My family is from E. European and this is one of their favorite movies. The political satire completely escapes almost all of them. The main reason we love it is because it reminds us of a lot of aspects of "the old country" including a lot of actual people we knew. I've found this sentiment in other people from the former USSR.

The only part that didn't age well is that we all got tired of the same jokes after rewatching it/hearing it quoted so many times. It's still a great comedy
