3 iron duh

Why duh? He's made so many movies why pick his most popular one

Hill of the sparrows 2

Because its really good and you didn't put it up there

Too bad he got metooed

I really liked Moebius.

So did Lars and literally no one cares. He'll be back in two years tops

You guys don't like him?

I like the movies with the rape oh wait that's all of them.
I like the movies with the animal cruelty oh wait that's all of them.

>two years
That's so leathal for a director

Not really dude it took ChangDong Lee 8 years between Poetry and Burning. Not to mention even Blockbuster mavens like Nolan and their haphazard release schedule.

I thought ' Spring summer fall winter and spring' is the most popular one.

3 iron and Isle seems to be good choice too

Yeah Spring Summer etc was a Roger Ebert favorite. But 3 Iron has a pretty big following too. Haven't seen either

>Spring summer fall winter and spring

that's definitely my favorite one. I also liked The Net

You guys know he only graduated middle school and forced to work at factory by his father?

He spent his teenage as a factory worker and then volunteered as noncom officer at marine and served 5years (Not like average Korean solider as military service for 2 years).

After he discharged, he moved to France without nothing and worked as no name painter there. At age of 30, He watched film first in his life and decied to become filmmaker after watching 'The Silence of the Lambs'

I dont know why this is well known internationally. but his life is famous for being extremly dramatic in Korea. And he is well known for having inferiority complex of his poor education background.

I can definitely understand his inferiority complex especially compared to his more refined contemporaries like ChangDong Lee (who was literally the minister of culture in the country). I still think Kim's movies are fun to watch even if the brutality can be tiring.

All of his fellow graduated prestigious university and from rich family.

Park's father is dean of university and graduated 4th best university
.
Bong's father is professor and his grandfather is famous author whose literature is in textbook today. He graduated 2nd university in Korea.

Korean society treat uneducated people really bad. I cant imagine how much he was ignored and insulted when he decided to become filmmaker.

Very interesting, did not know that about either Park or Bong. I think Kim directs circles around both of them so he shouldn't be too worried about his standing in the international film community, but I guess he did get a lot of grief in his homeland. I do think Lee is better.

Tbh, Kim's films were never respected in Korea even before me too movement. Not just Korean audience but also Korean film critics.Korean film critics always have wondered why Kin's film get nominated in European film festival and respected in Europe.

Some of Korean critics said the reason Kim is popular in Europe must be orientalism and a lot of Korean believe it. Literally, His films are disliked both Korean public and critics except few films.

But Lee always have been considered as BEST director in Korea. While park and Bong is more internationally popular, Korea critics always have put LEE as a Top. Park and Bong is considered as great commercial filmmaker who know how to maintain unique style in commercial korean film industry.

Lee is father figure of artist community in Korea who worked as high school teacher, author, most respected arthouse auteur and minister of culture.

Kim's films always have been blamed for misogynic in Korea. His films were controversial and not liked. I think European critics are more open-minded.

It's very interesting that Lee is treated with such reverence while Kim is treated with disdain. They are both very talented and respected internationally for a reason and I don't think orientalism has anything to do with it. Kim just directs a lot of movies and his style is so pleasing despite the ugliness of his stories. Address Unknown is flawless from a design point of view. The only thing about Kim's movies that needs massive overhaul is good scripts, which probably wouldn't be a problem if he was more educated. But I consider him worthy of all his positive attention even though he's made some movies I didn't like
