She is pretty, but not too pretty to alienate female viewers who relate to her or use her as self insert character. Too pretty actress is turn off for female audiences in general as they may get jealous. Too good locking actresses only sell tickets in films that are targeting male audiences. She is chick flick star for most parts. When it comes to acting talent she is far from the worst. Only thing the studios will care about is how much money she brings in from the box office.

There are plenty of similar actresses from the past. Most notable are probably Julia Roberts and Jodie Foster. Another current examples would be captain fungus and Dakota Johnson.

Her career was launched by X-Men and The Hunger Games. Since these movies were part of existing successful franchises, they were going to rake in money and fans no matter what.
