The narrative is that it flopped and was completely mediocre.

I worship the original trilogy, think the 'new trilogy' (1-3) mostly sucked with a few exceptions, and Episode 7 was barely just okay. I skipped Rogue One and Solo. Won her a $200 prize it was so good. And even if girls want to show some skin, it doesn't necessarily have to be so sexualized. I've seen shirtless, muscle-bound, greasy guys playing Goku, Duke Nukem, and Conan all the time. If someone put real effort and time and talent and painstaking work into getting a costume just right, the make-up, the accessrie, the poses, etc. all just right and authentic to the character, I don't think they're pining for attention. I think it's because they really love the character and want to go to a safe environment where they can geek out about their fandom with others.
