It wasn't really a debate. Peterson was unprepared and Zizek didn't even bother with the topic. Horrible. Also the moderator was a downgrade from the last official peterson event. Also the livestream comments were embarrassing. It was a room full of shills.

he was prepared for a different debate. it was supposed to be about capitalism vs communism, with zizek arguing for communism. in zizek's opening statement he said he wasn't entirely for communism and that he wasn't going to argue in favor of it in opposition to capitalism which threw peterson off guard because that's what he was prepared for

It wasn't a debate. First Peterson made a fool of himself for a while, then Zizek rambled about random shit like he always does.
The only time they had anything resembling an argument was when Zizek asked Peterson to name neomarxists and he said that Postmodern academics are smuggling marxism in under the guise of rejecting metanarratives. These are elementary takes that anyone who has ever thought about this is aware of.
The entire premise for the debate was fucking dumb anyway because Marxism doesn't have any countries to point to that are anticapitalist. It's just theory. You can speculate that people will be happier in a theoretical communist society but who cares about speculation.
Zizek also doesn't seem to have any opinions on praxis so he is the worst possible Marxist to get for this kind of conversation
