bonus points for a jewish or gay people in a closet sub-plot. the war has been over for 80 years and the victors are STILL propagandizing their victory like they've got something to hide.

I think it will be more like him believing what he believes and not succumbing to the pressure. It will also show Christian values and power of love. I doubt that Malick is interested in some kind of political message.
