It was real. It was one of those stupid sitcoms that relied on a gimic like that 70's show ( rj berger = kid with a huge dick, 70s show = 70s setting). Then when they realized people actually kind of liked the characters, they completely dropped the gimic and in most cases were slightly hindered by it.
