Films are easier to get into and you don't have to pay 4 bucks for 1/10th of a story. I'd think TPBs do okay though

Its the same reason all animation movies and tv from Pixar and Dreamworks is CG instead of hand-drawn cel animation, people dont want to live in the past.

Same reason that print media in general isn't very popular these days. Also, for whatever reason, even though comic book movies are the most normal thing ever now, the actual comic books themselves are still associated with shut-in geeks. No matter how hard they try to change that, the core demographic of comic book readers are single fat white dudes.

manga is much better than american comics, so I just read manga, read comic wikis to know the lore, and watch the comic book adaptations. Comicbook art is atrocious and they reboot constantly

The entire point of capeshit is to bring comic book content easier to a more broad audience now. Studios invent nothing new and know colorful comic book stories would attract people if they were made into something less weird with a less grand attention span.

Try reading cape comics sometime, they make Marvel movies look like fucking shakespeare.

To a huge extent it depends on the artist and how well they understand the medium. I read Ghost World about twenty years ago and it changed my mind about what a comic could be and do. Here was a work of art that captured the way teen girls act far better than any pretentious novel I had ever read. Thinking logically, if half your novel is just describing what is happening and half is dialogue, why not just draw it what is happening and put the dialogue in speech bubbles to make it clear who's saying it?

In other words: A good story with good characterization works in any medium you choose to convey it in. Boring stories with lazily written characters will be shit even with a $200m budget.

The normies ALWAYS appropriate. They're a parasite on real culture. And Disney fed off of it to appropriate nerd culture for pop culture. And when they get their hands on something, they warp and twist it to take something they didn't create to make it about what they want it to be.

And it amazes me how many normies call themselves nerds while they don't get it at all. They're all what metalheads and punks call posers.

So they don't read comic books because they're not cool. My nerarby comic shop in the early 2000's had tons of vintage comics, toys, etc. Now there's a small section of comic books (new shit only - all vintage shit is gone), and the rest is faggy shit like pop vinyl and Marvel t-shirts.

I know equally much from both sides so I'd also assume they are same size, also given that comics are more underrated than ever I'd say its pretty likely manga and comics are on par now.
And it's pretty much true that an overwhelming majority of Mangas are uninspired garbage, more-so than comics because actual industry products are becoming more rare and get replaced by quality artists who produce independent and niche graphic novels and alternatives, while manga is booming in Japan, so it's no wonder they'd produce more quicky cashgrab garbage that remakes the same concepts infinitely

Its not about the size of the industry, its about the diversity of companies. Big 2 does not own everything in japan with weridos going to image comics

Image/Top Cow gained huge market traction in the late 90s/early 2000s, but somehow the Marvel/DC cartel managed to crush it. It's a shame. They really did increase the standards of comic book artwork, and forced Marvel/DC to use better paper besides newsprint and forced the cartel to pander more to adult readers and collectors.
