Was Michael Jackson really as big in his prime as this documentary portrays?

For me, it was always Speed Demon.

A shame Louis Theroux never got his documentary with him. Would have been kino.
Zachary Williams
Yes. He was bigger than you can imagine. Think of the 5 biggest stars in music today, combine them, and MJ was still bigger than that.
He was loved by all races and all political parties. He transcended every border and barrier and genre.
He made both sexes cry just by his mere presence.
Brody Gonzalez
There were a couple bigger than him, but he was pretty fucking big.
Bentley Morris
how many women do you think he banged?
William Gray
>Hi! I´m a zoomer and proud of being a fag
He was bigger than your shitty pop start of today like lady gaga or your favorite hip-hop fag.
He was on the same leage of Elvis and The Beatles. Nothing as reach the same level of popularty, not even Sinatra.
Ryder Baker
Thats just sales. Michael was on TV and radio all the time, so you didn't necessarily have to buy anything to appreciate him.
Nolan Turner
I had Moonwalker on VHS, it was great.
Hunter King
Billie Jean even though its overplayed
And this even though it's a remix

That list does not reflect MJ's popularity at the time. Remember his peak happened at the start of MTV and he rode that wave all around the world in ways that wasnt available to the Beatles and Elvis. That's one reason why Thriller is the best selling album of all time and there is no close second.
A huge chunk of Beatles sales, btw, happened in the 90s when they had a revival and it was mostly for the music - it wasnt about insane fandom devotion like it was for Michael Jackson.
Austin Brown
I unironically liked Invincible.
Sure it was a little too heavy on the features, but it was a very experimental album for such a mainstream name.
Heartbreaker is still a good track.
Angel Reyes
You have no idea. No other star has come close since
Andrew Nguyen
tons that's to be sure
if by women you mean little boys
Henry Hill
In the end, both were very popular and big.
Jayden King
Billie Jean,Off the Wall, and Dont Stop Till you get Enough are the top 3 and it will stay that way until I die.

I’ve been listening to Human Nature recently and They don’t really care about us
David Nelson
Dirty Diana is undeniably his best
Colton Ramirez
I don't think anyone else will ever be as popular. Maybe Lincoln was as famous in the 1800s.
Listening to Rock with you for the first time with my new $70 headset. Holy fuck it's so good.

Michael could have commanded his fans to overthrow their governments and worship him as the king of the world and the planet would have been overtaken in less than a day.

All his songs are so boring and repetitive, I seriously don't understand all the hype around him.

Parker Miller
When i was a kid I legit thought he was white lol
Nathan Kelly
I thought he wanted to be a woman. I didn't know he was black.
Isaiah James
Smooth Criminal is his only song I really liked (seriously that song is badass) but he's also most certainly a pedophile so it kind of ruins it.
Jaxon Peterson

He was bigger than fucking life bro ,
Jaxson Walker

Are you fucking retarded? That's a marketing tagline. Yeah he was huge, but regurgitating that shit just shows how easy it is for the media to brainwash people.
Hudson Fisher
I'm researching the Jackson mythos cycle. After cross referencing the Sumerian tablets with the Egyptian hieroglyphs I have a question regarding the lore.
Is this accurate...?
>"EO is the embodiment of SHAMONE who used the OW to cleanse the spirit of the AYUWOKI during the year OOH-HOO thus defeating the BEEDIT alliance of WOO at the battle of HOOZBAHD which led to the end of the reign of HEE HEE and the beginning of the era of AAAAAAUUUUGHHH."
Aiden Green
>you will never watch the world premier of the Thriller music video on prime time television
Brody Bell
Lol MJ had such charisma and mystery around him that he commanded complete awe.
It was however a thing of the time, I remember just someone saying Michael Jackson or his video playing caused total magnetic attention pull.
Plastic operations, pedophilia, skin color change, mokeys, neverland, his kids, his marriage...theres so much about MJ that was discussed over time by every strata of all societies around the world. pretty crazy for a pop star
Oliver Martinez
Bigger.
Kayden Reyes
Kevin Ortiz
lol
Isaiah Edwards
I wonder why shit like this is impossible now. Closest thing in recent memory is Bieber I'd say and he never even remotely approached Jackson
Brandon Reyes
>Bieber
You never leave the house huh?
Drake in '16 and '18 was the most inescapable vortex I've ever seen from a mainstream musician
Noah Nelson
>You never leave the house huh?

I know Drake is all over the place but it's not the same imo. Bieber's net worth is twice his btw.

Who’s the millennials’ MJ? Justin Timberlake is not quite up to par even though he had like a dozen bangers too.
Adrian Adams
Yes. Unequivocally. There really hasn't been anyone like him since him so it's easy to see how it's hard to believe. A Michael Jackson stage performance was as big as the Super Bowl.
Jordan Gonzalez
>Madonna
How the hell was someone with almost no good songs so popular?
Gabriel Allen
He was a gay chemically castrated pedo, so probably zero.
Jonathan Ross
It was the image, 80's party girl.
Dylan Lee
>millenials' MJ
That would be MJ, considering millenials are max like 38 years old. Old enough to see MJ in his prime.
James Hernandez
He is overall the greatest entertainer there ever was. He had a huge number of fans in every single country.
Sebastian Lopez
The fact that so many books still name the Beatles as "the greatest or most significant or most influential" rock band ever only tells you how far rock music still is from becoming a serious art. Jazz critics have long recognized that the greatest jazz musicians of all times are Duke Ellington and John Coltrane, who were not the most famous or richest or best sellers of their times, let alone of all times. Classical critics rank the highly controversial Beethoven over classical musicians who were highly popular in courts around Europe. Rock critics are still blinded by commercial success. The Beatles sold more than anyone else (not true, by the way), therefore they must have been the greatest. Jazz critics grow up listening to a lot of jazz music of the past, classical critics grow up listening to a lot of classical music of the past. Rock critics are often totally ignorant of the rock music of the past, they barely know the best sellers. No wonder they will think that the Beatles did anything worthy of being saved
Brandon Green
Jesus Christ. Am I old as fuck or is OP a baby?

I was born 97 MJ was more known for all the pedo allegations when I was a kid then he was for the music. I still remember how big his death was though, the coverage was insane.

Everyone here knows MJ. Only Freddie Mercury from Queen, David Bowie and Elton John can compare to his fame, but he is the most famous black man.

Jeremiah Flores
>Stranger in moscow

Justin Reyes
He was one of the biggest musical stars of the past century. Yes he was that big.
Mason Jackson
This.
Nathaniel Barnes
Mercury and Bowie can't at all fucking compare to MJ, even though they were both admittedly pretty huge.
The only ones reaching the ballpark of MJ are Elvis and the Beatles, but I don't really know how to compare them because technology and distribution were so different in the 80s than the 50s/60s.
Jeremiah Perez
Yes, yes he was OP right up until he released the album “Bad” and everyone realised he’d turned into a freak, he peaked in 1987 and his career and life dramatically fell away afterwards.
Sebastian Hernandez
Eeeeh, I'd say Elvis was bigger because of his movie career, even though he never really left the US.
Juan Edwards
The only low test fellow here is you my friend, M.J earned that title.
John Adams
Yes. He was known for his music and him trying to change his race.
Carson Hernandez
What's the best MJ video?

Thomas Lopez
early/mid 1980's MJ was insanely popular. there is no comparison to anything today. there was also this crazy overlap period in the mid 1980's with Madonna.
MTV made them huge beyond belief.
