Looks similar to back when people were switching from VHS to DVD.

The transition to DVD was pretty fast from what I remember.

Bluray have been around since 2006 and still get outsold by DVD.

Normies can't tell the difference between DVD and Blu-ray

DVD is cheaper and almost everyhing can run it now. BD is a hassle.

The advantages of DVD weren't just in video quality. VHS was physically bulky, had to be manually rewound, and could degrade over time.

DVD's present a slim form factor that saves space and the concept of a menu with scene selection, special features, and superior audio and video quality made DVD a massive upgrade. So far, Blu-Ray just offers better Audio and Video.

a lot of movies on older film offer no discernable improvement in image quality if you just transfer the image to Blu-ray.

that's why there are so many digital remasters that fuck with the color balance, lightning, and artificially clean up the noise in the image: it's to make the Blue-ray distinct to con people into thinking there're getting a meaningful improvement.

these. DVD is cheaper and a lot of people don't have money to waste on marginally better audio/video

Why wouldn't it be?

Blu-Rays are reddit as fuck, DVDs are much superior

yeah what happened to all the vcds?

Because Blu-ray is way overpriced considering the time it's been on the market.

Yep.
Its insane to me how much more they charge on certain releases for the blu ray versus the dvd.
4K takes the cakes though with motherfuckers wanting $40 for re-releases of old 80's movies.

Exactly, it looks like the physical media industry is trying its best to drive itself into the ground

the most ive spent on a blu ray was $60 and that was to get the LOTR extended trilogy other than that the most ive spent on a blu ray was $10
most the blu rays i buy are like $5 from walmart or dollar general

You're right, it amazes me people are still buying movies when torrents exist

All these poorfags in this thread lmao

Good to, I guess.
I havem't bought a single dvd or spent a single dollar on movies in15 years, suck you fags. Fuck you.

I think the majority of people aren't hung up on video and audio quality like us autists. My mom is a perfect example of this: I download her the absolute shittiest versions of movies and TV shows because they're usually easier and quicker to download and she watches them on her shitty laptop with shitty speakers and has no problem with any of it.

Most people are satisfied with DVD quality. It's hilarious how that HD format war was inevitably pointless, as once DVD is eventually phased out streaming will succeed it

Normies choose to spend their hard earned money on streaming services instead of buying a good visual and audio setup and paying either pirating their media or buying the physical copies.
