>Nerds getting mad that the "science" of their fantasy film isn't consistent
Do people really want relativity theory in a film with lazer swords?

Women and minorities were the worst thing to happen to Star Wars
Sounds like OP got btfo by based Neil
Ironically, Neil got BTFO on this very tweet. Star Wars official account replied to this with an explanation.
Also, this dude is a cringelord. Nerdy black dudes are the fucking worst.
wow i fucking love science
Because if you allow hyperspace ramming to be a thing, the universe just breaks. You've got a setting where FTL starships can be purchased for the relative price of a luxury car. If every single one of those can become a highly destructive bomb that can wipe out entire fleets, your entire setting quickly falls apart.
Strict science isn't needed, basic grounding rules and logic is, otherwise you just get that eye rolling shit like that one prick kids bringing in special moves to rock paper scissors or just claiming immunity when your playing pretend.
Rian Johnson is that one kid.
If you follow this argument all the way through, the inevitable conclusion is that all movies should be Un Chien Andalou.
I don't think anyone cares about the science of the setting, just things that affect logic and sense of scale. It makes no sense for the equivalent of a car bomb to be able to wipe out an army. It makes no sense for a laser light years away in space to be visible from the surface of fifty different planets, through a fucking atmosphere.
>your entire setting quickly falls apart
Considering there's a whole other film being released, seems like the setting is doing quite fine actually
Though, lasers are only visible if they're fired through smoke or fog, because otherwise the thing that's important about lasers is their coherence. The bigger problem with JJ's sad attempts at science fiction is interstellar distance in general: unless the whatevers fired by the bigger Death Star have hyperdrives, they'll be a threat after a few decades or centuries (assuming they're actually lasers and therefore traveling at the speed of light).
Likewise, Star Treks 11 and 12 had characters transported over light years. Enterprise actually had an episode about this, about whether Starfleet would be able to perfect interstellar transporting and therefore mostly do away with starships. Obviously it didn't work out since there are still starships, but it just goes to show how deficient JJ is.
Thats because the writers are fucking incompetent hacks you imbecile.
>Writing so good it makes people cry
Okay, whatever you say
>ad hoc rescue
Do you even know what consistency means, fucktard? Here's an example for you:
>vampire movie
>standard well-known weaknesses - sunlight, silver, holy water/symbols, stake through heart, beheading
>after running from the scary vampires the whole movie, protagonist turns and kicks one in the shin
>it turns to dust
>everyone treats this like it's perfectly normal
Great story, right? Are your expectations sufficiently subverted?
You can release more content all you like, once the setting is broken it is broken. Whatever conflict or problem is presented in Episode IX will have to contend with the Holdo maneuver being a thing that is possible. If they don't hyperspace ram the problem, the main characters are idiots.
I mean that's basically how all those other well-known Vampire weaknesses came about. Just some random concept introduced at the end of the movie. Stake through the heart and garlic are the only ones that date back to actual mythology.
Bullshit. That's not even *all* of the weaknesses from the folklore. Even further, none of them pull it out of their ass with no justification. If they did, they'd get just as much shit as nu-Wars is getting. You should neither excuse nor defend shitty writing.
>hyperspace ramming is this highly risky maneuver only a few exceptionally skilled captains can pull off
There, fixed your universe.
Fake fan detected
You should already know that this is a universe that has already designed "Suicide Robots" as weapons
>Holdo
>exceptionally skilled pilot
>kamikaze only possible by skilled pilots
You are really retarded.
>Luke's ROTJ lightsaber
>blue blade
crystals were swapped
Was it autism?
Scientific understanding requires autism, so yeah
