I like Dyson more. The father/daughter dynamic of Dyson and Alita I think is more fluent than the dollmaker/doll dynamic of Daisuke and Alita. They're both presumptuous to take "possession" of Alita at first, but with Dyson I think the motive to do so is more understandable. I also just really like the way Dyson's character arc in the movie ends - he risks his life to save his "daughter" when before he couldn't, and he's able to give his "daughter" the body she wanted when before he couldn't, and they're both made happy and whole for it.

Ido and Alita's relationship is a strong part of the movie and while manga Ido's possessiveness is interesting he basically wants her to get badly hurt in the motorball shit so she'd come back I prefer him being the reasonable parent. Same with Alita and Hugo. Yugo is an unlikable dick. Yes his motivations are clearer and he has a backstory. But Hugo is easier to feel something for. You're glad he has a change of heart. You're glad he does the right thing by turning down her heart. His arc in the movie is less about "why" he wants to get to Zalem and more "is it even worth it if it eats my soul and all I want is Alita?"

An instagram post says that it's June 25th. Fox US - last time Doc Ido called them - still had May 14th in their system (which is probably not correct anymore, there has to have been some delay). It's listed as July 17th in Australia, July 29th on Amazon UK, July 31st on Amazon France. I'm hoping that the June 25th date is legit for the US release.
