I like the implied background stuff a lot in these movies but one thing I never really got; were all the Furyans as badass as Riddick or is he a unique case?

Only Riddick canon for me is escape from butcher bay and pitch black. Chronicles can suck a dick with its sudden space opera fantasy bullshit. PB and butcher bay was pretty much hard sci-fi.

Vin already looks pretty old, if he doesn't put out a movie in the next 5 years or so he'll just be too busted to reprise the role again. A shame, but what can you do (though he could always make more games).
Still, we have a bunch of cool Riddick stuff anyhow. I re-watch Pitch Black all the time, it's so fun and weirdly shot that I always have a blast. Chronicles and Riddick are fine too, but more meh. Escape from Butcher Bay is a classic too, though it's so short I basically remember every nook and cranny there by now.

Judi Dench, Karl Urban and Thandie Newton lend Chronicles a bit of class and overall I liked its camp feel. Riddick is simple and for me great.

I liked a lot of the scenery shots. Made everything look so desolate. It was different for sure but also what made it so comfy.

The director's cut of Chronicles is pretty coherent, the narrative is consistent throughout and leads to a thematic conclusion.
Riddick is just "stuff happens the movie". It has no structure.

Almost all of it is just linear shooter, and even that small "open world/quest" portion that IS there is nothing comparing to EFBB.

just because both movies are about a bunch of people on a dangerous planet does not mean it is a copy, the latter's characters were better set but less developped, each character had a relation with riddick and a reason to be there, the ones in pitch black were randos who crash-landed and are mostly just there to get killed and only two/three become interesting by the end

Yes. Pitch Black has two parts, the first one of which is the set up and takes up the entire first half of the movie.
The problem with Riddick is that it has three parts - Riddick surviving on the planet which is a setup to Riddick playing midgames with the head hunters with is a setup Riddick and head hunters running away from monsters. We have a setup of the setup. It just feels pointless and disjointed. What is the movie about?
The head hunters from Riddick were admittedly more entertaining than the "bunch of randos" from Pitch Black but they were not conected to Riddick at all. In Pitch Black Carolyn and Johns play off Riddick and each reflect a part of his character. Imam and Jack the Girl are one dimensional characters but they represent aspects of Riddick's mindset.
In Riddick the thematic core revolves around the conflict between Papa Johns and Riddick but it is pretty weak bcuase it rides on us having watched Pitch Black and also becuase it actually tells us nothing about Riddick.

you can work it out by yourself, riddick talks multiple times about his primal instincts and survival, so perhaps it is about that
or maybe it is about redemption, with papa johns accepting his son't death and helping riddick escape compared to santana's merciless attitude which gets him killed.
the reason you think that the story has no plot or motif is simply because you choose to believe so, i could also say that chronicles is just a movie about a sereies of events happening to riddick without meaning, but that would be just a meaningless opinion

Riddick just wants to get off the planet and he has two obstacles: The entire fucking trek to the station and the bounty hunters he calls in from that station
