Because it's actually pretty decent. I mean when I first heard about it I thought it sounded gimmicky as hell, but it actually does a good job at balancing Johnny Lawrence's character, portraying him sympathetically while still making it clear that he is an asshole most of the time. Also, while it can be pretty cheesy at times, it's cheesy in a good way. It feels true to the original movies. Compared to my expectations going in, I thought they did a damn good job.
