I like that her arm sticks out through the back of his skull here. I didn't see that in the movie - maybe it wasn't in that deep.
It helps distinguish characters in a simple way that puts less toll on the animators to remember differences between character models. But it was also a bit of a fad with that was particularly bad with one particular character designer.
