The Dorne plot was supposed to run all through season 6, Alexander Siddig had been contracted for the whole season only to find out he was getting killed off in one scene in the season premiere when he turned up to the set. Pretty obvious they aborted the plotline when it was so negatively received in season 5, hence the Snakes only appearing at the end of season 6 and having no lines.
Sucks for that group of actors.
