I too love the second one more, user. The fight with Elle is my favorite fight in the whole thing. All that shit with Budd. Even the flashback that ends with that stellar shot backing away from the chapel and revealing Fox Force Five on their way over with guns drawn.
The only parts in part 1 that rival it are the buildup where Sof gets her arm chopped off and when the Bride is de-legging nips to Nobody But Me.

Originally Tarantino wanted him to speak out of synch with a dubbed voice but was convinced by others it would be too over-the-top.
This guy alone is an overdose of kino.
It was the last of the great Tarantino movies. It's my personal favourite (though I very much like his 90's trilogy), mainly because of the ending where she gets her daughter back. That reveal really is one of the best twists of all time, and a spectacular ending.
Everything after this from Tarantino are films that are very well made and have great performances, etc, etc. But they fail on fundamental levels:

Horrible lacklustre ending. There is no redemption, only black-hearted murder of the Nazi's. Which, fine, I get you want to brutally kill Hitler and co and have fun with it. And you want to make sure Christoph Waltz's character is forever known as a nazi...but then what? There was a real opportunity to say something profound in the end but Tarantino seems only interested in continuing a cycle of violence and a victim narrative (Jew Revenge Flick).
Same with Django Unchained (Slave/Black Revenge Flick). Same problems.
Hateful Eight starts with an image of Christ...and ends with the two surviving men hanging Daisy D because "some bitches you gotta hang"...that's how you want to end your movie?
In Reservoir Dogs the notion of truth and loyalty is important. Tim Roth / Mr Orange deciding to tell Mr White the truth about his betrayal makes the story a tragedy. At this there's a point to the final death and the tragedy of it.
In Pulp Fiction, Tarantino's best movie, it is all about taking your sign from God and heeding it. The religious themes in the film are what make it so profound. The final ending where Jules doesn't kill Tim Roth's character and they walk out is one of the best endings of all time, because there's a sense of righteousness and mercy there.
Jackie Brown, for me, is more profound because of Max Cherry, who decides to let Jackie Brown go even though he loves her. Their relationship makes the movie. By choosing to let her go, where everyone else has been trying to manipulate her, we get a sense of melancholy and closure. Though this story is also a muddy tragedy.

it's great from a technical standpoint, the cinematography is gorgeous at times, the editing is nice, the soundtrack good and fits the theme, the scenery and costumes are cool
but there's a few problems
*it is evident that Tino aimed to couch cast Thurman, the whole movie is a silly script written to charm a toddler
*the protoganist is a woman. that wanna kill the father of her baby.... imagine if the genders were reversed...It's just a stupid story that makes little sense
*it's split into two films after it was shot, which makes both halves feel unnecessary and it hurts the pace. while watching them you can't help but think "why isn't this just one movie?".
*its hard for a regular filmaudience to catch the numerous references to odd ball-b/foreign-movies from the 60s/70s
*Thurman doesn't really fit. It's something about her that makes her feel goofy. You don't feel that she has the talent, and to me it's rather evident when one compares her movements to those of Viveca Fox or Lucy Liu
*the end message. as with most tarantino movies, this movie aims just to be a cool story and when you're trying to analyze to understand it, you realize that there's very little to it, there's almost no depth at all, it's a 40 million dollar b-movie. It's just made to be cool.
To me, he sort of both succeded and not. They are cool movies but rather meaningless. They exposed Tarantino for what he really is.

This story has been before and after shitloads of times. The basic "my ex or parent/parents are evil and must be stopped" idea isn't at all new or controversial.

I agree that the plot is pretty dumb but if you can't make sense out of such a simple script your brain must be smoother than a marble.
