for "diversity"
no Sopranos parody?
>MADTV was fucking crass and idiotic, and I loved it for that. Goofy goddamn fun
Will Sasso alone was worth the entire contemporary cast at SNL (excluding Norm, of course)
Gilda Radner is the funniest woman ever on that show
Cheri Oteri, Molly Shannon and Ana Gasteyer were all fantastic on the show, too bad as individuals they were as funny as a sack of wet potatoes
nobody wants to admit it, but the best SNL era ever (86-90, the hartman/lovitz/carvey era) had no black people! Chris Rock and Tim Meadows and Ellen Cleghorne didnt join until the early 90s with the Farley/Sandler/Spade crew
there were some funny things in the bad years. I remember Tim Kazurinsky being hilarious. The sketches werent memorable. I lived in those years, those years werent all that memorable.
Im sad Tim Kazurinsky didnt become super famous
pic included! SO MUCH WHITENESS!!!!
>Older comedians
>Allowed to joke about race and liberals
>turns out to be funnier than new SNL cast
>Huge surprise
This wasn't bad, I wonder who wrote that skit.
i think bill hader was the last good comedian to get out of the show.
and lorne michael literally produce a bunch of shit from ex SNL people, like 30 rock and now a show with that jew fat chick that has the charisma of... a jew fat chick.
> MACGRUBER itself justify the show existence
> norm mcdonald was the most based guy ever and all his weekend updates are kino
Just look at that fucking gorilla on the left. No sorry race isn’t a social construct and whatever that thing is has an iq (see: empirically genetic) of 85.
lovitz was a gas
they wanted him to do the news but he was in too many sketches and thats how we got Our NORM!!!!
whos that above lovitz? thats the years i remember loving the most but i dont recognize that dude
It was always okay at best with golden moments. People just didn't have the choices we have.
That said, it's more horrible than ever now, and they use "LE ORANGE MAN BAD!" as a cringe ass crutch.
>older comedians
>basically what black comedians have always been
Chappelle comes off as massively boomerish in his recent specials.
I hope this is bait, because if you find SNL funny now it's all nostalgia, or worst, it appeals to you're PTDS.
I want to wife 80's Jan Hooks
i liked when she used to do gymnastics and handstands on weekend update with dennis. dennis always seemed like he wanted to fuck her. not really a good actress but she was cute and likeable back then, lol who knew she'd turn out to be a tea party nutjob years later, she looks like some crazy cat lady now
This
I wasn't even offended by it but his whole bit on trannies felt like a boomer rant
I had a 60 year old professor 5 years ago. He loved SNL and watched it every week for 30+ years. Even he said it was in decline ever since Kristen Wiig left and barely watchable at the time (2014).
It's always been very inconsistent. People just remember the good sketches from the past and forget the duds and filler.
>Chapelle
yeh, were are being told how funny he is by media sources a little too much.
If he was actually that legendery we wouldnt have to be told it so much.
There's aomething real plant-ish about Chapelle.
Like how he was given so many chances after failing for so long when some people get chased out of the business after one failure.
In the 90s he filmed a sitcom pilot every year and they never got picked up because of poor focus group response.
Sounds based. Boomers that aren't hippies or Ashkenazi Jews make degenerates seethe. Anyone got a link?
think about all the greats who came from SNL.
then think about what we have now. Leslie Jones. Pete Davidson. Michael Che. Colin Jost. Fat Broad. Lesbian Broad Who Plays Hillary. YEEESH!
It all went downhill in the early 2000s when these 2 retards joined the show and starting laughing in every skit. I think thats when Lorne stopped caring and just started to hire unprofessional retards who cant act
Nah it isnt.
He still does the same stale wypypo jokes that every black comedian does.
>awww sheeit deyz sum wypipo up in hurr aww sheeit dey skurred dey bout to get robbed
The fag
The other fag
Black guy
WHAT THE FUCK IS THAT GORILLA DOING ON MY TV
Some lesbian
Alec Baldwin
Am I missing any current cast?
> reality check: black comedians have a career because white ones are now allowed to say "nigger".
they only exist to fill this gap, because americans allow themselves to be bitches of 10% of the population.
if people want a short sketch they'll watch it on youtube, and the production values will be higher than SNL
I watched Norm as Weekend Update host when I was a boy, 11 to 14 or 15.
Shit was cash. Anyone doubting SNL ever being good is a retarded infant.
It's trash af these days tho. Stopped watching a few years back and haven't missed it one bit.
The scene where he tries to get fat again at the craft service table, spots a small dog whining, stares at it wide eyed and intently, and a hard cut to a microwave running is better than 99% of SNL.
That said, WKUK is king.
When everybody is relieved his/her romantic interest will soon show up, only to also be incredibly androgenous, is a great scene.
idk, it always seemed to pre-set and intentionally playing safe to be seriously funny, if they had the guts to be as edgy as something like it's always sunny or even just what norm does unleashed it'd be 1,000 time better
I don't think a single skit ever got a hardcore side-bursting laugh out of me, though a handful of comedians doing monologues or weekly update with single good jokes have
norm was certainly the funniest thing ever on there
A. Whitney Brown. He was also one of the original comedians on pre-Stewart Daily Show.
No, he really was that funny. Guess you had to be there.
I'd say the way he went after Michael Jackson was pretty edgy.
I was there, he had some funny stand up specials and Half Baked, that was about it. He was legit funny but something is weird about the way he gets pushed so hard. Mainly only white ppl liked him back then. Black people didnt really like him that much until chapelle show
80s SNL was wild. That first cast after the originals left was atrocious. When they finally figured out that Eddie Murphy had talent (he would make the cast crack up backstage but never get into the show in his early days on SNL) they put him front and centre and he was a like a rock star.
When Eddie left Dick Ebersoll had that one year cast of ringers like Billy Crystal, Martin Short, etc. which was actually very, very good. It was unorthodox compared to other seasons but watch the sketch where Martin Short and what's his name play male synchronized swimmers.
The show went shit again when Lorne returned the next year as the cast bombed. Only when Hartman, Nealon, Lovitz, Jan Hooks, and Carvey showed up did it get good again and it got quite good. Hartman is GOAT.
They are notorious for banning anybody who did anything edgy.
Norm was fired for OJ jokes.
Lots of musicians were banned for trying to have an edgy moment during a performance.
The comedy should come from the performance, but Chappelle does sound genuinely angry. He gets really defensive about his muslim wife, though.
>t.Zoomer
The old stuff was great, it may not hold up today but the 80's stuff was great. Lots of drugs and alcohol in that period as well.
SCTV > MadTV > SNL
>80s Eddie Murphy was pretty funny too with his all his "MAN I HATE THEM FAGGOTS!"
>SCTV > MadTV > SNL
Nothing comes close or will ever come close to SCTV.
>watching dumb sketches for 2 hours
is this considered entertainment in America?
Late 70s through mid 80s was hilarious
This. They had the best cast, better than anything before or since.
Dana Carvey, MIke myers, Phil hartman, Chris Rock, Chris farley, tim meadows, dennis miller, kevin nealon, jan hooks, adam sandler, rob schneider, david spade, norm macdonald, michael mckean
Losing Chris Kattan didn't help.
I know Chappelle had an ankh woke nigga moment, but he was pretty good at being an equal opportunity offender back in the day.
It's a shame if he's lost that.
his recent specials are awful, still making lame oj simpson jokes and dad jokes you've heard before, it's embarrassing
yea, and they fired him for it. his MJ and OJ stuff was fucking hilarious
I'm not saying you can't be funny without being edgy (half of Norm's bits are totally clean and just bank on his delivery) but when you're trying to make a totally comedy show based entirely on pop culture and news-of-the-day, especially as celebrity is more a thing and culture gets more dirty, you gotta keep pace
exactly. when the topics of your skits are sex scandals, murder, celebrity indecency, and mocking whatever the climate of the day is, SNL has flunked because it won't go on full blast, or alternatively commit to actually being clean like older late night/sketch shows
it keeps trying to walk the line of being hip but still family friendly and ends sucking at both
and now they have the even worse problem of terrible hack casts with no sense of humor
early 90's
norm mcdonald joke.
> picture of bill and hillary.
> monica lewisnky scandal.
> "heres the president and the first bitch."
it is sad to imagine that there are people that couldnt experience how free we used to be.
Eddie Murphy Raw was fucking great all the way through, and I'm a bit racist after living in the poorest of white and black neighborhoods. I'm sure my race and racism plays into this, as well as the race and racism of those around me.
Black guys have my respect for honest thot patrolling, if nothing else. And it's expected (coal toll or whatever plus media blind eye) so they get away with it way more.
I'm still amazed at how balanced the IASIP gun issue episode is. It doesn't seem like they are favoring one view over the other at all.
I would say somewhere after 95 it went downhill big time. It was when most of these people left or where already gone. In 1996 there was a big change up in the cast, pretty sure that is when Will Farrell and his SNL group came in. Just stop watching after a few episode after seeing how shit it was in 96, so maybe it got better once (if?) Farrell found his groove.
>give him a break, would ya? he's retarded!
lmaoooooo
>that's the most disgusting thing i've ever seen
>well then you've never seen him eat
i forgot how funny this was lllllooooooooooo
somehow they figured out how to punch up (which is kinda funny) by punching down (which is really, really funny).
Dan Ackroyd is the greatest sketch comedian and writer of all time.
"Beside dudes"
i love this comic. there's a joke in every panel
I miss Bill Hader, bros.
lots of the early seasons did this very well. it wasn't until 9 or 10 they went completely off the teetertotter.
Back in the early to mid 90s it hit its peak, then it was okay into the early 2000s. After that, the showrunners increasingly doubled down on clear political favoritism inclined to the left/liberals & progressives and now you're lucky if they manage one funny joke with the punchline being ad naseum raped for the rest of a season in some variation or another.
It's always been humor aimed at young adults and teenagers. It's always been dumb and unfunny.
Source: liked old SNL as a kid.
I’ll take whore ads for 300
>Tina Fey
No.
Its both a happy yet depressing sentiment I feel seeing old-school MADTV considering how racy, intentionally edgy, and what not a lot of its skits were even up to its final season. But also knowing that the show if it were to exist now wouldn't survive without actual scandal because political correctness would doom it.
>The New York Post has reported that Michael Jackson wants his closest friend in the world, Elizabeth Taylor, to be the godmother of his child.
However, those close to the pair worry that this could eventually lead to heated arguments over whether the child will be molested, or eaten.
LMFAOOOOOOO
amen
>makes pin up board mocking Christians
>Lol xD so funny guise
>sees road marking not even close to a Swastika
>H-help me!! Literally Holocaust Drumpf
The absolute state of female ((comedians))
Also Norm,
" Look here's a semi attractive girl that swears a lot. Sign her up immediately"
They taped skits are funnier then anything they do live, but the taped skits aren't funny at all.
>be funniest SNL cast member in years
>all your sketches get cut for time
It hurts
Imagine making Transparent but taking yourself seriously and making it a drama and not comedy.
IT'S WAYNE'S WORLD
WAYNE'S WORLD
PARTY TIME
EXCELLENT!!!
Actual trannies hate Transparent too cause none of the MTFs pass at all and look like garbage but of course speed hacking tumblr just eats it up like it's supposed to be reality and not insanity.
So gay dude
That Martin Short, Billy Crystal, Christopher Guest year had to be good, right? I mean that's too much talent to fuck up.
>al sharpton behind me
>i dunno why he was there
Kek. Cant say i disagree
What? Billy crystal is funny.
Friendly reminder the Chevy Chase admitted the SNL was a propaganda machine from the start.
Chappelles specials were fuckin atrocious. I thought he had more comedic sense
It was never about the content but about the people, all the funny people left the show already so that's it.
He left for africa because everybody want him to dance around on the stage like a good uppity nigger, but he came back because the money was too good. He's a cuck
Maybe in 75,yeah
/thread
in what?
Only funny thing ive seen him do is Miracle Max
City Slickers was funny but not because of him.
This lineup sucked dick except for shearer and short
>"I wanted carter in and I knew we reached a lot of people so I tried my best to make Ford look bad. What do you think they're doing now? You think they're doing it because it's funny?"
>“I’m amazed that Lorne [Michaels] has gone so low. I had to watch a little of it, and I just couldn’t f—ing believe it,” Chase told the Washington Post. “That means a whole generation of s—heads laughs at the worst f—ing humor in the world. You know what I mean? How could you dare give that generation worse s— than they already have in their lives? It just drives me nuts.”
youtube.com
>"WOMEN arent funny!"
that's ultimately what John Belushi believed
I always liked rich hall and Mary gross both pretty underrated. Chris guest was good too that was a good season except for all the billy crystal stuff
And he used to stop the show dead in its tracks every time with his 'observations'. I swear Lorne Michaels owed him money or something.
Analyze this. Dude has chops come on
Yeah good thing Will "Spirit Cookin" Ferrel showed up.
it had funny people on it but never even equaled the sum of its parts
Dan Ackroyd's comedic talent was buried on Martha's Vineyard in 1982.
>show definitely wasnt as annoying liberal in the past as it is today.
Nigger, have you even SEEN the first seasons? Their entire main writing staff, guys like Al Franken, were BRUTAL to people like Nixon. Ackroyds Nixon was fucking fantastic. Chevy Chase made his entire career imitation Ford.
>Netflix will cancel the Norm series and never allow reuploads of the old NML to YouTube
Can anyone hook a brother up with those mirrors?
Norm had a netflix show? How? Did they kidnap his son?
The current Pete Davidson SNL makes the Joe Piscopo SNL look kino even and that's a fucking low in itself.
He wasn't even that strong on MadTV, because the OG cast was so fucking good. Michael McDonald, Mo Collins, Debra Wilson, Alex Borstein, and Sasso made MadTV so fucking brilliant, everything after they left was a pale imitation.
Is that the stacked brunette from mullholand drive?
Chappelle's series was and still is good - but that's because he had some heavy hitting writers on it, especially Neal Brennan.
Lines from the show are now part of the culture. "I'm Rick James, bitch!" especially. It's legit funny.
SCTV was great, but it hasn't aged well, too many of the things they reference haven't existed in decades. They were a fucking powerhouse, as every main cast member had monster careers, some still going.
Kids In The Hall is it's equal, imho.
But I like all of them - SCTV, Kids In The Halls, The Whitest Kids You Know, MadTV, Living Color, Chapelle, older seasons of SCTV, Mr. Show, etc. I'm old as fuck, I saw them all. Even Fridays, the show that gave us Michael Richards and Rich Hall (and where Larry David found Richards).
The only ensemble show I didn't like was Schumer's. Even that shit show Fridays in the 80's was better.
yeah i never got the appeal of that guy, was he just a buddy of Dennis Miller or something? those "Big Picture" segments were fucking brutal
MAD was so fucking good, all their shit would be seen as so insensative today, i wish they would rerun on somehwre. same with In Living Color, the PC fags would never let shit like that air today.
youtube.com
it seems like all the Michael McDonald centric stuff esp would never be allowed. dude made fun of retarded people and fat people so much in his skits
His wife was a big wig new york newspaper designer who has since left the business and is shilled by NYT.
Father Guido Sarducci was another one He was blowing someone for that job.
oh my god i hating that fucking Father Sarducci garbage. god they ran the worst shit into the ground in those 70s SNLs, i dont know how those are held with such high regard, i guess just cuz its the original years
Crystal was really good on Soap, too. That show is criminally underrated.
Melanie Hutsell shoulda been a bigger star! she was the only memorable women from the Sandler years, her Tori Spelling, Jan Brady and Tanya Harding impressions were gold!
He was one of the main writers for the show. They all did bit parts - Franken and Davis, Novello, Buck Henry, and O'donohough were writers, as well. Chevy was hired as a writer, first, too. The whole cast ended up writing eventually, but starting out, the main writers got themselves on air all the time.
>O'donohough
If this guy had stuck around as as writer, they'd have 10x as ubversive as it was.Probably most of his stuff would've made it on air. That's what SNL misses when it sucks - that element of danger.
*wouldn't have
He didn't want to be on the show, he intentionally tried to sink it when he came back.
The guy was brilliant, he put National Lampoon on the map, and the first couple of seasons of SNL, but he hated that show towards the end of his time there. He wanted it to die. I can't find it, but the book on SNL talks about how he wanted to give the show a viking burial on air.
she annoyed me when i was younger but rewatching those clips in recent years i realized shes pretty funny i think i just didnt like her as a kid cuz i thought she was ugly haha maybe cuz im an oldfag now and aint as picky but now im like ehhhh she was kinda cute in her own weird way
It was good in the early 90s until Phil Hartman left. Hasn't been good for about a quarter of a century now.
checked, and what a way to go
I've heard Norm's candid, encrypted opinion on the guy on the right, but he would never allow any hint of an opinion of the one on the left to enter public consumption.
Throw Mama From the Train is a great little comedy, but yeah it's mainly due to Danny Devito and the Goonies lady.
I remember laughing my ass off as a kid to Martin Short dancing
that chick with the retarded voice is kinda cute for a dirty mexican. plus she was apparently super racist on twitter before she got caught so that makes her pretty cool in my book!
Eddie doesn't care about being funny, he's very Zen-like.
i hate her stupid voice
"Name one joke she's ever done"
— Jim Downey on retarded Janeane Garofalo
You forgot the BEST member, Gilbert Gottfried.
I miss Deep Thoughts by Jack Handey
Classic movie. So funny.
He's lighting himself on fire because he'll never do important comedy like her
Laura Kightlinger is a fucking dyke cunt licker Jack Black impersonator who licks Whitney Cummings' burn victim cunt and talks about how much she hates Norm. She ruined Roseanne.
The fact that he's aware of how much she hates him and pretends to not know who she is is Norm wielding his great power against one attempting to wield power against him. The eternal struggle. Femlets can never win.
go to bed Roseanne
It's always been bad. Very weak jokes, terrible skits, and now it shows more than ever how weak their entire team is. It's been almost 5 years of the same tier of content. You'd think that the goodneighboor guys would've helped them out a bit, but they only made things worse. The only reason why it's still on the air is because it's been around for like 30 years.
best cast was the season they had Randy Quaid Joan Cusack Anthony Michael Hall and Robert Downey Jr! YES THAT REALLY HAPPENED !
Jim Downey was the head writer of the show for its entire run, 70s through 2000s, except for a brief period in the 80s when fucking Lorne wasn't there either and also when he was fired with Norm and Frank and the other guy.
SNL dies with Lorne
Al Franken is a fucking rapist
I hope zoomers will get a chance to see 70's SNL because judging from this thread they clearly haven't
You couldn't be more strident
Bonnie Turner
• Sucks dicks for fame
• Direct descendant of Nazis
In the early/mid 90's it was genuinely good. Late 90's to mid 00's it was decent.
Mid 00's it started getting bad, but The Lonely Island's stuff still made it worth watching.
Mid 10's it nosedived into complete shit.
There's still a funny sketch once in a while, but not enough to be worth sitting through the entire show, like 50% of which is commercials and awful music. Even when they have a good band on their shitty sound stage always makes the music sound bad.
>Janeane Garofalo
this scene broke her and she never recovered

Middling
No, Gary Shandling is funny.
Too soon
Simon who is called Peter got royally fucked, had to go to some college for fucking retards while Aunt Becky's kids got the good education.
It was but I remember it being more taped shorts than live. I could be wrong
Post-Sasso
>As actors, its our responsibility to read the newspapers, and then say what we read on television like it's our own opinion.
Yes
Did you see the Kaufman episode of Fridays where Kaufman got Richards to flip the fuck out NIGGERS! style. Always knew he was a dick after that.
not even, it started to get bad way before that. Obviously it's terrible now but really it all started to go to shit quite a while ago, right around the time Tina Fey and all the old members of the cast began to jump ship. Anyway, post all time classics
No more Sopranos parody, the doctah says it's bad for you
Tbf Kauffman was a dick too
Back in they day usenet was still a thing and there were fangirls on alt.tv.snl who absolutely loved Fallon for some reason
I basically blame them for Fallon's career because Rachel Dratch went on Conan one time and said that everyone read the group
Season One was the best.
The MacGruber movie is underrated as fuck.
and Coneheads came out 15 years too late
>not posting the john madden clips
cmon now user
Because he sensed Richards' desire to big dick him and shined him on
>“Oh I smashed my nuts”
>“What a terrible waste of a snack”
>Now we have misgendering
My nugger. I made a thread about underrated funny movies last night and there were people bashing macgruber as though they had never seen it before. Great movie
Not for that exchange. Just sayin, in general. Kauffman was a cunt.
Weekend Update died when Norm got canned, David Spade had the best bit with Hollywood Minute. Quinn did alright, but the show was trash by then.
I noticed I only laugh at the pre-made skits. The santa claus one with Gosling comes to mind as actually really good.
Non of the live stuff is good
SNL used to be how americans would find out about new comedians. Now with the internet most of the jokes are outdated in a week so it lost all purpose.
Christina a cute. CUTE!
Should have talked to him about TM, Bozo
What about Kids in the Hall?
Because Norm, Jim Downey, Frank Caliendo, and some dude would lock themselves in a sunless room ripping butts like some Anton LeVay Satan cult cranking out sick jokes all week long.
Before then it was just some dude heading up a free-for-all one day before air, lazy jokes. If Norm had to shoot, he had to shoot to kill.
second one fuckin sucked.
nobody counts that piece of shit as real mad tv
I never liked that show.
I remember it having diehard cult fans buy i just couldnt like it for whatever reason. I think somebody told me they were all gay once and it kinda turned me sour to it
It was ALWAYS good except from 1980 to 1985 and from 2010 to now.
>hasn't heard about albert fish
weird thing is how that one Kids in the Hall guy joined SNL right after it ended. he used to do those creepy ass 18th century guys with David Keckner
Mark McKinney was the worst Kid in the Hall.
early ferrell crew was pretty good except for that guy chris kattan... i dunno he just always seemed gay to me. he claims hes straight but ive like never seen a guy claim hes straight seem so gay. what can i say, never made me laugh.
young Molly Shannon could get it
hes kinda funny as the autistic manager guy on Superstore. i actually thought he was pretty underrated on KITH but now that i think about it probably would rank him last if i had to do them him order. he was probably the best actor of the bunch but probably the least funny
wow jim breuer... i totally forgot that guy existed. he was hot for a minute in the late 90s with goat boy and half baked, what the hell ever happened to him since then?
holy shit is that tracy morgans actual hair or just one of those weird 90s black guy hats?
He smoked himself back in time
i remember her having great legs
he was one of the better O&A and Stern guys for a while, always had a lot of great Norm SNL stories. i think hes mostly just done stand-up since SNL, didnt seem like he had much interest in being an actor
>but he turned into a family friendly unfunny hack in the 90s
Can't blame the guy. That is where the money is, same reason ice cube also did those kinda movies at one point. I would like though see him host oscars next year or at some point and start doing his 80s stand up.
Hes in some sort of boomer AC/DC cover band.
Speaking of Chris Kattan, im pretty sure the entire cast hated him.
It looks as if this is the thing being joked about here but if you havent seen it Jim Breuer's story about Norm MacDonald and Chris Kattan's SNL argument is one of the greatest things ever.

Chris Kattan gets a bad rap! Gibberish guy was gold!

>4 years
It's at least as good as MacGruber anyway
He seems gay to me
best cast

his norm stories are fucking great
I personally liked Eddie Murphy in SNL.
>Sandler/Spade/Farley/MikeMyers/RobScneider/ChrisRock
What are the combined career earnings for these assholes?
pretty much the only funny black guy in SNL history, and Lorne cant even take credit for him, he was there during the non-Lorne years!
Lorne blew it with Damon Wayans who they tried to hire as the next Eddie during the season Lorne returned but Damon hated working with all those white devils and sabotaged a sketch and was fired mid-season.
Even Chris Rock had a shitty unmemorable run on SNL, he didnt become big until after he left and his stand-up specials became huge.
Nah, he was funny back in his prime but like with everything people chance and his stand up is not same as it used to be. I still watch his specials when ever they come out even if i don't laugh at it.
Oh come on, he makes fun of everyone though just like Eddie Murphy used to in his stand up.
lol thats like a reserve SNL. instead of the 2 token blacks, they got the 2 token whites! i see what u did there wayans bros!
>Keenan Ivory Wayans sets outtto make SNL for black people because black people dont get any attention on SNL
>the one white guy on the show becomes the biggest star and goes on to be the most successful movie star
hes not in the pic (think he joined in one of the later seasons) but i would argue Jamie Foxx is now a bigger star than Carrey is today. tho in his heyday Carrey was like the biggest star in the world
Jamie Foxx might have edged him out as most successful.
I would say they are decent and not awful but they don't make me laugh as much as his older stuff.
Lmfao thanks for sharing

Post more 90s comedy skits you'd be sent to the mind prison just for watching
>/pol/ s a boogeyman
Noooooo wrong.
Eddie Murphy was THE only black comedian to have oroginal race jokes since Richard Pryor. Eveeybody else, including Chappelle does the same old stale bullshit.
Take Eddie's white guy impression.
Every single other black comedians white guy impression is basically just a Ned Flanders impression.
Eddie Murphy is the only one to ever do it different. His white impression the kid was actually mean and an asshole.
of all the skits Mike Myers was a part of, I wonder if he ever thought THAT would be the one he would have to live out in real life.
This style of post seems familiar.
>"Two and a Half Men is too dumb for me and I'm retarded"
lol MAD TV might be the most based show of all time
The comedians was great. Only lasted one season unfortunately
Dana Carvey was probably the funniest cast member in the history of the show, which makes it kinda odd that he had one of the worst careers after leaving the show. he made like 2 movies and then you never heard from him ever again. The Dana Carvey Show in the mid-90s was some more forgotten sketch comedy show kino
yes_____
youtube.com
lol how did MAD TV get away with doing so many sketches making fun of retards?
> It’s only funny when they make fun of the guy I don’t support
Wew
youtube.com
there was no coming back from this
They used the character to shit on the types of people who disingenuously patronize the disabled, rather than just "lol he's retarded"
His appearances on Dennis Miller Live were always great
which is the worst falling from grace of a successful SNL Alum? Jack & Jill, Master of Disguise, The Love Guru, or Holmes & Watson
they just had to write it that way to get away with it. it was just an excuse for mike mcdonald to play a tard, lol i always got a sense he enjoyed making fun of retards a little too much. even stuart was supposed to be kinda tarded
That's my point. That's how they got away with it.
Farrell and Sandler fell from grace WAY before J&J and H&W.
Also, Dickie Roberts for David Spade
Master of Disguise, all those other guys were A-list hollywood comedy movie stars at one point. The best Dana ever did was sidekick to Myers in Waynes World
Dickie Roberts wasnt that bad though.
Danas one attempt as a star flopped hard. i kinda remember thinking this movie wasnt as bad as people said though
this one wasnt that bad either
Did Sandler rip off 50 First Dates from Dana Carvey?
wasnt Clean Slate sort of a detective noir type parody but the comedic twist is he forgets everything every time he falls asleep or something. i kinda forgot it all except the dog with the eye patch
Dana Carvey easily.
Sandler knows what he's doing. He's just in it for quick easy money and owns a film company. He's got cash for days and doesn't give a fuck about quality.
Myers still coasts by on Shrek.
Dana is talented, but all he ever did that was good, was being second fiddle to myers in Wayne's world. He never had a break out role that let him stand on his own.
It gave the world one the greatest movies of all time.
I watched this movie on tbs for like 15 years and thought "this movie is stupid, why do people like it so much?"
Then i saw the unedited version once and thought "oooooh THIS is why people like it. Its a completely different movie than what they show on cable TV
Belushi was way too fucking good for this world.
Grease lightining.
American can only have one black comedian at a time.
Richard Prior, Eddie Murphy, Kat William's, Dave Chapelle, and now its Kevin Hart.
Dana never peaked like the rest though, his is best known for his SNL characters (Garth included). I would say he has the most mediocre career of the top tier SNL talent.
I would say Myers had the biggest fall from grace with the Love Guru, he has not done jack shit since then.
