When we saw Star Trek, the media frenzy had already started. We looked in the papers, and saw the famous (and famous - Star? Trek? What a laugh).
We came to a shocking revelation. That Star Trek's Spock was a fake.
What?
That was Star Trek.
So when the Enterprise showed up, we saw that they were real, and they were real because they had their own version of The Enterprise. It was a shocking revelation when, at the last stand, each of them was wearing a ridiculous, impractical uniform.
The Enterprise had a point, of course. They'd worn what they found to be too tight fitting costumes, but when we showed it to them, they were not surprised.
It made us scared.
We knew that that was a lie, but it was, in truth, obvious, and frankly, there was no doubt in our minds. The Spock costume was made for a man that killed.
To be honest, we were a bit embarrassed. We couldn't believe someone that did that when all we wanted was to go out and kill him.
We were just too scared.
The first day of showing up was awkward at first, but it was only half the truth. We had known that The Enterprise would appear soon, so the shock was a good thing too. We all knew this but we needed to know more.
They seemed to notice. They knew it was their costume.
We knew it was real too.
So we showed it!
It was a real, fake Star Trek costume.
But they were not real.
The way it felt was a bit strange. All of us were terrified, some with tears in their eyes, others with the disappointment that they'd been fooled.
Then one day it happened.
It was a little off-putting really, but we all knew that it was, in fact, a real Star Trek costume.
One part of our mind was going to make a big fuss about it, but then another part of our brain was getting in on the act. Something about the look on their faces made it all worthwhile.
But it was all too much.
It was too big.
It was too big.
We were in shock, but we quickly learned that this wasn't
When I saw Pike and his officers wearing the colorful outfits it gave me hope that things would change but 5 minutes later it was gone again. Even Spock's alright should just shave if he even still has a beard.
good, he was the only other likable character on that show other than Tilly
He did shave in the season finale.
He shaved in the season finale when he resumed his posting on Enterprise.
ugh
Have they already introduced the original enterprise crew into this STD show?
Fucking lame, unoriginal cunts.
>Being mad for the sake of being mad
Not a huge star trek fan,I like TOS and the movies with the TOS cast but what's up with the masochism of watching discovery, seriously? just rewatch the old stuff.
the lazors and pew pew are cool. Also Tilly is THICC
Ok i just got around to watching the last eps.
How is there going to be a season 3? I can't even begin to express my WTFs at that space battle. Ash becomes new head of Section 31...the new recruit? seriously? Then they pretend that Discovery and Michael are secrets? After the ending of season one, how does someone NOT know who either are? And then there's the size of Discovery. Fucking christ. Who needs Constitution class.
Just when i thought it coudln't get more ridiculous
Well tell me then, is it any good? I know it isn't I don't have to watch it to know this.
But who is playing Kirk? Can we get a screenshot of him?
Aren't you sick of all this franchise 'rebooting' being a crutch for a lack of creativity?
I know it was a faux pas to name your show STD but this is looking like literal AIDs.
They aren't pretending she's a secret, they are pretending she died, along with the Discovery.
Nope. They are literally banning any and all mention of Michael and Discovery. Even whispering their names will be considered treason
based schizo poster
They feature the enterprise before Kirk captained it, so we get to see Pike fleshed out, when originally he just had the original ‘Cage’ episode. And he’s the most based character on the show. All the Pike related stuff is great
Anson Mount as Pike carried this season on his back, without him STD will go back to being the melodramatic shit it was.
>This is Starfleet. Get it done.
That line made me moist.
I can get behind that. That's what the fans want.
Just an FYI, Star Trek has had nothing but a downward decline in quality since the Best of Both Worlds cliffhanger.
Wasn’t that reference to Captain Jellico in TNG.
So there was a war they almost lost and blamed on her, then hailed her as a hero of the federation and had her give a "passionate" speech before the assembly. Suddenly it's "shhhhhh she never existed shhhhh no one will remember the few people on Enterprise dont talk about it shhhhh" Fucking christ the writing.
This. They accidentally gave us part of a show we really wanted. In general prequels are trash, but Pike was always the exception. It was a past story most trek fans always wanted more of. They have, in their hands, the chance to make a show that will really get people interested and feeling good about Trek again. Of course they won't. Pike and company will vanish and we'll get more insufferable Burnham. But What Could Have Been was awesome.
It's better this way. It's retarded but better. Just collectively pretend it never happened.
Best of Both Worlds is so fucking overrated
>>STD keep trying to "update" or reinvent Star trek
>>turns out the classic captain + enterprise is still the golden standard.
He should have kept the beard
Why didnt Picard have a drone swarm on his enterprise?
Why didnt voyager have repair droids moving about the hull?
Best of Both Worlds should be viewed as a "What if Riker was the Captain?" episode rather than "The Borg are so fucking powerful and nasty" episode.
It's way better that way.
Why didnt worf mention t'kuvma or voq
Because they were good friends..
why can't they just make a standard trek show continuing the prime timeline? why does it always have to be a prequel, reboot, or retcon with cancer star wars CGI everywhere
Nobody was ever interested in making true trek but they wanted us to think they did.
He might be my first husbando ever. He's very nice, and courageous, and funny, and handsome.
Just a shame that's not gonna last.
Because, initially, nobody had any good different creative ideas to do it. Berman and Braga had done TNG era Star Trek for 21 seasons between TNG-DS9-VOY and the movies, so they wanted to change things up with ENT. Of course, despite the new setting, the show suffered because they were creatively burnt out, and didn't see real improvements until they stepped back.
Then, when JJ came around, it's because they wanted to expand the audience of Trek (since the hardcore fans didn't even stick around to see Enterprise), and the best way to do that is to use its best known characters, Kirk, Spock etc. The alternate timeline idea is kind of genius in that it leaves the original timeline intact, while allowing new fans to come on board for these more crowd-pleasing blockbusters.
Discovery wasn't produced by the same people as the JJ films, but it did have a lot of similar decisions behind it. They wanted it to have a broad appeal and launch CBS AA, and again wanted the crutch of classic characters they could use to hype up the show (Spock, Pike, etc). The prequel setting was also due to the initial pitchwork done by Fuller who wanted an anthology show, with the first season solely focusing on the Klingon war - when he left, this setting became the permanent one.
Once CBS saw the opportunity for a TNG sequel, with interest from Pat Stew, and nostalgia from the general public for TNG on the rise, they had no problem greenlighting it. You have to understand, the reason we're getting Trek at all isn't because CBS love Starfleet's ideals or Trek storytelling, it's $$$. The Orville is being made by someone who loves those things, and it's in serious danger of cancellation because its ratings are tanking. It's a tough business.
The end felt like the Simpsons episode where everyone just agrees to never mention that skinner isn't the real skinner ever again on pain of death or something
Damn, young Captain Pike looked like THAT?!
kino
>Midnight's Edge
have sex
What was even the point of the first two seasons? Nothing of what they came up with made any sense and now they're backtracking like crazy. Why not make a prime timeline series to begin with you fucking retards.
>say that a Trek series trying to ape modern serialized TV would just end up as a clusterfuck mess where the plot goes nowhere
>"oh shut up, this isn't 1987 anymore, get with the times grandpa"
>STD is a clusterfuck mess where the plot goes nowhere
Seriously still shilling your proven liar to push your outrage inceldom?
Good rundown
Pike is great and the show should be about him and the enterprise yes BUT
pikes acting was better and more dominant and 1950's esqu in the first couple of episodes then became watered down as the series went on.
Sorry guys but we loved proper manly pike not milquetoast pike. give us the man who takes charge and needs a whiskey doctor, not the man who plays second fiddle to spock in dominance on his own bridge please.
pretty much this. like others have said the final episode has a return of the uniforms but something is off about them this time. They're not like the impressive ones in the first 2 episodes. I can't put my finger on it but the neck piece looks gay now
okay disney settle down
meanwhile the orville is amazing and apes 1987 and TNG values perfectly.
>throwing old characters at fans to cover for bad writing
>fans like this and honk for more
the orville is great but the network seems to have been hostile to it, changing time slots when it was doing its best because it threatened STD i guess.
well when the show is literally 0 value, adding old characters at least adds value they might like.
Why would FOX care about STD?
What color is the sky in you Zoomers' world?
They'll fuck it up with SJW bullshit and call all the female characters male names
cause they're all linked now. theres not really any competition besides old media and new media. cbs execs pull strings and push buttons and fox execs who dont give a shit about the orville fuck with seth.
they already neutered pike to make him obey his number one (the woman) and bow to micheal and everyone else. This is a man who canonically stated hes not used to having a woman on the same bridge as him on the enterprise, implying (if we consider the rest of canon) that the enterprise has never had female bridge crew in his time serving as captain on it.
How's my girl Michelle? Are they doing anything interesting with her or is she just a one-dimensional villain for Michael Burlamsack to foil?
In reality though the line when it was written actually just meant no women served in starfleet bridges at all till recently. Adjusted for canon though it is likely your explanation is correct.
shes great except one or two episodes where she refused to act and just read the lines like a text to voice generator. (what was with that?)
Her torturing leeland made sense. her getting a female member of starfleet to comment and joke about it and support it was disgustingly non-trek. made me vomit.
btw this pic seems like the jealous gf meme? pike is the gf though? is this deliberate? fucking sjws.
This post is proof of a brain sickness.
Pike is looking at Burnham because he recognizes that she knows something about Georgio that he doesn’t (official Starfleet records state she survived the battle at the binary stars and that the mirror universe does not exist)
STOP REDDITSPACING. Just stop.
Your post looks horrible. Please listen.
It would help if you posted images, gifs, or webms, as well
There’s a lot to this show I dislike but I have to give it props, Season 2 put in a lot of work to damage control a ton of the shows issues.
Getting rid of the holograms on Enterprise, blasting Discovery and it’s spore drive 930 years in the future never to be mentioned again, putting hair back on the Klingons. Clearly someone on the writing staff understands where the show went wrong and is trying to course correct.
The final scene on the Enterprise mimicking the end of a TOS movie felt very good. Actually looking forward to a Season 3 set so absurdly far in the future that they can basically do whatever they want.
The end battle with the Enterprise and Discovery dumping out fleets of small fighter crafts was fucking weird though. Looked cool, very much like the opening scene in Revenge of the Sith. But just confusing and nonsensical in Star Trek.
Not bad though, certainly not the worst first two seasons of a Trek show.
>D'ya like spashe dags?
Lets reason this out for your sake.
>the shows creators and writers have shown they are too stupid to know what they're doing so adding references like this is probably way above them and their incompetence.
True, great point if you wanted to go with this one.
>in advertising and media degrees and circles things exactly like this are taught as tools of social change, which is taught to be a social responsibility. We see this kind of thing in art and media all the time to the point where anyone who has studied media and most who haven't know that EVERYTHING is deliberate. Shot framing, character spacing and positioning, colors, fucking everything is deliberate and contains a message in MOST quality media. (see point 1 again if you think i'm claiming STD is quality though)
This is absolutely true also. Given the first point it could be either way in this case but i'd lean toward the first option. You on the other hand, showed an total lack of understanding of this second fact with your comment.
The issue with Orville is that MacFarlane is forced to make it a comedy show. It’s jarringly out of place because you can tell they are just writing a TNG episode first then adding jokes.
Also he’s just not a leading man and needs to stop casting himself like that.
The Orville with a different Captain and no obligation to be a comedy would be an excellent show. But Fox would never green light a serious science fiction TV show from the creator of Family Guy . Still good, but brought down by poop and pee jokes.
Now that is a shill comment. honestly. wanna tell us which TOS movie its aping? ask your boss quickly for us?
>Tilly is THICC
No she's just fat.
You still think that the SJWs are subliminally referencing Twitter means to try and break down your masculinity
Brain sickness
I love seth as a leading man. he's great and whats the point of making shows if you can't make yourself the lead? he has a great voice, until recently had great looks (a little fat in some episodes this season i noticed) and at very very worst he suits the theme of the show, which is described in that the ship is named "the orville" instead of something dynamic and cool. he's supposed to be the everyman captain, the normal guy.
Honestly love seth in everything he's been in. he's our guy 10000%
better than emo bearded spock wearing all black with fingerless gloves
sounds like you're the one with brain sickness, you just implied that all out of thin air cause i didn't say it. you just assumed a caricature of a person who doesn't exist.
mental. illness. If not then get your mind out of the gutter boy.
>>Star Trek Pike prequel series seems to be confirmed
what
>Being this brainwashed.
>Post on the internet and don't know how you look to everyone
I hope you don't do this to yourself in real life, user.
>keeps trying to shill their absolute garbage show
STD will NEVER be /trek/
It's not but we wish it was. Pike needs to be manly again though like in his first 2 episodes and they wont do that. Besides the actor got fired apparently.
>in final battle both enterprise and discovery dump out what seems to be their entire volumes worth of strikecraft
Where did all of those ships come from, it looked like they would need the entire inside of the ship to hold that many?
>Number One's name is Una
woah...
basically this.
>normal trek threads
great conversation and decently tolerable shitposts usually from namefags who are actually okay
>STD threads
shitfights, because shills come in to call everyone evil gamergaters
I wish I got paid buddy, even worse I’m paying to watch it.
The scene reminded me of the end of Undiscovered Country. “Course heading, Captain?” Also just mimicking the end of every TOS episode by having something whimsical happen, like everyone’s wordless amusement of Spock’s haircut.
Don’t get me wrong, I still dislike most of it. But it’s at least trying to course correct. If Season 3 is about Discovery meeting new life far far in the future and has kind of a Voyager vibe that would be great. It won’t be, it will probably be more overly dramatic garbage that is full of deus ex machina and magic.
But I liked the final bridge scene on the Enterprise. It’s what I want from the show but it never gives me.
I wasnt aware either ships even had "strikecraft"
shuttles sure, but fighters? since when??
Didn’t they show the federation having fighters during the maquis arcs in tng/ds9? Though they were far larger than the STD fightercraft and looked far more like actual fighters that would work irl than glass orbs with big sticks pointing off the side.
yeah fair enough i'd watch it too desu. A voyager vibe and a change of pace would be great.
It seems like they chose to make beardless spock resemble JJ's spock and not nemoy in that final scene. Maybe I'm just picky.
Sure I can believe it happened in DS9 era but this is TOS era, 200 years before DS9.
In TOS the enterprise is just an exploration ship. In TNG i never saw any fighters being launched from the enterprise to attack or defend against enemies either. Seems absurd that they'd take shuttles everyone thats dangerous when there's fighters.
everywhere* man i should sleep. i spend too much time in these threads. love you guys. except CBS and the trannies.
It's chocolate sprinkles in a turd. And they aren't even real chocolate. They're nasty dog chocolate.
yeah but im hungry man.
>muh holograms and hair
The least of the show's problems, really. It's annoying that they can't respect canon, but whatever. Write something good, and I'll forgive it. I've already mentally separated it into non-canon, anyway. I don't care how hard they try to make it "fit" at this point. It's irrelevant.
Are we going to let the ORVILLE beat us? let's show those orville incels what REAL star trek fans who can handle strong women can do! register for cbs all access on mass
how about an episode where burnham isn't the center of the universe?
If they actually want to save it, they should make Saru Captain (he's the best character), and try to do SOMETHING with Burnam to make her less of a charisma vacuum. Maybe even just kill her, or have her captured by bad guys and removed from the show for a season, so they can focus on developing characters that have potential.
All of the attempts to make it fit better in the timeline, and all of the nostalgia bait they dangle in our faces will not make it a good show.
could have been canon they just werent creative enough.
Enterprise (ENT) changed the timeline, there was a borg from the time travel in first contact that could have led to changes in tech available by the TOS (and STD) era.
But more than this, the temporal war in ENT itself changed the timeline. Referencing this shit or even contributing to it by having control send something back to that era (like the hologram man in ENT) in order to make it easier to take over in STD era would have been great and closed the plot of ENT a bit.
pic related also died in the finale? wtf was that. the episode she was introduced in was NAMED AFTER HER TOS COUNTERPART.
Get fucked, redditard.
I'll match you!
too decent to be considered a furry.
The point is, it doesn't actually matter. Fitting better in canon wont make it good. Maybe just embrace the non-canon nature, and use that to the show's advantage. Being freed from canon does have it's benefits.
All of the backpedaling to try to hammer the square peg of STD into the round hole of ST canon feels sad and desperate, and frankly a waste of episode time that could be spent telling good stories.
Nice moving goalposts, samefag.
You mean
>STD threads
people who never watched it constantly crying about "muh feelings" and "not muh trek"
I can't disagree with this. Makes sense.
Not that guy but if "u moved the goalpostss waah" if your whole post and argument here you lost. You sound like a reddit atheist.
>aha! i was about to be defeated by your argument but then i noticed you misspelled a word, checkmate! I guess I win again!
Also I just read it he didn't move any goalposts, fag.
oh we watch it dude. but i like that you assume nobody does cause that's close to true. it's basically just us and half of us pirate it. lowest viewer numbers of any trek show and theorized to be lower than the orville.
Yikes
Corporate lawyers from Paramount, CBS, Viacom, and Bad robot are what cause these conflicts with canon. Just watch any Trek you like and be comfy with us.
Don't worry guys! STD is 'prime timeline' but the prime timeline is legally distinct from the canon timeline, because I heard it from an inside source. In any case, we could have avoided this whole thing if paramount had never sued Axanar. Alec Peters would have made a far superior Star Trek franchise - in fact we should all donate money to make sure Axanar is as good as it could be!
>Burnham to Spock: Find that person that feels farthest from you, and reach for them
I get that the writers wanted to allude to Kirk here through heavy handed unnatural dialogue but it sounds more like she's telling Spock to be best friends with Bones.
that makes sense but only to people who has watched TOS, which the writers have not.
the way it was written in Discovery it seemed like they were going for what the audience learned about those characters after watching the alternate timeline movie trilogy
that would make sense with their beardless spock resembling jj spock but not actual spock.
Man you can't expect them to actually watch it, it's like old and stuff
Executing everyone who likes STD would be a net positive for humanity.
>Maybe just embrace the non-canon nature, and use that to the show's advantage. Being freed from canon does have it's benefits.
I would if the show would at least follow it's own canon of established possible shit that happens in their episodes but seems out of reach in another, or even shit that contradicts itself in the same episode
>why was Control gone after Leland was killed for good.
>why could the nanobots that Control used to control Leland heal his body tissue so quickly and without any scars
>if technology like that was a thing why do people die at all
>on that thought why does Pike become a permanent wheelchair zombie from radiation when Burnham can have disfiguring radiation burns fully healed in the same episode she obtains them
>why didn't they beam Ariam directly into the sickbay after she was blown out of an airlock
>why didn't they beam Admiral from the photon torpedo to save her after she sealed the door
>why was that door right next to that torpedo strong enough to save the ship from an explosion that was supposedly strong enough to tear the ship apart
>if Control wanted the data and the data was permanently tied to the Discovery, why did they not just sit it out and wait for Leland to come for them, he couldn't destroy the ship without destroying the data, so he would also have attempted his genius plan to board the ship all by himself and then Georgiou could still have done her thing
>if not for a cheap way to somehow fit into canon, why was it necessary to agree on never talking about the Discovery and the spore drive in particular, so something like mad Control couldn't happen again, when those are two completely independent technological achievements of the Federation that just happened to cross each others way just by coincidence
>why is Section 31 still a thing after all of this disaster
would have been better if the reason section 31 is so secret in DS9 is because they were disbanded after all this shit.
except they secretly werent disbanded but just kept operating away from starfleet
as the 2009 writer put it
>"McCoy in a way represents for us, or represented for us, the extremes of Kirk and Spock. If Spock is extreme logic, ... extreme science, and Kirk is extreme emotion and intuition, here you have a very colorful doctor, essentially a very humanistic scientist. So he, in a way, is literally and figuratively a representation of two extremes that often served as the glue that held the trio together."
>The alternate timeline idea is kind of genius in that it leaves the original timeline intact, while allowing new fans to come on board for these more crowd-pleasing blockbusters.
But the nature of time travel is also part of canon. If going back into the past creates an alternate universe, how does "Time's Arrow" work? Data would've been sent back to an alternate timeline, so that his head would be left behind in an alternate timeline, and therefore "not there" to be discovered by archaeologists in the original timeline.
And then there's "Relativity."
This is exactly why JJ-Trek and STD aren't working with the actual fanbase, since they don't seem to know anything about Star Trek except some names of characters who've appeared before.
>The actor got fired
Midnight edge is not a valuable source of information, you know that right?
CBS admitted their was an "altercation" on set its not fan fiction you fucking shill. And have a look at Anson Mounts latest interview and the muttering under his breath when asked if he would ever come back to trek.
>any nu-trek series confirmed
they dont even have a series order for section 31, shut the fuck up
Shit show, atleast they had 1 proper looking Klingon in the end tho
CBS confirmed that he accidentally made contact with someone. Stop acting like a fucking woman and spreading gossip, you disgusting queer.
>youtube.com
this is a happy man who loved working on star trek and totally wasn't "contract unrenewaled"
id hardly call that a proper looking klingon
huh did they fix what they did to the klingons?
>47 min
shit aint wasting my time wasting rich fucks speak, give me the summary or fuck off with your gossip bullshit
Did Georgiou go with Discovery into the future? If so, how can she be doing the Section 31 show?
Who fucking cares? It's a dead franchise.
They gave the brand new recruit, Ash, total command of S31. Who needs Georgiou! Arent you excited!
This.
they kinda backpedaled after S1 and made them a bit more klingonish
How do you fix two dicks?
Well, I made the terrible mistake of sitting thru s1 of this shitshow, so pleas dont tell me Im just talking out of my ass.
>Inb4: b-but you need to watch continuously all episodes to judge it!
No I fucking don’t. If a series is shit in every fucking moment and part, then after one season I can make the most prudent course of action and boycott it entirely. It had nothing, not a sliver of hope from start to finish. And Im saying this first and foremost not as a trekkie, but as a learned human being who has a decent taste...
After season 1 they gave them hair again, with the excuse that they shave in times of war (despite them being baldlets before the war even broke out, I dunno).
Looks like they scaled back on the over the top monstrousness too.
