What does Yea Forums think of this movie? Why was this smashed by critics? Why didn't it become a success?
Atlantis:The Lost Empire

inb4 weebs thinks it's a rip off because they don't know about the various myths
It was mediocre to be honest. I don't uderstand its cult followers.
Also it did not succeed becuase it was a typical action adenture rahter than the usual Disney drivel and no animated movie can succeed unless it follows their established formula.
Jean and Milo look the exact fucking same. It was ripped off of Nadia. Thought the movie was alright. Better than that pile of shit Treasure Planet that a bunch of morons keep trying to pass off as good.
Underrated animated masterpiece
Plebs will never understand
LLike this one
Treasure Planet is kino faggotfaggot
You are too dumb to understand it
Sounds like it was more of a pleb filter.
The movie is good. I'd say I enjoyed it more than Treause Planet
It was bland. The story, the cast, the setting, everything the movie had to offer had been done to death by other movies of the preceding decade. Even doing the usual Disney musical formula would have been a fresher experience than this at the time it came out.
There is a bajillion of adventure movies just like this one. Why pick the most generic and forgettable option? Some sort of nostalgia?
KIDA IS HOT
GIVE CHOCO ATLANTEAN GF
I understood it just fine. It was boring and the 2D/3D animation clashing looked like ass. I’m convinced that anyone who likes it is a zoomer who just missed the boomer line. The only great Disney movie from that era was The Emperor’s New Groove.
Kida would get it.
It them better. This movie is a masterpiece.
>boomer
>emperor's new groove
>good
Kys faggot
Boomer here,I think all these films are good:
>Atlantis The Lost Empire
>Emperor's new groove
>Lilo and Stitch
This movie is for autistic cargo short wearing faggots who played by themselves at indoor recess. We literally used to pick on a nerdy 4 eyed shrimp who brought in the toy ship for show and tell. He seriously talked about how Milo was his hero. Fucking queers.
Most of Disney’s films have always been shit. At least it was funny and had consistent animation. Also the only good Disney renaissance movie was Mulan.
>Atlantis didn’t rip off Nadia
>cut marks on her arm
Dropped.
>cutting scars
It was adventure movie but animated. No shitty songs and other garbage usual Disney stuff. Pleb likes well-known formats, this movie was nothing like. Plus kinda brutal for what it is.
This movie is great,Kida is the best part. Remake when? Who should play Kida?
Burgers didn't give a shit about Gainax until Evangelion came out.
It has an annoying shit comic relief character.
Maybe if you are a braindead disney fanboy you may enjoyed since it seems it was meant for that audience
THE ONLY RIGHT ANSWEAR
Not really, it did nothing better than, say, Stargate. While I was very excited about Disney trying something new and maybe even aiming at a different audience, Atlantis was so by the numbers it was painful. You want to make an adventure movie in the vein of the contemporary live action fad? Fine. But you'll be compared to them and will be judged by the same standards. And it came too late, and did nothing new.
Love it,better than Treasure Planet(which got better reviews but I just hate it)
Sofia Boutella
This
Action adventure is a well-known format. Too well-known.
>whitoid
>play a black woman character
DROPPED
>Reeeeee, why is this movie following the movie format!!!!
>why does this mpvie always have a hero and a bad guy!!!! Reeeeee
>why does this movie always have a love interest!!!! Reeeeee
You complain about things that are just classical storytelling. Kys
based movie
Atlantis is a masterpiece in comparation with any animated disney film released in the last decade
It was an adventure movie that did nothing original, but animated. Is that enough for you? For hell's sake, Titan A.E. been out a year before Atlantis, so Disney didn't exactly break any new ground with the "mature for what it is" thing either. It was an all-around "meh" experience.
This is not a high bar.
Me in the back
>muh original shit
Tell me a good action adventure original film
COPE
>Sofia
>white
>Kida
>black
Huh?
Me in the front
* ahem *
hmmm..
THAT WASNT PART OF THE PLAN
Plans change.
>Kida
>not black
Are you stoopid?
plebs
DROPPED
CAST TIKA SUMPTER AS KIDA
Here's your Kida bro
She looks more mixed than black. Kinda hard to define her ethnicity tho.
>muh original shit
>Tell me a good action adventure original film
Finally you are starting to get it. It's a genre done to death, and it won't suddenly become any less done to death just because it's animated. But at least some effort to set it apart from the others would have been appreciated. Even just some tiny effort.
Her father looks like the usual black guy,get a mixed black girl then
Not much darker than Milo, and he was fucking pale. The movie is pretty dark anyway. I think she could be something like polynesian people.
She looks black(light skinned) an actress like Thandie Newtwon or Zazzie Bets are good for they skin color
Why are you fucking OBSESSED by ethnicity.
She is brown, she can be whatever race that aren't WHITE because she isnt WHITE.
This,she is brown(black)
very light black skinned if so. it kinda doesn't make sense since she was deep below and there was no sun ray in reach
Holy shit,you are dumb. Go back to / p o l /
Kida was hot
First boner tho
It came out after Evangelion.
>Kinda hard to define her ethnicity tho.
that's because they mixed a bunch of features since the atlanteans are implied to be some sort of pre-historic original humans
Lilo and Stitch was solid too but I agree that Groove was kino
Atlantis was in production since 1996, starting off as a Journey to the Center of the Earth movie before they chose to focus on Atlantis as an end goal.
The directors wanted to do an "Adventureland movie" because they were tired of doing "Fantasyland movies" like Hunchback of Notre Dame and Beauty and the Beast before it.
>Fantasyland movies
>Hunchback of Notre Dame
I'm sorry, what?
The real animated adventure kino. You are a quality man and the only person in this thread I respect.
Hot,can we find a black chick with these features? I think we can
This was one of my favorite movie's when I was younger. I rewatched it a few months ago, and even though I still enjoy it, I chalk up my affection for the film more to nostalgia than quality.
I think it's got an interesting enough art style; the characters, while one-dimensional, have a fun dynamic; and the first half of the movie, from the museum to the sub--which is a kino setpiece--to where they're digging for Atlantis, is actually pretty enjoyable if you're just watching for fun with not a whole lot of expectations.
Ironically, the movie totally grinds to a halt once they actually GET to Atlantis. Even as a kid I usually clocked out by the time they were crossing the bridge over the lava flow. It's not like there isn't some cool stuff going on in the second half, it just drags quite a bit, especially because the first half of the movie kept up such a breakneck pace.
For a Disney film, I'd say it's one of their better ones, or at least more interesting than most.
Fantasyland's sort of the catchall "European literature and folklore" land. Also, talking Gargoyles aren't real.
The character designs wouldn't have been finalised until well after both Nadia and Evangelion came out.
Edgy garbage
That's kind of reaching, especially since Journey to the Center of the Earth is French and the concept of Atlantis Greek, but fine. However
>1992: Aladdin
>1994: The Lion King
>1995: Pocahontas
>1997: Hercules
>1998: Mulan
>1999: Tarzan, Fantasia 2000
>2000: Dinosaur, The Emperor's New Groove
it wasn't really the era of generic mainland European tales.
I want to like it more than I actually do, the concepts are really cool but remain underutilized because they focus on a way too large cast and the film has a very uneven pacing.
If only we would get more dieselpunk media with magitech and white-haired brown qts
Black chicks are god send user
Kini
*gets blowed up*
Underwater TIE Fighter
How is it edgy?
Unfortunate.
I'm still not sure if the leviathan was a piloted machine or not.
He was talking about those specific directors, who were behind beauty and the beast and hunchback of notre dame
I'm going to say no
I used to watch it all the time, but the nog Atlanteans always bothered me. I always headcanoned them as Italians/Greeks in features. The movie would've been much better if that were the case, and Milo fell in love with a qt ginger princess. Apart from that, Elsa was one of my first "damn, I wanna fuck that" crushes, and I loved all the sci-fi stuff. Years later I discovered Treasure Planet, and it dethroned it because I loved the space pirates angle.
if it was why wouldn't the crew return to Atlantis?
The real question is what the atlanteans were fighting when they nuked themselves
Oh, of course. Thanks for the correction, I'm fucking retarded.
I always fucking loved the subs and the leviathan
I really liked the psone game.
pre-diluvian babylon I guess
don't know what you're talking about but it's obviously inspired by Stargate which isn't even that bad of a thing
loved the concept, but the execution was utter garbage
ENG was legitimately great
>NERDS WEAR GLASSES
>be kid
>be "the smart guy"
>all smart guys/nerds in my cartoons/vidya/comics had glasses
>"boy, I sure hope I get myopia and have to wear glasses like The Doctor!"
>years pass and actually have to wear glasses at High School
Fuck you God, why did you have to do me like that? I can't wait for getting LASIK in a couple of years. Shit's messing up my whole face.
Why did they have to turn him into a shitty villain? I really liked him until that part
this is a fantastic assessment
my only fond memories of this movie are while they're digging
well you only need glasses because you need to read, and reading is for nerds (and counter-revolutionaries)
t. Pol Pot
>What does Yea Forums think of this movie?
I think it was great.
>Why was this smashed by critics?
Who gives a shit?
I watch movies, not critics.
>Why didn't it become a success?
I don't give a shit.
exactly what happened to me
I got lasik though, and now I have a permanent "floatie" dead center in my left eye
might drive me crazy enough to kms within the next few years
>perhaps most unique disney animated feature
>forgettable
Truly a pleb filter
Love it. Great sense of adventure, danger, fun moments, knowledge about a new civilization...
Also the princess and the blonde soldier are top tier.
He was fun as a villain I'd say
Post sexy Nadia
Damn user, I'm sorry. I'm not getting it done for a year or so at least. I'm 22 this July, and wanna wait till 23 or so at the very earliest. But how bad is it? What's a "dead center" exactly?
Fucking this
Also it had the best Atlantis imagining along with Indiana Jones and The Fate of Atlantis
>Titan A.E.
Was something about space?
Alzheimer's is kicking in again
They're mad because it's actually better than their weebshit.
like center of my vision
it goes away when it's dark, but any amount of light beyond "one lamp in a medium sized room" makes it show up
>that fucking awful Buttrock soundtrack
Meh
I believe the only two animated film/series that feel like Star Wars are
>Nausicaa of The Valley of The Wind
>Avatar The Last Airbender
I also feel like Alita Battle Angel is very Star Wars like because it had a big world and a great hero's journey
Damn, she is so sexy the 2D
This
How the hell was a blue sky literally inside an underground cave
Loved the massive amount of effort it (like creating a new language). And it was Jim Varney's last role.
>smashed by critics
Because the faggot kikes (look up the reviewers, nothing but faggots and kikes) thought that all Disney movies need to be bright, colorful musicals. If they expect musicals, and don't get them, they chimp out. Especially if the movie has darker tones, like this. I don't know why fags and jews both love musicals so much.
>capitalism is evil
Another reason why I hate this fucking movie.
more like murdering people for personal monetary gain is evil. I can admit that his heel-turn was a bit force though, just another example of how messy the script is
Liled the scene where they dove underwater to explore ruins. Any other movie, anime or manga with this type of scene?
Huh. Must suck a bit, but come on, it's not worth kys over.
frequently I feel like scratching out my own eye over it
Dope and based. Slight occult references too.
Quartz tech is real
Just wear contacts faggot.
Oh. That sucks.
I wear far too many skincare products to be able to handle contacts. I need this done permanently.
TO A PLACEEEE WHERRRE BLIND MENNN SEEEE
shes a NA indian with aryan blood too
he was pals with Hitler ya know. Where do you think he got that aryan tit cow from?
It is set pre WWI you dumb nigger
If you're not a native English speaker "dead center" is just an expression, it means directly in the middle of something
He was going to sell it to the Kaiser and make $$$
