Pick related never directed star wars or MCU movies instead going for less relevant (and sometimes irrelevant) franchises like DC, Blade runner and Dune.
Imagine the prestige they might have had if they got to direct even minor parts of the franchise like Rogue one or Thor.
Thor Ragnarok made less than TDK, actually it made less than TDKR and Aquaman. Blade Runner 2049 won more oscars than the entire MCU >w-what about those welfare oscars black p-panther won LMAO
Brandon Young
Hurr durr brainlet incel.
Carson Collins
I can't imagine anyone thinking this unironically
William Robinson
>Oscars being relevant >Oh but BPs don't count Cringe.
Christopher Jenkins
You've been spamming this thread for the last couple of days. Don't you think it's time you got a life and did something useful
Nolan Lee
Marvel never shell out for top tier directors. They get spineless B-list hacks who will agree to any stupid shit that the studio want to shoehorn in to the movie.
Bet you can't name who directed Captain Marvel without looking it up.
Jack Ortiz
>Yea Forums pedo is afraid of genuine movie discussion Who would've thunk?
Ethan Nelson
"I will destroy both capeshit and starshit" - Denis Villeneuve, 2019
Nolan is literally a household name that can enter Warner Bros studios and get a blank check for any idea he wants, why the fuck would he bother with corporate product shitting garbage
Jaxson Taylor
>AYO GIMME DAT OSCAR >counting Oof
Dylan Reed
Dear dairy, today OP was a faggot
Cameron Thomas
>enter Warner Bros studios and get a blank check for any idea he wants bullshit, that's not how it works.
Ian Martin
They are not le franchise directors you dumbfuck. When Nolan made Batman gilms he just made Batman films he had in mind, no one saw it as a le epic DC ownage, the term "universe" in cinema was not even a thing. Villeneuve didn’t make the BR sequel thinking that he'll make 5 more, he just made the film. Dune is also just a two parter, which he would film both at the same time if he had the chance to, so it's closer to something like LOTR than a "franchise"
Marvel on the other hand makes every one of their assembly line flicks as toys for a collection that you need to have, the directors are completely irrelevant, as if the person watched Black Panther or Captain Marvel gives a single fuck who is the director of said flicks.
Thomas Perez
Well it's a bit of an over generalisation ofcourse, but the fact remains that Nolan is one of the few Hollywood directors who still do passion projects he wants to do personally without anyone interfering whatsoever. He has 100% artistic integrity and works only with absolute creative freedom. The only demands he obeys from the studio is being done before the deadline and under the budget, which he does every single time without exception and why is he so loved by Warner bros. And every single film of his becomes both a financial and critical success no matter the subject with no additional "directors cuts" because his theatrical cut is always the definitive directors cut. No matter what you think of the quality of his films, he makes every film out of passion/desire to make that film, not because some studio exec calculated what should be done. Dunkirk is the perfect example.
He basically has full creative freedom and untouched artistic integrity at a big budget Hollywood blockbuster
Film history nobody will remember anything from the MCU, none of it will have the lasting impact of The Godfather
William Martin
That would be a waste, even Nolan and Villehack are too good for the MCU. They do pretty well with tv yes men directors, let the talented people try to make good movies
Jacob Fisher
Nolan and Villeneuve cannot be as controlled as much as a Tim Schmeckelstein that made whatever two indie shorts
Daniel Flores
He is one of the few active auteurs of the industry but he's a fucking self absorbed wannabe artist. Kudos for him for appeasing the studio but his films are intellectually offensive.
Brody Gray
>intellectually offensive he makes commercial blockbusters, user. You want some pretentious shit to jack off to, watch Refn or Van Sant.
Jordan Brooks
Why is Nolan clicking photos of the actor in the sand?
Oliver Ross
Figuring out the framing and composition of the bombing scene. The DP Hoytema is right beside him.
Joshua Campbell
how do they stick that bigass movie camera down to the actor's face? Why can't nolan just do the angle thing with his smartphone, why use a DSLR?
Camden Martin
based redditor
Julian James
The Dark Knight is what gave Nolan his huge following and he is totally dedicated to Warner Brothers Also, directors dont have a lot to say in the MCU. They have to follow certain rules
Lucas Parker
This guy is based. I wish there were more people with decent opinions on this shit board.
Owen Stewart
Based reddit DC pajeets.
Michael Williams
>as if the person watched Black Panther or Captain Marvel gives a single fuck who is the director of said flicks. imagine being this braindead >there is no difference between the Cap America movies and Black Panther yeah sure, the first Cap movie was really good but the second and third ones were proper kino thanks to the RUSSO BROTHERS
Gabriel James
>imagine being this braindead it's true, and the Russo brothers make JJ Abrams look like David Lean as far as direction goes.
Hunter Wood
>genuine movie discussion why should we discuss with someone who is a brainlet and likes manchildren movies? Most people cant even name the director of rogue one. Nolan can do whatever the want, so why produce garbage movies with shitty dialogue for some retards?
Brandon Davis
It was pretty clear that BP only won Oscars because of all the racial bullshit. Let's all be honest, it didn't deserve a single Oscar except for maybe the one for costumes
Landon Fisher
Batman is the most popular superhero, holy shit get a clue you fucking idiot
Zachary Bailey
why would they want to direct a film where they are not allowed to control the story, characters, or tone?
Ryder Reed
They have too much talent to direct the MCU or star wars You need to be a maleable talentless hack to get a place in Disney
Isaiah Clark
20 years from now, people will still remember the Nolan Batman movies. No one is going to remember any of the marvel movies, except for maybe the first iron Man and maybe infinity wars parts 1 and 2.
Jaxon Kelly
Zero people think this
Michael Peterson
>but his films are intellectually offensive he's our generation's Hitchcock, he gives pulp the integrity OP's capeshit will never have
Samuel Garcia
Russos have proven themselves, their movies are a mile ahead of other capeshit trash Iron Man movies suck, 1 is watchable at best Thor movies are trash Cap 1 was decent but 2 and 3 were total kino thanks to the Russos this cannot be denied.
David Reed
>Denis Villeneuve The problem is that he's not a commercial/blockbuster director. I loved Blade Runner 2049 but it was closer to an art film than a blockbuster. As a director you can't just except audiences to pay attention you have to grab their attention and keep it and if you do that you can tell complicated stories and sell it to a mainstream audience. Nolan knows how to do that (look at Inception) and Villeneuve. I think Villeneuve is a better director, but Nolan is a better commercial director.
Grayson Myers
>can't just except audiences to pay attention *expect
>Nolan knows how to do that (look at Inception) and Villeneuve doesn't.
BR2049 was a boring mess, and this is from one who thoroughly enjoyed Phantom Thread.
Jace Gomez
>murder mystery kino >outer space kino >2deep4u mental shenanigans kino >capeshit kino >old timey magicians kino >WW2 kino > name one other mainstream director with so much variety.
Andrew Perez
I don't understand trolling like this.
Andrew Richardson
Any decent director regrets working selling their soul a “franchise” regardless. Businessmen sell film as a toy line now. Filmmakers are no longer in charge of making movies.
