Based on the recent moves from Toho (investing in an American subsidiary, something they haven't done since '54) the movie will perform decent, which means Toho and Legendary will expand their contract allowing for a full MCU.

After a long time collecting them I now have all Godzilla movies and other science fiction made by Toho (and Legendary). All in original Japanese versions (aside from Latitude Zero that was actually recorded in English. It's a pain to find some of these. I still haven't embedded the subtitles on some of them. In case you want to do the same you won't have problems with Godzilla but some were impossibly difficult to find. Especially King Kong Escapes, Varan, Dogora and Matango that I found by absolute miracle in a last ditch effort. Unless you don't care about not having original soundtrack (and usually watching a slightly abridged version). Torrents.io is probably the best source for them nowadays. I know people ask that from time to time.

It's entertaining, but only as a binge-watch. That's not to say that it's not bad; you'll probably like it enough. I just think it was a bit hollow. Definitely more style over substance and the animation style takes some getting used to. It's not gonna blow you away, though.

"Good but not great" usually means "uh, well then..." for the studios. It means hype is dying and that while they'll make money back, it won't be as much as they planned. For a movie with this budget, that is rather disappointing. Not crushing, but worthy of a frowny face followed by a shrug.

I really want it to do well, but if it doesn't it's okay too. 4 Monsterverse movies will be okay with me. Before I found out Legendary would renew with Toho if the movies did good, I wasn't expecting it to continue after GvK anyway. We honestly are getting spoiled with KotM in terms of quality, never in my life did I expect to see Mothra, Rodan and King Ghidora on the big screen with Ifukabe themes, even if it doesn't continue I'm glad I lived in a timeline where this happened.

It's very low nad unrealistic. The entire income may be less than what the most optimistic predictions are suggesting but the interest is considerable. The budget is also higher so the margin may be similar. The only competition is Aladdin. It's gonna be tough because one better trailer and people ate it up. The target audience may be slightly different but we shouldn't expect these movies to be around too long if we're afraid of any fairy tale that comes out at roughly the same time. Neither is a billion dollar movie.

I put up a Godzilla figure on my desk at work a few weeks ago and it's generating more interest than I thought. I've talked with a handful of clients about the movie so far as well. Also I said it earlier but when I went to go watch Shazam, my entire theatre seemed awestruck at the trailer, with people saying to the person beside them "we need to see this". It'll do good, it has easily two of the best trailers of the last 10 months or so.

It looks amazing on the big screen. Hopefully the trailer plays well. They didn’t have it before the Hellboy movie which I though was weird.

What I've heard is that the studio (Disney, WB, etc.) can mandate that certain trailers be shown with a movie but that the theater company can show other trailers in addition
I think with IMAX individual theaters may have some say, because with the five minutes of footage before Shazam a few theaters evidently didn't show it, some theaters only showed it on the weekend of it's release, while others (like the one I go to) were showing it all through the next week
But the current rumor is that some sort of deal is being struck to show the Wondercon/Shazam footage ahead of Endgame IMAX showings (so far in England and Germany, my guess is that will increase)

Not really. In that movie Godzilla went into a “burning” state after a uranium deposit on his island blew up, overloading him with nuclear energy and causing his internal nuclear biology to go into meltdown, which eventually results in his death.
In KoTM Mothra is killed by Ghidorah as she tries to protect an unconscious Godzilla. Her ashes, apparently infused with her own sort of internal nuclear energy, land on Godzilla, overloading his already fully-charged system and causing him to go into burning mode. He doesn’t die, however, as he is able to regulate his internal energy enough to release the excess as nuclear pulses which melt Ghidorah’s body faster than he can regenerate. He finally releases all his excess energy at once in a nuclear explosion that levels most of Boston and destroys Ghidorah’s body entirely with the exception of one head, which Godzilla quickly catches, incinerates, and eats

Try to find these movies in their original versions. It's a pain in the ass and some are nearly impossible. The search will inevitably take you to some Russian server and you never know what you're gonna get because they put voice overs over everything. I once wanted to track down an early Kurosawa film and the only copy was a Japanese soundtrack with Russian voice over and English subtitles.
I'm not even sure if I could find some of these again if I tried.
