I barely remember anything about the previous Godzilla movie, but I remember laughing twice in the movie. I laughed at the scene in the casino where Godzilla is wrecking shit on TV and all the gamblers are too focused on their game to care, and the scene where someone on the radio says everyone needs to get out of the city while there's still time, and it cuts to a very painful traffic jam. Actually, I don't remember why the second one was funny.
Point is, any good movie has some moments of levity. It doesn't have to come in the form of characters making wisecracks, but complete seriousness hurts, especially in a story as fundamentally silly as Godzilla.

Would the situation be different had all the characters been white?
