On one hand, it'll lead to more people seeing it on a wide scale since the VHS/DVD's/BD's are out of print in the states. On the other, I was hoping for a traditional anime company to pick it up, because I don't know if Netflix makes physical release copies. I was hoping for a new Bluray set.

It amazes me how casual as fuck new anime fans can be. They literally won't watch anything unless it's easily streamed. Can't be assed to track down an IRC download link, a torrent, or even used DVD's. I used to pay a dude to copy an entire anime series on two VHS tapes for me, and I had almost anything I could get my hands on in the mid 90s.

In any case, I can already see the ((media)) spazzing over Kaiji forcing himself on Misato in the elevator, having conniption fits over Asuka's mental rape episode, drooling and shipping Kowaru x Shinji like fresh Fujioshi's, and missing the point about Shinji's mental escapism entirely to paint it as "toxic masculinity".

Oh yes, and the shit storm they'll have about the strangling theme.

In between all that, we'll have the young and fresh minds trying out the series who might get mentally destroyed by it like some of us were as kids. Personally, I'm happy to finally see it. When I first started asking around about where to start, I was told to see a movie, then another movie, then the original run, then the original run plus some fucking edit, then this, then that, and I didn't even know what the fuck I was supposed to watch because there were apparently umpteen different re-recordings/reinterpretations of the fucking show.

So I'll watch this new Netflix dub and hopefully enjoy it. I'm a casual anime fan and this seems like one of those always-mentioned animes that I've wanted to check out for a while. Currently watching Space Dandy and it's the tits.

Both of which are coming to Netflix. Technically, the Eva movies were supposed to happen during the events of Episode 25 and 26, but they ran out of budget during the show's run. So keep that in mind while watching.

Now, as for the Eva Rebuilds (1.11, 2.22, 3.33, ect) those are now technically in sequel territory/Anno's fanfiction, so disregard until after you watched the original TV series and movie.

but shit's simple. it's tv run first. then if you want to watch the end of eva, you go watch the director's cut version of ep 21-22, and then go blind with the movie. the other ones that people mention you are recaps with extra scenes, and said extra scenes are in the director's cut version of said episodes. and even then, you can simply skip the rewatching of those episodes and jump straight to the movie once you finish the tv series.
the general gist is that the tv ending and the movie are like two different routes of a game (the director literally described it like that)

Midway through Evangelion's TV run, SEGA (yes, the video game company) that was helping produce cut Gainax's budget for the show. It led to the actual planned ending of the series having to be scrapped due to budget constraints.

The show first was largely unsuccessful during it's first run, and the WILDY successful in it's second showing. After that and the merchandise explosion, the director got the green light/funding to make the End Of Eva/Death & Rebirth films to finish off the series.

the end of evangelion was released like 2-3 years after the series, death and rebirth are just recap movies released months before to refresh people's memories. they added some scenes that helped with the background story of some characters and to attract the people who already saw the anime at that point, and those scenes were later added to the tv run's episodes as the director cut version of those episodes

Neon Genesis Evanglion and then The End of Evangelion, make sure to watch the directors cut versions of ep 21 - 24

They decided to re-dub the entire thing, and probably didn't ask back the original cast. So that's casting + studio time + ADR for all 26 episodes + a Theatrical two part film + making sure it doesn't bump into any other big Netflix releases, or competitors stuff.

Hardcoding subs isn't even that hard. Toss it into Handbrake and set up a queue. Takes 5 minutes, and when I wake up it'll be done.
I can also watch anime that will never get put on Netflix, like the Monogatari series, the original HxH anime, the JoJo's OVAs, the original Devilman OVAs, Sunred (AKA OPM before OPM (and better)), etc.
There's literally no benefit to having Netflix, especially if you watch anime.

I'm more concerned about the Cowboy Bebop travesty they're set to release. The best thing about the series is it has soul. It's not particularly deep but it has a lot of style. Netflix will destroy that

It isn't hard for anyone. If you just have one subfile and one language file, you can literally just open the folder in handbrake, and choose a destination folder, then keep clicked "Add to Queue". Let it run over night and you're done.
It is far simpler than writing down all your banking information, your phone number, your name and all that shit, then waiting months for it to come out.
Also, the only good shit on Netflix is the stuff I already have.
