Why did it suck?

Mostly talking about the final. but yeah it was a tiresome and painful final episode to get through.

OOOOOOOH

are starfleet drone swarms canon now?
are repair droids on the outer hull canon now?

Main character sucked. Usually happens when you try to diversify characters now-a-days. They want someone 'diverse' but are scared to give them character flaws. They don't want the 'strong powerful black woman' to have any cracks in her armor. Usually because they're written by white guys trying not to step on anyone's toes, and diversity hires that don't know how to write to begin with.

This makes her an incredibly unlikable, and drives the entire story down. It's happening left and right. Star Wars, Captain Marvel, comics in general, pretty much anything with 'diverse' lead.

Sucks. Wasn't always this way, but here we are.

Shitty acting by this whoer

Finally though, after 27 episodes, an actual Klingon.

Get out of here grandpa. This a zoomer series.

Michael is literally, Black Panther, Iron Man, Captain Marvel, Dr. Strange, all rolled into one character.

Zoom zooms...

It reeks of Marvel.

I can automatically tell those last two guys aren't gay or dyslexic because if they were they'd be a whizz at "the science" too. This is how the STD universe works.

How racist of you. Klingons have a diverse culture. That's like saying POC are not humans.

Even the worst Orville episode is a lot better than the best STD episode. If STD would be kept at the same brodcasting levels than any other TV show, it eould have been on the chopping block months ago.

theres a lot of bad tos spin offs, and this is generally quite shit, most of the actors are laughable, ive only watched 2 episodes but the stories are great.

>and that's how we saved the galaxy from extinction
>now let's never speak of it again

I literally paused the episode and walked away for 20 or 30 minutes when Saru's sister showed up. That shit made zero sense, not only from a star trek as a whole snese, but even in regards to its own set of continuity. I'm unsure if either the writers are idiots or they think that most of their viewers are. Also unsure as to which is worse.

Can someone give me a rundown on the Short Treks? People in the live thread were talking as if they were relevant

They should send the AI to the heat death of the universe

I turned off the episode when they showed 5 doctors and all of them were black

Attached: disgust.png (399x322, 42K)

One of them was the backstory of how Tilly met Queen Ohsorandumb. One was about the ship Discovery being completely abandoned except for an AI and adrift in the future. One was aboutMudd being Mudd. And one was about how Saru left his planet and joined Starfleet.

Obviously the first and fourth of those are tangentially relevant to the finale. That said, nothing in them was really all that important to the events of the episode/season. If you really want to know more then feel free to watch them. Ironically, the best of them was the future ai one which completely lacks any connection to the show since no of the cast are there and they are pretty much just re-using the sets.

Yeah I did notice that was weird lol

Or just spore drive it to some distant galaxy. The tadpole galaxy is 600,000,000 light years away, even if Control knew where it went and followed at max warp which is equivalent to like 10,000 c it's still going to take 60,000 years to get there and 60,000 years to get back, by which stage we should probably have a solution to fight it.

Hell even if you just took off in any direction at maximum warp what's Control going to do, it's not like it can catch up

How fast is the transwarp drive that Voyager brought from the Delta quadrant?

Wasn't that the slipstream drive, I thought they blew up the transwarp hub?

Never mind, I'm a moron.
It wouldn't be available for Control, Voyager is way after it.
I need more coffee.

Explain everybody's love for the number one character.

big titties, and she likes cheeseburgers

But she's a woman yeah?

If you want true and honest fans, reddit and twitter are the best places.

Reddit because /pol/tards meet reality and are actually downvoted and erased from existence.

Twitter because you can easily see what type of "fan" they are with their history and TL

She's subservient to male characters, hasn't done anything except eat a cheeseburger and have large boobs, and has minimal dialogue.

negrobot

Youtube is worst than Yea Forums because it's for money

She's a woman with good taste and in a position of power. She cant help having big breasts. Thats just how she is. And she deserves love as much as everyone else. And if you disagree then you are a bigot.

Michael Burnham is a woman of great intelligence in a position of power. She can't help being black, that's just how she is. She deserves just as much love as anyone else, and if you disagree you're a bigot.

I thought the end episode solved things in a way that made sense on paper better than many "classic" series episodes.
It's just that nothing, be it acting, casting, writing, or aesthetic created a coherent feel (let alone a star trek feel) to the series, and while the show was going on it never felt like the ending was something the viewer was being prepared for, it would be just another clusterfuck of dull exposition and unearned sentimentalism that was sprung on the viewer.
The ending's logic was decent, it's just I didn't care about all the characters. Basically this was the best way they could answer the problem "how the fuck do we get rid of this fucking mess no one will miss", and while that can be respected it's a sputtering end to a poorly conceived and poorly executed series.

About the only successful part of STD so far was the mirror universe plot, and even then, it was only slightly above mediocre, probably because in the "mirror universe" they have defined characterisations that the characters in-universe had to follow, and they had a concrete goal of surviving and getting the fuck away. It's like they had to write it so that the characters were consciously playing a role in the setting in order to get them to conform to roles at all.

The other main problem is the monotone over-emoting they seemed to think would make the series feel deep and tense, when it just made it shallow and annoying. Few characters had range of emotion, and probably the worst offender was the main character.

reddit spacing.

You just put burnham (muh precious) and number one (filthy bimbo) on the same level. My work here is done.

She was fine as "reasonable admiral who listens to the captain of the protagonist ship", but that role wasn't of any use in the latter half of STD since there wasn't any interaction with anyone outside of STD and section 13

From a consumerist standpoint its a success, they have hit their typical doctor who / supernatural target audience and are now milking these types of people feeding them this trashcan entertainment
They can safely ignore the old core fanbase of the older shows because they have always been a small number relatively to a big hit tv show, Star Trek has never been this popular until now thanks to mainstreaming the medium to today's contemporary style of entertainment.

I'm glad after decades of trying to make it in the western market, Michelle Yeoh is finally finding success. Now she is also gonna be in those Avatar movies too.

She's a dried up fruit

her English isn't good enough tbqh

I love how her english completely breaks apart each time she needs to talk fast.

It is, they specifically told her to play up her accent in Discovery. She sounds much better in Crazy Rich Asians desu ironically enough.

She sounds exactly like she did in the late 90s, saw her in one of those bond movies

This is actually pretty accurate. On Netflix, Discovery is one of the most in-demand shows, and subscriptions it gets for CBS AA helps too since that's pure profit for CBS. Because it broadened its appeal, it is surviving much better than a standard post-TNG show (like Voyager or Enterprise).

Look at the Orville for comparison, which is getting about the same viewership as Enterprise Season 4 did (the season when it got cancelled). That's what the hardcore Star Trek fanbase looks like these days, and why CBS and Paramount keep looking outside of it when they launch new Trek properties.

It somehow manages to get worse with each episode and season. I don't know how they do it.

Ugg you cant love woman on tv show. Must hate woman uggg. Oogaboogaa. Not fit narative uggg

what's its "competition" ?

STD and Orville are both terrible. Just rewatch TOS S1-2 and TNG S3-6 like all the civilized fans.

brain problems, xir?

And considering they are expanding, the money must be ridiculous.

Yes. Thank you for your concern, xadam.

Precisely, it's why I can't understand YouTubers like Midnight's Edge or Nerdrotic, who are constantly feeding information that the show is on the verge of cancellation and everyone involved being fired. It's making some ridiculously filthy lucre for CBS for them to continue expanding and greenlighting spinoffs and animated shows etc. You're allowed to say you hate it all, but that doesn't mean it's reaching a broad audience who are eating it up.

They just want the show cancelled because it isn't pure enough and they know conspiracy theories are popular with a certain crowd right now.

CBS moved STD to Thursdays and released it 30 mins before Orville specifically to compete with it. Still lost.

But since CBS doesnt want to admit defeat, it won the war. Disney has no reason to keep Orville around to prove anything. They have Captain Marvel for that

How did it still lose?

Doubtful, cancellation rumors is actually a great way to attract viewers to your show

Lol marketing people

>"Is Discovery CANCELLED?"
>"Did Anson Mount get FIRED for ASSAULTING a Director?"
>"Is STD not LEGALLY Star Trek?"
>"Is CBS AFRAID of Axanar?"
>"Did Discovery STEAL its ideas?"
>"Did Star Trek get WOKE to spite fans?"

>It is, they specifically told her to play up her accent in Discovery.
What the fuck is wrong with the casting and actor direction in media these days. Honestly between this and star wars it's like they actively want to aggressively miscast roles and play that up as progressivism.
Sorry, libtards, but actors ought to be at least a point and a half more attractive than ordinary people and at the very least should speak English fluently in good cadence.

STD's just full of people who ought not have to been cast and/or were directed to make their bad qualities even worse:
>Michelle Yeoh being made to speak like shitty wok guy
>Gay Doctor #2 having an actual cloying gay voice
>Tilly got fatter between seasons and was written by the same girl who wrote "penguin of doom"
Worst of all was Tilly's dead friend hallucination. No offence to the girl, but she was the ugliest non-deformed actor or actress I've ever seen in a big time production, and her voice was even worse. Like nails on a chalk board, and what really convinced me they were out to deliberately assault the viewer's senses and dare them to say something "-ist" in complaint.
Also, Michael Burnham's actress isn't a good actress and she only had two emotions in the show: angry black woman and resting bitch face. But that could have been an unintentional failure rather than deliberate so I don't count it in the same rank.

Based schizophrenic user who believes people who disagree with him are marketers

Tilly's friend was terrible. I was hoping we would see her get brutally killed. I like what they were doing with the gay doctor, he was the only character that actually had development and an arc this season.

shit ratings. Especially considering the budget. And dont give me that bullshit about it doing great in its opener. That was purely for NFL playoffs. And i call bullshit on all the netflix claims considering their stance after season1.

Orville only has themselves to blame. They had an easy win and blew it with all the Moclan episodes.

Based schizophrenic user who really does think they're out to get him

Thank you. That's mighty kind of you. I wish the same to you.

Gay doctor #2 wasn't badly written or badly acted per se, it's just the "gay voice" is an instant failure in my books. What kind of people can listen to a man who presumably went through puberty talk like that?
I think others must have noticed a recent trend of deliberately casting ugly and annoying voiced people in big productions, and while I can't say I've seen it explicitly stated, I think it has to be a deliberate ideological policy from some nepotistically promoted dweeb in Hollywood who gets off on annoying the viewers by being holier-than-thou about doing what amounts to pic related.

That's because she was running through the corridors of the ship and no one wanted to be in her way because Isaac Newton is the deadliest son of a bitch in space.

You take this shit far too seriously. Maybe a bit of sex will do you some good.

When and why did you think you were getting it?
Were you molested or otherwise sexually engaged at a young age? Did you know any other gays or any with that affected voice?

I think she's not good, but I think the pool of black actresses isn't that wide. Another thing is that, regardless of race, there seems to be a habit of promoting actresses who aren't great actresses to be both prestige names attatched to properties, and almost contradictorily, "workhorses" who get lumped into the same bland roles in iffy productions. Emilia Clarke is probably the biggest example I can think of offhand.
I'm no expert on American culture but it seems to me they wanted specifically an African-American woman for the role, it couldn't have been an African African like Owosekun. She seems like she could be a lot more level-headed and have a wider range of emotion than Green, who you get the sense of as very... high strung.

>I was just pretending to be retarded

She tries, it is the role itself which is pretty thin because they are too afraid to take any risks with her but made her so controversial by being related to two Trek greats. The showrunners wrote her in a corner and she does what she can. I don't blame her for it.

ya nah....she just plain sucks, stop being such a cocksucker

>I am retarded

And there we have it. The capitulation.

>When and why did you think you were getting it?
>Were you molested or otherwise sexually engaged at a young age? Did you know any other gays or any with that affected voice?

yes, I was molested when I was eleven at a gym. I had a religious extended family so I wasn't out until I was seventeen. I was a pure boy that only did things with two people and have been with the last person ever since. And yes, I have heard many but most gay dudes are terrified of sounding "like that" and try their hardest to not let that slip out.

Anyways, here is lesbian Jadzia.

I mean hey get it how you live and all that but still, I find your quest to defend the honor of this show amusing. It's not enough to merely debase someone's opinion/thoughts/etc, you gotta make sure they're publicly shamed too. I wait with bated breath for my next diagnosis from Dr. user.

That is a garbage bridge just from a practical standpoint, how many times have we seen people in the Captain's chair twist more than 90 degrees to talk to someone on a panel

what you say is true. despite that, i liked her.

To be fair, half of Picard's bridge was fucking elevated behind him completely out of eyeline.

Captain picard would have set her straight ( pun intended ). Everybody in STD lacks diciprine. How can they operate a vessel with so many drama queens, teenagers, goofy dykes, neurotics. I'd call for an investigation into starfleet academy.

Voyager is more professional than Discovery and half their crew were fucking terrorists.

That was one of the worst plot elements of the show though. Why go to the trouble of having half the crew be Maquis and then have them completely be fine outside of maybe 3 or 4 episodes where Chakotay is either mind controlled or slightly disagrees with Janeway.

So much fucking GRRRRL POWER and a really underwhelming villian. Turns out the whole reason for the red Angel bullshit was just so they could have an excuse in "canon" for never mentioning Discovery and it's crew ever. That's all it was for and it was painful to get to the very end. As good as people said season 2 was, I don't think it was better than season 1 after the end. Discovery is and will always be shit. SHIT

Attached: 1550548921119.png (731x611, 876K)

I watched a few episodes. I like that they actually did a follow up on Apollo and got the same actor for it. But other than that it's whatever. Axanar is way fucking better

I agree, despite the show having enjoyable elements this season, the entire Red Angel/Control shtick was poorly thought out and executed. Control wasn't really developed as a character in its own right so I nobody really cared about it achieving what it wanted or stopping it as anything other than a "bad guy".

Because they were ex-starfleet?

All the females HAD to come together to save the universe dude. Michael, the admiral, sarus sister, mirror Phillipa, Burnham, Poe, Tilly, Reno, they literally did everything and all the men were injured or indisposed. It was so fucking absurd and forced to shit.

one (1) reason to sit through this clusterfuck

Also now that that's done, let's just say that giving a female protagonist a male name is fucking stupid.

>my side
seems to be short a S. I never stated any opinions of the show, ergo, I reckon that I never chose a "side" but hey I didn't have to because I got one assigned to me by a righteous wo/man who evidently sees things in black and white on racist messageboards. kind of ironic, eh?

Honestly, you figure most people would just let a stupid two word post slip on by into the digital abyss, but evidently you're not "most people." Whether or not that supports any half-baked theories from an obviously stupid broken paranoid racist mind I know not. I just know that tonight I learned I've got a side in the great culture war and for that I am grateful. I think you're wasting your considerable talents slumming around racist cesspools trying to consensus build on a mediocre-at-best really good looking TV show, but hey, I'm the sheep and you're the shepherd so far be it for a fucking amateur like me to suggest directions for pros like you.

(I figure the next move after the mirror-job is to have "someone else" pop up and be like "wow this user is [as hominem]" cuz the whole point of this is a public shaming so.you gotta unleash "the public" on me to show me the consequences =)

Belana was a complete bitch everytime she showed up. They constantly reinforced that she was really struggling to integrate and be a constructive leader.

jesus christ

She can't act worth a fuck.

The Star Trek formula, when it was good, worked because it gave you an ensemble cast of varied and likable characters, all with different strengths, and then introduced scenarios that forced these characters to interact as a team, and gave everyone their chance to shine.
STD focuses on a central character, and she's really boring. Other characters range from meany authority figure set against the main character, to comic relief sidekick, to basically just scenery.

cased fat Riker poster

You should add these Jews
>Robert H. Justman
>Fred Freiberger
>Rick Berman
>Michael Piller
>Ira Steven Behr

>Born to a Jewish family[2] in New York City,[3] Justman was one of the pioneers behind Star Trek, working both as an associate and supervising producer on Star Trek: The Original Series and Star Trek: The Next Generation. He was also the assistant director of the first two Star Trek episodes: "The Cage" and "Where No Man Has Gone Before." During Star Trek: The Original Series, he served as Gene Roddenberry's right-hand man

>Richard Keith "Rick" Berman (born December 25, 1945) is an American television producer. He is best known for his work as the executive producer of several of the Star Trek series: Star Trek: The Next Generation, Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, Star Trek: Voyager and Star Trek: Enterprise, as well as several of the Star Trek theatrical productions, and for ultimately succeeding Gene Roddenberry as head of the Star Trek franchise until the cancellation of Star Trek: Enterprise in 2005.
>During The Next Generation's ultimate season, Berman co-created Star Trek: Deep Space Nine with Michael Piller, marking the first time two Star Trek series ran concurrently.[8] After The Next Generation completed its run, Berman co-created Star Trek: Voyager with Piller and Jeri Taylor. In 2001, he co-created Enterprise (retitled Star Trek: Enterprise in 2003) with Brannon Braga.[9] During this same period, Berman was also lead producer on the four Next Generation feature films: Generations (1994), First Contact (1996), Insurrection (1998), and Nemesis (2002). Berman received both producer and story credit on all four films.

>Ira Steven Behr (born October 23, 1953) is an American television producer and screenwriter, most known for his work on Star Trek, especially Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, on which he served as showrunner and executive producer.
>Behr went on to write a total of 53 episodes of Deep Space Nine, more than any other writer.

>The Star Trek formula, when it was good, worked because it gave you an ensemble cast of varied and likable characters, all with different strengths, and then introduced scenarios that forced these characters to interact as a team, and gave everyone their chance to shine

although that's more of the TNG,ds9, voy, formula. (DS9 was honestly better at it than TNG.)

TOS is more focused on the trio.

thanks

i get that they are not actors but producers and such?

why didn't the admiral just walk away like Pike

Cuz someone had to close the door

she had to close the blast door from the inside.
better question is why didn't they just beam her out

because SOMEONE needs to die, damnit

Well, yes, but at the very least, that's three characters, who all have an essential role in the series.

So the most jewish trek seems to be DS9, which also happens to be a complete subversive dismantling of Roddenberry's vision and something he would have hated had he lived to see it. I'm sure that's just a coincidence though.

>>The whole world liked Star Trek Discovery.

Get lost shill.

Mommy should be a regular cast member.

Attached: startrekdiscovery3457785.jpg (2070x1380, 316K)

Roddenberry's vision was commie propaganda so I'm not sure who I should side with

I's watch the Capt'n Pike and Mommy show. I'll even pay CBS.

showed how his utopia vision was a pipe dream. They way they tried to hold on to the dream as it slipped slowly away was why DS9 was so great.

>So the most jewish trek seems to be DS9
Well yea. The Ferengi were space jews

>I'll even pay CBS.

Rewatch the scene. She/Pike could have easily barrel rolled out of the room

youtube.com/watch?v=m8a5Crc0PQw

Why didn't pike find something to hold the door open for a few seconds?

the most important thing STD season 2 taught us, is the fact the Enterprise and her crew are still the star of the franchise.

Here's the scene

youtube.com/watch?v=SmlV5wXR1Xc

How has Yea Forums not learned yet just to give up on a series, when it's obviously garbage? Why are you so dependant on 'your franchise'? You didn't have to watch it. I have dropped STD after season 1 finale and I already thought it was a chore to watch this trash. Just don't watch it. You don't like it. I get it. You hope to see something as great as you've already seen in Star Trek. You won't with this spin-off. Burry it. Not even burry, trash it.

AHEM FUCK STD

Rebecca is probably glad she somehow landed a star trek role that doesn't require full blue body paint.

much more fun to bitch about it

Let's not forget Leland's battle with the four strong womyinn of feminist frequency.

Considering those two cast, the pike show is a guarantee

Holy shit! Why did she not try to roll underneath it?

>All she had to do was pull a lever
>Somehow the engineers couldn't jury-rig anything that simple to do the job and instead built a fucking time suit

Attached: 1555031808596.gif (344x344, 2.9M)

>niggers in it
>gets praised by a bunch of people that didn't even watch it
shocking development

bitching about something is fun? how? spreading annoyance makes you happier? you piece of shit

And beardless Spock. Considering Discovery is missing 800 years into the future, why not just go ahead with Enterprise.

yeah fair mention, i also ended up liking him, and he really looks the part without the beard

Why did he not crouch under the door and pull the handle, then roll?

Why not use one of those repair droids to do it?

Why not have manual controls on the other side of the door also?

YouTubers make those drama videos for clicks they don't fucking care about telling the truth or the quality of their content. They just shit out a videos long and often enough for them to get paid, and despite claiming to hate Dr. Who/Trek/Marvel, ect they're still promoting their shit by constantly talking about them which is always a win for free advertising. If they really hated the shit they wouldn't talk about it at all but they literally can't help it cuz they know where their food comes from. It's pathetic

Why couldn't i use my ghoul companion to go into the radiation chamber in Fallout 3?

Remember when a phaser used to open and close damaged doors?

Bro it’s okay that this version of Star Trek try’s to ape marvel capehsit, with muh universe ending big bad.

Wrong reply.

/trek/ STD haters are worse, because they do it for free.

It's because you know absolutely no episodes have a self contained decent story. There isn't a single episode of STD you'd want to show a friend or rewatch because it had a good moral lesson or anything like that. It's a show made for binging and it shows, any and all questions are dragged out until the very end. Also STD only has 14 episodes a season so there's no filler or character development specific episodes, there's nothing to grow on or anything or anyone you'd want to learn more about. But I can't really blame Star Trek for that as lots of shows seem to be doing the shorter season binge story thing. It's all fucked

Also had their Star Wars strong woman sacrifice moment.

youtube.com/watch?v=s2hM1tyEL0U

>But I can't really blame Star Trek for that as lots of shows seem to be doing the shorter season binge story thing. It's all fucked

blame battlestar galactica and GOT.

>Start fight where out numbers to shit
>brag that you have drones that make your side better
>enemy out drones the shit out of you
>enemy drones can only be killed by being shot from 2 different directions
>somehow this is achievable while being out numbers
>some how still don't lose
>just as about to lose, 2 random factions just fucking magically show up, even though it took time to fly to where they are and these 2 factions would have needed to know before hand that they were there
>in the middle of a fight, Michael the main target just gets ignored after flying slightly away with zero defence even though the enemy knows she flu there
>A missile hits the enterprise but doesnt explode
>said missile that is capable of destroying 4 decks of the dish can only do said damage is a single door is not fully closes
>Single door with a translucent panel stops a missile detonation doing zero damage
>Control who was super fast and strong only episodes ago is now not that fact or strong and fails to kill 2 women in melee combat
>Control can't break class and gets out muscled by a 50kg~ Asian woman
>Control is neutralised
>Discovery still goes to the future anyways
>Takes Control with them

Honestly the last episode sucked ass and made zero sense

yup

the kelpien showing up was far-fetch.

the klingon showing up to save enterprise is just tradition at this time

>just as about to lose, 2 random factions just fucking magically show up, even though it took time to fly to where they are and these 2 factions

Two random factions, headed by two additional strong women...

>(((white guys)))

Getting some Gowron vibes from this dude

I actually liked him a lot, and it was at that moment I knew he was going to get the Lorca treatment.
