Because the first one they build of that design was named the USS Constitution.

I don't understand why you guys care so much for this character. What makes her so much more interesting than other side characters?

currently watching TOS for the first time, it kind of sucks. Spok is the only interesting character and the best duo is spok and bones and then spok and kirk. All the other characters don't seem to get much development and feel too cartoony. It's like ENT all over again except there is no bigger story with a big enemy to distract you from the boring characters. Some of the endings are also kind of weird, like peopled die and then it ends stupid and bones points out how stupid it is and kirk just tells a joke and they all laugh.

>like peopled die and then it ends stupid and bones points out how stupid it is and kirk just tells a joke and they all laugh
This is the quintessence of TOS, if you don't like it then the show is not for you.

Pol and capeshitter tourists who think Yea Forums is where you go to force memes instead of having really intense anr serious discussions about a subject and having the humour naturally arise.

For example: how did they dispose of poop on the enterprise? Was there a central waste collection system where they jettisoned the feces into space or reclamated it somehow, or did people just shit crap into an empty box and it was teleported away? Is soap a thing, or did they just pass their poopy hands underneath a laser of some kind that seared the fecal matter away? And do uniforms seal in a fart, or is it breezy enough to let gas pass?

>the enterprise?
Which one, there's been a bunch. There's little canon discussion to lend, save the waste processing mention in ENT, the extraction work done by Rom in DS9 and the commode seen in the Enterprise A brig in Final Frontier.

Who are you?

>tourists who think Yea Forums is where you go to force memes instead of having really intense anr serious discussions about a subject and having the humour naturally arise.

you're describing reddit, newfag

You mean star wars

How come normies always feel daunted by how much Star Trek there is out there (ohmygawd there's too many spinoffs and movies!), but they're perfectly fine with binge watching 500 episodes of whatever garbage show they like?

Trek is the lame autistic show and a pretty damn absurd one at that. Very few of the characters are obviously relatable so you have to spend at least a season getting to know them before you even start to like them. It's an abstract series that most people think of as nerdy and weird and instead of taking the time to understand it they write it off as garbage and go back to what they're comfortable with.
New experiences challenge our perception of the world and Trek asks people to continually broaden their horizons, something the average viewer doesn't want to think about when they're watching television.

I'm really sad Anons. Tonight's the final episode of Disco, and we're not going to have another one until Season 3. I'm gonna miss trying to figure out who the red angel is (I still have no idea who it is; my bet is Ariam), I'm gonna miss Tilly and her enthusiasm, and of course Michael and her struggles to prove what is right in the universe.

Spock can be annoying at times (why does he have to call out Michael on everything? I swear he's got something against her), and Pike is a little too boring and stuffy. Hopefully we'll get more Georghiu ass-kicking in the final episode.

Don't know what I'll do to get my Trek fix from now on...all the other series seem so boring because they don't have continuous storylines or cool special fx. The Picard series looks like it'll be awesome though...finally they're fixing him and he won't be so preachy (I tried watching TNG but nothing happens in it). If the rumors are true about him being part of Section 31, all the better! That's the most interesting part of Star Trek anyway.

Can't wait to see the costume and sets for Picard though...if they keep doing what they're doing, it's going to be awesome. No more cardboard sets or boring carpeting.

Anyone else with this feel?

Attached: Sad.jpg (480x360, 13K)

On some occasions if the first ship of the class is sunk the next one in the production line is referred to as the lead ship. IIRC NX-01 was being decommissioned at the end of ENT so the same could apply.

Nah, it's almost beat for beat Die Hard

Aren't you sad too? I mean, we have to go a year at least until we have more mysteries and adventure! Trek hasn't been more fun.

What I'll really miss though is Vulcan; it feels like home, like a second Pandora. Lush forests, beautiful still lakes...really the kind of planet I'd like to live on. No wonder Michael was so sad to say goodbye to Amanda and Sarek, even if he was kind of a terrible father when you think about it.

The really sad thing to me though is that Culver and Stamets didn't get back together again. I really liked them as a couple...it was nice to finally see sexual diversity without any shame or borders. Now they've killed that...I don't know, seems like a bad idea. Maybe the writers will make Reno pick up the relationship ball...who knows. She's awesome too...it's stupid that they haven't used her at all this season. She adds so much life to every scene she's in, it's a crime she wasn't in more of it.

You know what was better though about this season? We got to learn more about Owoshokun; it's obvious her character has a lot to say and do, and it seems like they finally gave her some leeway to flourish as a character. Detmer too; just the right amount of screentime showing the bridge officers being friends when they're off-duty.

Now that Pike is gone, they should really make Michael captain. She's earned it, and she does the job far better than Saru anyway. It's obvious that she has the respect of the officers too, after all, she is always smarter than Pike and she always has the answer that is the right one. If she's that much better, then it's her turn to be Captain now....it's obvious.

Anyway, still sad....

But just imagine how Michael must have felt to have been ordered to kill one of her best friends on the ship? That's a really hard thing to do; they served years together, and went through countless emotional ups and downs...you can't just kill a friend like that, not matter what the cost. Like Michael said at the end of Season 1, you can't give up the best of who you are or else you're not Starfleet. That's why she couldn't do it, and why the sly security officer had to do it instead.

C'mon user, you know it's heartfelt. The people on Reddit only pretend to like this series and its characters because it's the trendy thing to do right now. Given how popular this show is, it's like saying to someone on the street that you 'hate Game of Thrones' or something like that. Can you imagine the reaction? GOT has only gotten better with each season, and Disco is the same way; it gets better, and more popular with each episode, so if you're on Reddit you kinda have to like it or else you might be thought of as weird or lonely, like one of those incels we keep hearing about.

I may be stepping out on a limb here, but the writing on both shows has gotten significantly better since the early episodes. GOT is now really cool, and characters who were downtrodden for so long finally get to take command and show what a better world they can build. Same with Disco; we no longer have to see Tilly trying to learn, but now she actively does things that always help in significant ways. Same with Michael; she's no longer the person who no one but Lorca wanted on board...she's actually someone who even has the support of an Admiral (!).

She doesn't have capacity to make difficult decisions. Airiam was dead anyway.

Is that VF?

I figured your post was a Yea Forums tier >le old sci-fi films are kino post so I'll expand
Planet of the Apes (1968) is the gold standard of sci-fi as it was among the first to show the hubris of man in the nuclear age and had one of the greatest twists in the history of cinema up to that time
The 1954 version of 20,000 leagues under the sea added a much larger budget to the classic jules verne novel and provided much better acting with Kirk Douglas and Peter Lorre to give the novel justice, plus it adapted the "bad" ending for the protagonists

Translation
>I felt threatened by your selection, so I'm trying to turn this into a pissing contest to prove who le superior film buff
You're a damned retard. Absolutely pathetic.

But they at least had to try to save Ariam; after all, Kirk saved Spock, risking his life and career in order to do so. This is the same case; Ariam had at least the same influence and affect if not more on her crew than Spock did on his, so just because Spock would have believed the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few (or the one) doesn't mean it's correct. Spock learns the value of this later on after Kirk saves him.

It's been shown countless times on Disco that Michael has a far more developed sense of empathy than Spock, and remember how Sarek brought Michael to live at their home precisely to teach Spock empathy, which he was deficient in?

I don't mean this as a criticism, but you need to pay closer attention to the details in this show user; they're very clear to show that Spock has a lot to learn from Michael, and since Sarek chose to apologise to her at their goodbye in last week's episode, it's clear that even he had a lot to learn from Michael. It's nice to see these Vulcans accept the better judgement of a human for a change...their smug superior attitude just doesn't compare with the compassion that Michael shows, not only to them, but to everyone she encounters.

Attached: My Hero.png (589x448, 117K)

When do the new STD episodes usually appear on Netflix?
I'm not sure if I wanna stay up or not.

Calm down bud, I said I was wrong. I'm just saying it's odd that your selection was all before the 1970s and had nothing current like Ex Machina or Annihilation.

Should be at 8 or 9 EST, but I think it's dependent on the country and service etc. Can't wait, but I'll still be sad to see it go. Who do you think is the Red Angel? (Please don't say Michael...I'm sick of hearing that conspiracy theory...)

You're not fooling anyone, imbecile. Stop dragging down the quality of the thread because of your own insecurities.

I still stick to my point that that particular moment was not the time to show compassion.
It maybe my autism, but I would have thrown Burnham out next for that.

So an hour or two from now, eh? Thanks, think I'll wait till tomorrow.
I don't think it can be anyone but Michael at this point, unless the mother un-died

Because the journey is so good! When we see what happens to his crew-mates who can also speak, the whole cultural zeitgeist of how they kill the one black man who can speak for his people! It's just so on point for a 60s movie about the future! And how in the end it was nuclear technology that killed man and drove him back to the caves I don't see how you could not appreciate that fact. It is such a product of its time and so much more

Are y'all watching the season finale of Star Trek™: Discovery®?
Remember to watch it on CBS® All Access™!

just watch all the tv shows and movies besides jj's trek and STD

planet of the apes sucks
used to see ads for it next to star trek magazines and hated it for taking up space that could have been spent on star trek

Star Trek is for plebs, discuss.

If I was in the US I'd buy Starlog backissues on eBay, but S&H kills me, even using a courier service to consolidate packages.

>people stop posting because they hate getting replies from you
Anyone who stops posting because they might get insulted shouldn't be on Yea Forums in the first place desu

Not him, but you've been dragging on this off topic shitposting for over an hour now. Yes, it kills threads.

I can't help it, I'm a sensitive soul. I fall in love with posters here and it pains me when they fight.

This is him, honestly one chain of replies shouldn't kill a trek thread and if it does that just shows how little discussion was actually ongoing.

The reveal kills the rewatch value of the first one, my favorite is still Conquest of the Planet of the Apes.

Two men who survived biological weapon apocalypse has wiped out mankind against the horrors of feminism, female sexuality and trapped in city sized underground bunker. It all started pre-war in cryogenic suspension experiment going wrong by bureaucratic mistake.

GET your posts off ME you DAMN DIRTY SHITPOSTER

Yeah don't give them (you)s just make a post giving them attention every time they post, that'll show them what's what and save the thread for sure.

Regardless do you like it or not personally first two Planet of Apes movies were good films. Enough thought provoking content and entertaining on top of that.

Sure, they are good movies. I like them quite a lot. But is also a true statement.

I miss denobulans

Bones > EMH > Phlox > Bashir > Pulaski > Crusher

I unironcially agree with this

Everybody knows Chef is the best character in the whole franchise

t. thinks planet of the apes and disney 20,000 leagues are top shelf sci fi films

I haven't because it's always been really hard to find and expensive and I'm not sure I'm ready for Terry Gilliam. How is Don Quixote?

Quit STD last season. Should I still stay away or are they headed in a good direction

Should probably wait til it's over so the mads and shills won't influence your experience. You're not missing much.

Nope. Do you actually think that men started writing Kirk/Spock slashfic?

Attached: 19b8e5e4cfccf5214750edf7ba512bad--star-trek-spock.jpg (624x700, 72K)

Ok Mary Sue we get it

>Do you actually think that men started writing Kirk/Spock slashfic?
Yes.

You know, I watched Plato's Stepchildren the other night. I decided to give it another try because I honestly watched it maybe twice ever, and a long time ago at that. So I go to season 3, move past the tholian web, consider watching that instead because it's a baller-ass episode, and instead follow through on Plato's Stepchildren. Holy fucking shit I forgot just how absolutely retarded this episode was. The scary thing is it's not even the most ridiculous of season 3, but it's gotta be one of the worst. I mean, The Savage Curtain and Whom Gods Destroy are so bad they're entertaining and I've watched them plenty of times, but this episode is so fucking cringy I could barely get through it.

Attached: jesus_christ_bill.gif (327x251, 679K)

You know for a moment I thought you were the guy who posts fake TOS episodes like Jupiter's Locket.

It's bad, yes. But not Spock's Brain bad.

There's a girl who works at an indy video store I rent a couple movies from every once in a while and she's always watching Star Trek movies on the store TVs. I keep wanting to say hi and ask her about Star Trek but she always seems busy and angry.

Attached: images.png (290x174, 7K)

Tell her she's normie trash for not focusing on DS9's Dominion War Arc.

I fucking wish that episode was a fake one.
The plot is pretty thin and stupid but you're probably right. Spock's brain is one of the dumbest episodes of the entire series.

>It is commonly believed that current slash fanfiction originated within the Star Trek: The Original Series fan fiction fandom, with "Kirk/Spock" stories – generally authored by female fans of the series – first appearing in the early 1970s.[1][4]

Not only the entire series, but possibly the entire of Star Trek. Having Spock march around like that and McCoy controlling him with a remote is just preposterously dumb.

Honestly the timing makes sense, with utopian idealism being pushed in the late 60s and 70s, plus the archetypes of the brash captain and stoic first officer engaging in these activities below deck. unf. tumblr could learn a thing or two of where they came from

Why are women always writing filthy fan fiction? Are they all working for the CIA?

just say hi and ask her what her favorite Star Trek is

Attached: qemp.jpg (400x306, 43K)

I'd say modern day tumblrinas are internet incarnation of that with difference that they are too scared to do LDS or to go to the conventions like 60's and 70's precursors.

Yes but the part with McCoy coked up on alien knowledge was kino
>tfw a CHILD could do it..A CHILD

hmmm spooky if true

Spock's Brain is the epitome of Star Trek. It is Trek exemplified, distilled down to its purest essence.

>lmao I just remembered how to do advanced alien brain surgery I can hook these synapses together no p

The ice age

this post made me smile

One minor difference would be that instead of standing for free speech at UC Berkeley, they would be opposing free speech at UC Berkeley.... or at least support the opposition of free speech with twitter #hashtag or if they couldn't tweet, they would try to re-tweet or at least like it on twitter.

It is strange time we live in. It is almost like freedom is slavery and truth is a lie.

I still have a huge boner for Balance of Terror and The City on the Edge of Forever

You might need to tone down the glow a bit.
The truth is out there.
Those are my favorite two episodes of TOS.

I have gazed upon your eyes and I knew you was my nigga

is STD good yet?

Man, he'd have been good at that.

Wait why is the man cosplaying as Kirk but the woman is cosplaying as Fiona?

I think she has dressed as an Orion OC.

STD will never be good.

No

>Balance of Terror
Legendary submarine warfare.

It's so good!

just fuck my lunch up

ToS had an interesting way of being largely made of stories that were clearly written elsewhere and then adapted to include the trek cast. I imagine that episode was pulled from a ww2 journal.

hows it going lads

Attached: tng logo.jpg (960x1440, 203K)

Those are two of my top 5 which also includes A Taste of Armageddon, Journey to Babel, and Mirror, Mirror in no particular order.

Top notch highest quality pure undiluted Star Trek. It's excellent.

>Taste of Armageddon
Frighteningly relevant to today's world.

jesus christ thirty years from now someone will be posting about how that's their waifu and someone else will be posting some alien crewman so horrific we can't even imagine what it will look like
this is the cycle we're all part of
trek will never be cute again

>Mirror, Mirror
haha that was a great one! I love what they did to Sulu, and how South Park made fun of it all those years later.

Kind of bummed and feeling a little lost lately, to be honest. But coming here is how I weather the storm so I'm glad I get to be here with all of you talking about Star Trek and stuff.

Unpopular opinion:

The Trouble with Tribbles was a massively overrated episode of TOS. It wasn't bad by any means, but it wasn't among the absolute best.

>Unpopular opinion:
That's like saying hating ewoks is an unpopular opinion

proper STD thread proper STD thread

Those are 2 great ones. Wolf in the Fold, Errand of Mercy. The Devil in the Dark...

Pike has been carrying this season on his back when he goes, back to the shitter

>proper STD thread
Cool thanks for segregating the undesirables, I’ll stay in the proper Trek thread.

I just finished VOY and im in rage. The ending is absolute trash.
im glad seven got some injun dick, but the ending is trash.

The whole series war pretty disappointing. The ingredients to be good were there, but they just did nothing with it.

yeah, Seven was a great add to the series, and there are really good moments, but in general, is not as good as TNG or DS9

the perfect ending it would be at least 2 episodes roaming thru the alfa quadrant in the aftermath of the dominion war and one last episode as epilogue.
Another thing.
>Alfa quadrant: patrician
>Gamma quadrant: interesting
>Delta quadrant: Nigger tier
>Beta quadrant:???
what info we have from that area?

>I just finished VOY and im in rage. The ending is absolute trash.
Like all other Treks Voyager has its brilliant episodes. Lowest lows of it are without parallel in other shows.
>im glad seven got some injun dick, but the ending is trash.
Literally the worst possible relationship, but Injun demanded more stuff to do in the show. Doctor or even Harry Kim would have been better matched with her autismo.
ENT, TOS, TNG and DS9 are all over Alpha and Beta quadrants. It is so Earth centric that Earth is on the division line.

Whenever I see Return of the Jedi I think of Star Trek. Sure, the Empire couldn't give two shits about cultural contamination, but it's appalling that Princess Leia, seemingly intelligent person just starts living with these indigenous creatures. Only C3P0 seems to have the slightest inkling towards a Prime Directive mentality with his inability to state that he is a god.

>control wasn't the borg in the end

I'm pretty sure they collect the waste and decompiled its mass and turned it back into "raw" replicator matter. Sewage systems wouldn't even a be a thing in a setting with replicators. At most you have a way to get it out of sight before its turned back into "raw" matter with a backup tank in case the replicator fails.

Matter is broken down to basic chemical compounds, which is later used by the replicator to constitute other forms of matter. However, it takes energy to both dematerialize the matter into basic compounds and then to materialize as replicated material.

It was kino episode.
