Robert and Ned teamed up to crush the rebellion and drive the Greyjoys back to the Iron Islands, and part of the peace terms was that Greyjoy's only surviving son was taken to Winterfell as a ward of the Starks, basically a hostage to ensure his father didn't try another rebellion.

Jon's sword originally belonged to Jeor Mormont, Jorah's father, and was supposed to pass to Jorah before he was banished from Westeros. Since Jorah doesn't have his ancestral sword and Sam is too much of a fat fuck to use the Tarly sword properly, he gave the sword to Jorah to use.

Tyrion's betrayal doesn't really come out of nowhere. He went from a true believer in Daenerys to disenchanted in season 7. The season also lays it on thick that Daenerys would have NO SUCCESSOR in the event that she wins the throne. You know who will have a successor? Cersei Lannister. That's why Tyrion asks Jaime if Cersei is actually pregnant.

In the original draft of season 7, Cersei was supposed to miscarry in the finale. D&D took that out, though. Strange, no? They are really pushing the Aegon red herring, which people will eat up. Meanwhile, Tyrion's suspicious behavior is being ignored.

Meanwhile, winterfell has a bunch of hillbillies who never held a sword and a few protagonists who will save the day
