Are Disney afraid of introducing new lightsabers or something?

They introduced Kylo's crucifix.

They are in full panic damage control mode.

The Last Jedi was Rian Johnson and Kathleen Kennedy going full “FUCK LUKE SKYWALKER! KILL HIS LEGACY! KILL THE PAST! REEEEE!”. And it backfired.

Now Lucasfilm is going all in with the nostalgia pandering.
>Look! It’s Anakin/Luke’s Lightsaber! Member that?!
>Look! We put Skywalker in the title! And look! Luke’s voice! We totally don’t hate Luke Skywalker and aren’t trying to erase him, sheeple!

It all just damage control.

They're just retconning episode 8

and 6

They pretty much have to, so much of the framework of Star Wars was trashed in the last movie that they're scrambling to assemble the last movie out of whatever scraps are left.

And everyone laughed at it.
oof.
Imagine their embarrassment. Even Episode I had people gasping at Darth Maul's double blade.

Whats up with lightsabers in the Sequels anyway? They treat Anakins as some sorta mythical weapon, even though in the OT it was just a regular light saber and Luke creating his own showed his growth

JJ has no idea what is going on.

>That double bladed lightsaber looks so impractical
>Someone could just cut through the middle haha

It will make a great MacGuffin in a future episode.

Why introduce new lightsabers?

Why mess with a classic?

Ep 7 was made by an idiot that liked starwars but didn't understand it

Ep 8 was made by an idiot that hated starwars and it's fans and jacks off trolling, intending to upset people who liked starwars.

Why would I ever watch another sad movie from Disney again unless they retcon 7 8 and 9 and apologize?

They need to burn the copies of the soiquels, destroy all evidence they ever existed in merchandise, ban them from ever being mentioned or referenced by anyone in an official capacity and fire everyone at Lucasfilm who was involved in writing or directing them.

ep 1
>Double edged Lightsaber
ep 2
>Dooku's curved hilt
>Yoda's small lightsaber
>Windu's purple blade
ep 3
>Grievous using 4 sabers at once
ep 4
>Introduction of the Lightsaber for the audience
>Vader's Lightsaber has a blade adjustment
ep 5
>Nothing new
ep 6
>Luke's green saber
ep 7
>Kylo's unstable crossguard
ep 8
>Nothing new
ep 9
>Nothing new (so far)

Nostalgia

It is especially funny considering Anakin kept losing/breaking his lightsaber in AofC.

I didn't even watch the trailer. These movies are trash and have been since 1999.

JJ's probably got a hard-on for Anakin's saber, which is too bad since the destruction of the saber - much like when Luke lost it - was a good reason to push Rey into making her own, and, assuming Luke (and maybe other ghosts) have been teaching her in the way of the Jedi, completion of your own lightsaber is part of the training.

But who knows, maybe she'll find new kyber crystals somewhere, maybe even from the wreck of that Death Star, and she'll make one later on in the film.

I want to say it's because the actors wouldn't have the physicality that someone like Ray Park had to make his double bladed lightsaber fights more visually interesting or any other type of lightsaber that would require more sophisticated training or choreography but they also had Rey using a staff in ep 7 so I don't know.

The most plausible explanation is that they need to shove as much iconic star wars imagery as much as possible and they can't get too derivative.

>blade adjustment
Wait, what? How did I miss that?

The greatest acts accomplished with that lightsaber:
-slaughtering the younglings
-Anakin losing to Obi-Wan
-Luke losing to Darth Vader

The raw unflinching truth of this summary is depressingly accurate

I thought it was a bit much at first but grew to lake it.

>They are in full panic damage control mode.
THIS!!
>TLJ SW Celebration: The Force Is Female T-Shirts
>E9 SW Celebration: The Force Is For Everyone T-Shirts

>Fan outrage over TLJ debasement of Luke
>Title of E9 namechecks Skywalker (PLEASE COME BACK GUYZ!)

>Teaser shows Lando
>Ruin killed mah Snoke, who else can we get?
>Brings back Emperor

MOST TELLING THING NOT MENTIONED AT STAR WARS CELEBRATION:
>NO Announcement of Hasbro license extension which is currently set to expire in 2020.

Licensees are scarred, and the big dog Hasbro is waiting to see before giving more money to Disney for the SW&Disney tax.

>Are Disney afraid
Yes, the execs are very risk averse. Nobody is willing to stick their neck out.

Absolutely spot-on.

>The Rise Of Skywalker

So, already confirmed to be a rehash of Return Of The Jedi.

The OT was about the Rise of Skywalker, with ROTJ having him come full circle.

My interpretation of the title "Rise of Skywalker" is that they are going to take what they did with Luke in TLJ, do a 180, and over-compensate, turning him into some weird Christ-like figure. Luke Skywalker is not a complicated character. It really should not be so difficult to write stories for him, but somehow Disney just can't do it.

>Luke Skywalker is not a complicated character. It really should not be so difficult to write stories for him, but somehow Disney just can't do it.

thats because the stories 'aren't' for him anymore, they're for rey, and luke skywalker is a prop for her story, which they also cant write cause shes a non-character amry sue played by an absolute boring plank / FOREHEAD

>Ep 8 was made by an idiot that hated starwars and it's fans and jacks off trolling, intending to upset people who liked starwars.
You know, if that round headed retard actually had a shred of talent, this could be the best fucking thing ever.
A giant budget beloved franchise production sabotaged to make some proper artistic trolling.
But he fucked even properly fucking it up.
What an absolute disappointment.

EU. Wasn't in the movie.

They're going to straight up bring him back from the dead. I'm certain of it.
