It's not really capeshit. The supes in The Boys are basically rockstars. Acting like stereotypical rockstars. Fucking groupies, killing hookers for fun, taking drugs, fucking each other, the occasional rape and other degeneracy. None of those guys are "paragons of humanity" and those have a streak of that personality trait lose it pretty fucking quickly. And The Boys are basically the guys that are supposed to keep them in line and to be able to do that, to go toe-to-toe with "people" that can flatten buildings with a cumshot(not joking) they shoot up themselves with a taste of the juice that makes supes supes. Written by Garth Ennis so 90% of the more edgy shit from the comics will not make it into the series because we're literally talking about the leader of the supes troupe, Homelander, eating babies for fun and skullfucking hookers, on camera, recorded by The Boys, for blackmailing purposes.

Not quite.
Homelander is the first test tube superhuman made after WWII and is meant to be Mr All American Hero. The people that made him were aware he could turn on them so one of the several ways they decided to deal with him if he went rogue was they later created a clone of him who has been super-brainwashed to be loyal and pre-programmed to kill Homelander if Homelander ever does anything bad.
That guy is Black Noir.
What happens is that Black Noir eventually goes crazy from not being able to follow his brain conditioning and killing Homelander so he fakes Homelander doing lots of fucked up shit (because he's a clone of him) that draws the attention of The Boys. Over the long drama with The Boys the Homelander eventually thinks he's had a psychotic break and did all the things they accuse him of, realises he has nothing stopping him doing all the sick shit he's always wanted to, and decides to go Man of Murder, thus giving Black Noir what he wanted. Noir ends up killing Homelander.

Give the comic a read and you'll know what i mean. It's not a must read and you can't ever unsee simon pegg in it but i can't imagine that they will adapt it faithfully.
Not because all the edgyness and gore, but the underlying themes.

The Karl Urban character(Butcher) in the comics is a 6ft3 build-fat mountain of meat.

I have read the boys a long time ago, its just too gritty to adapt to a movie for all ages.
