Can anyone *actually* redpill me on Lynch?

Can anyone *actually* redpill me on Lynch?
I saw Blue Velvet last night and it was just... okay
Dennis Hopper's character was really interesting, but the story as a whole didn't really blow me away.
i understand his more well known movies are more bizarre and surreal, but this one is pretty revered, but i just don't see why.
if someone's a big fan of his, i'd like to hear what you have to say

no

Attached: MhKORqP.png (1600x900, 652K)

the thing about lynch is that he more than anyone else has managed to replicate the very logic of dreams with cinema

Go watch The Straight Story

I'LL SEND YOU A LOVE LETTER FUCKER

the other accessible Lynch film is the Elephant Man. if you can't enjoy that he's really not for you.

like i said, i haven't seen his "crazier" movies. Blue Velvet felt really grounded so i think i need to watch Mulholland Dr and others to really get a feel for him
it's on my list

blue velvet wasn't inaccessible or challenging though. it wasn't bad by any means as well.
it just didn't wow me for all the praise i hear

Watch Twin Peaks S1, S2, Fire Walk with me and Twin Peaks The Return. (big commitment, watch movies first, although Twin Peaks I think might be easier to get into at first)
Kino
Watch Eraserhead
Watch Mulholland Drive

are the newer seasons of Twin Peaks worth it?
i did actually plan to watch the first twin peaks seasons to see whats all the hype about.

but im just wondering what it is specifically that people really like Lynch for. some other user said it was the ability to replicate dreams, so perhaps blue velvet wasnt the best to start off with

He sucks get over it

it's how he tells a story, not the stories he tells. it's about tone/atmosphere, so people can't describe it. hence my post earlier about how if you don't get what people like about Elephant man you may as well give up. or then again you could just watch Mulholland Drive and dive in at the other end of the pool, as that does tell a story in a very unusual way.

where do you think he gets his suits done? they look so roomy, he's bound to have a tailor making them like that for him

twin peaks and mulholland drive are way better than blue velvet, which is pretty overrated imo

>Can anyone *actually* redpill me
bend over

Yes season 3 is peak Lynch art
He stored footage for 25 years to use in the return

david byrne's tailor

I'm a huge Lynch fan but blue velvet was never one of my favorites of his. It's pretty low on my list. It is the precurser to his later noir type movies tho so I appreciate it for that.

there's only one new season and yes it's very much worth it.

Mulholland Drive is pure depression kino

this shot brings tears to my eyes every time I see the film

Blue Velvet is not even his best work
watch mulholland drive or lost highway

>Can anyone *actually* redpill me on Lynch?
OFFSCREEN CRIMES OF DAVID LYNCH

>Raped his own daughter just a few days after she was born
>Raped, murdered and raped Jack Nance, in that order
>Leaves a mess after cooking quinoa
>Keeps Madchen Amick locked up in his basement as his personal sex slave
>Raped, tortured and abused Sherilyn Flenn and Sheryl Lee
>Thinks James has always been cool
>Kept Michael J. Anderson trapped in a cage in his L.A. home for two months, feeding him rotten meat and forcing him to drink his own piss
>Encouraged Miguel Ferrer to smoke and then made fun of his throat cancer
>Loves Nine Inch Nails and Rammstein
>Personally dug up Don S. Davis' corpse, decapitated and raped it, just so he could use it for one scene
>Viciously attacked Lara Flynn Boyle with a golf club, leaving her horribly disfigured
>Has provided his voice for several episodes of Family Guy and was a regular cast member of The Cleveland Show

Did you start practicing your transcendental meditation yet, Yea Forums?
it only takes 20 minutes. Do it, you'll be amazed how good you feel. The wisdom and peace hidden within you is waiting to be unveiled.

You should watch Twin Peaks S1&2, Fire Walk With Me, Lost Highway, The Straight Story, Mulholland Drive, Twin Peaks: The Return, The Elephant Man, and Eraserhead.

Blue Velvet is good, but far from his peak. I'd say he peaked with Mulholland Drive or Straight Story in terms of emotion and he peaked with Twin Peaks Season 3 in terms of LYNCHING

i feel like such a pleb but I didn't care much for the straight story

HELLLLLLLOOOOOOO-OOOO

I thought it was comfy but yeah I agree.
I bet when I'm as old as the protagonist I'll watch it again and cry my eyes out.
It seems like old man rediscovers the meaning of life kino. hard to grasp as myself being 25

will we ever get anything as good again?
is s4 even possible?

Attached: frank.jpg (300x274, 18K)

Richard Farnsworth delivers one of the greatest performances ever in that film.

It wasn't as much an old man rediscovering the meaning of life, but rather him being a true man in doing anything possible to visit his dying brother before it is too late, despite them having fallen out.

nil

Luckily Lynch quit smoking and doesn't do drugs so he'll probably be making kino for at least another 10-20 years before he wants to retire.
He's still got it.

thanks for explaining, old man
I'll get it someday

I doubt he will do anything other than paint

In the nearly twenty years since Mulholland Drive, he only made Inland Empire and Twin Peaks S3. He's not super productive.

this is kino

>Can anyone *actually* redpill me on Lynch?
Yes.

He is a good director, yes. If he ever goes ahead and makes a film about what's really on his mind, instead of hiding behind sophomoric humor and the cop-out of 'parody', he may realize the early promise of his Eraserhead. But he likes the box office prizes that go along with his pop satires, so he makes dishonest movies like this one

>In the nearly twenty years since Mulholland Drive
what the fuck where did all this time go

Jaw-dropping review

Ask Naomi Watts' "son".

thats literally eberts review of the film

don't you think he knows that, mongboy?

>Keeps Madchen Amick locked up in his basement as his personal sex slave
>Kept Michael J. Anderson trapped in a cage in his L.A. home for two months, feeding him rotten meat and forcing him to drink his own piss
wtf i love lunch now?

Attached: david lynch smile.webm (500x452, 580K)

huh?

pointing that out for everyone else

>Bow office prizes

I think literally every one of his movies has been a commercial failure except for The Elephant Man and probably Eraserhead.

It is amazing that studios kept giving him money well into the 90s.

>Can anyone *actually* redpill me on Lynch?
yes. he's overrated
hey guys - WEIRD STUFF

actually kinda sucks tbhfam

that last one is an on screen crime retard

Twin peaks season 3 was so good.

>this BITCH-ASS wiener boy doesn't know how cartoons work
OH MY OMG GOD HAHA

really?

Attached: soy.jpg (1600x1168, 205K)

Yeah, and he also filmed a scene with David Bowie right before Bowies death. When it aired on TV it was shocking as it was 2 years after Bowie died.

there was no new bowie footage only unused stuff from fire walk with me don't be a d*ng liar

fuck you retard

lying on the internet is a crime!

All my type a personality seeming friends hate lynch. All my more spiritual, mystical type friends love him. I feel like he’s a very love him or hate him type of director

>Watch movies first
This but not Fire Walk with Me.
Watch the entire Twin Peaks series in release order. Don't skip a goddamned thing.

>type a personality
>spiritual, mystical type

Attached: 1508992276098.jpg (540x311, 34K)

I didn’t know how to articulate it properly, but I have friends that love the type of way Lynch’s shit is basically dreams in movie format with no structure and friends that feel like they just wasted their time and are watching movie equivalent of vomit.

Attached: 50B1ADC6-35EF-4876-AED8-3793FD2CA91D.jpg (500x332, 13K)

does everyone forget that Blue Velvet is his early work? its before Twin peaks even...

>with no structure

>I saw Blue Velvet last night and it was just... okay

You've been filtered out.

Watch it again while high.

this.

Attached: Blue Velvet.gif (554x250, 2.39M)

I was gonna say this

might I suggest the words "chad" and "virgin"? everyone else here uses them.

That's one of my favorite scenes in all of cinema, everything about it is just so unnerving.
The way that actor starts by delivering the lines so stiffly then becomes clearly upset, and that buildup where you know something's going to pop out, but it just keeps teasing for two back and forth shots longer than you expect it to.

>Watch it again while high.
DUDE WEED 420 YOU NEED TO BLAZE TO ENJOY THIS FILM LMAO, THAT MEANS ITS GOOD THE FACT THAT IT CAN'T STAND ON ITS OWN AND YOU NEED TO BE A DEGENERATE AND SMOKE DRUGS MEANS ITS SUPERIOR, THATS WHY THERE ARE FILMS YOU CAN ONLY TRULY APPRECIATE IF YOU SMOKE CRACK

I feel like his fans do a lot of shrooms and read krishnamurti

TO GET RID, OF THIS GOD-AWFUL FEELING

blue velvet is better than mulholland dr

it really is nice

Now watch Mulholland Dr and try to tell me it's not one of the best movies of the 2000's

That scene is great because you're literally told what is going to scare you ahead of time and it's still more frightening than most horror flicks when it actually happens

mulholland drive is overrated, and most people who think it's the best lynch movie are just parroting critic opinion. Still a quality film though

While it's important as a formative work, you can still be of the opinion that his other works are far better.
