Imagine if G'kar was the one who took the deal with the Shadows.
I'm most of the way through season 2
Why does this have zero penetration in pop culture? It seems to be handling semi-serialized sci-fi pretty well way before the curve, and certainly before DS9 got to it in its later seasons.
>season 2
>already praising the serialization
You've seen nothing yet
why didn't the spaceelves just conquer the galaxy
What do you want?
MASS DRIVERS
You talking about Minbari? If so, something something SOULS something something
Will Robinson would have found it morally distasteful.
Bester > Chekov
throwing large rocks = WMDs... holy fuck who wrote this shit, colin powell?
Based thread, yes?
In the words of Senator Quantrell, "they're being bombed back into the stone age."
"Yessssh, your ships are very impressive in the air...but on the ground..."
Well they are indiscriminate.
isaac newton is the deadliest son of a bitch in space
>Why does this have zero penetration in pop culture?
Huge majority of people are turbo plebs.
>semi-serialized
Literally the first show that had clear preplanned multi year story arc.
>What do you want?
I'd like to live just long enough to be there when they cut off your head and stick it on a pike as a warning to the next ten generations that some favors come with too high a price. I would look up at your lifeless eyes and wave like this. Can you and your associates arrange this for me, Mr. Morden?
>it's a G'Kar and Londo trapped in an elevator episode
That was a great response.
Colin Powell has pretty interesting views on WMD's. According to him those are useless.
Centauri-Narn centric episodes tended to be kino. Sic Transit Vir and Rock Cried Out No Hiding Place are other great examples.
Wouldve been put in their place by vorlon chads
Hoo boy, are you in for some fun.
Later seasons have some super dodgy aesthetics but you watch this for the interpersonal relationships anyway.
>Londo and G’Kar in the elevator
>Lennier and Garibaldi’s motorcycle
>Motherfucking bagna cauda
>Zarthas and pretty much everyone else
Enjoy you lucky bastard, wish I could watch it again for the first time.
Londo is Gul Dukat right?
>Enjoy you lucky bastard, wish I could watch it again for the first time.
This.
based tradthot
Everyone who told Mr. Morden what they wanted got what they asked for.
>Delenn eating popcorn.gif
Had some great fucking dialogue too.
Ambassador Londo Mollari: But this - this, this, this is like being nibbled to death by... what are those Earth creatures called? Feathers, long bill, webbed feet... go 'quack'...
Ambassador Vir Cotto: Cats.
Ambassador Londo Mollari: Cats. Being nibbled to death by cats.
It has little penetration because Star Trek DS9 did their damndest to kill it. And because they had a higher budget and an existing franchise it almost worked, too- S5 almost didn’t get made.
It also suffered a lot from ‘science fictionitis’, early episodes had sets that were quite utilitarian as you would expect in a space station. Later on they started putting backlit colour cutouts everywhere which made the show look cheap, IMHO.
Fuck Mars
Who are you?
Tried to watch this the other day
What the fuck was the intro, holy shit. I've never heard anything as cringey as that opening narration. The awful special effects don't help, but that's more forgiveable.
very timely post,edgefag.
Dude it’s 25 years old and the CGI was done literally on a Commodore Amiga, what do you expect?
Skip the intro and go straight to the show.
>Jack the Ripper is a space alien
Did they seriously take inspiration from one of the hokiest episodes of Star Trek TOS, or is this like a common sci-fi trope?
Half life did the same thing with g-man “recruiting” people for his alien employers.
Who is the best character, and why is it Bester?
Sebastian was human, initially human anyway. The Vorlons had a use for a man with his talents, so they snagged him then tucked him away between jobs.
>What the fuck was the intro, holy shit. I've never heard anything as cringey as that opening narration.
90's and there wasn't much cringe in it back in the day. Intro narrations used to be far more common.
>The awful special effects don't help, but that's more forgiveable.
Special effects were bleeding edge back in the day. Babylon 5 was first time anyone did a movie or tv-show with all CGI special effects. 90's Star Treks switched to mostly digital effects only later on when everything was bit more mature tech. 16:9 versions of Babylon 5 actually have lost resolution over 4:3 aspect ratio version of the show due retarded series of fuckups by Warner Brothers. At first they refused to invest about 10k to professional grade wide screen monitors for production and then they refused to pay for pocket money to actually render everything wide screen aspect ratio. It was literally about 20 minutes of work for FX guys and leaving computers to run for the night. Cost mostly being made up of electricity. Then WB managed to lose FX-masters. Best part is that Babylon 5 was shot in wide screen aspect ratio film, occasionally taking another take for full screen for better framing of scene. Producers had basically read the writing on the wall that future will be wide screen and high definition. Sets of Babylon 5 were cheap, but everything could have been released as 720p, anything higher and sets would have looked too damn bad. But due to not paying that 10k in 90's and losing FX-masters, there is no way to get FX-sequences as nothing other than as lossy crop of 4:3 standard definition footage.
Jack the Ripper in B5 was human, abducted by ayy lmaos.
Actually, ‘The Last Starfighter’ was the first media with all-CGI effects, B5 was definitely the first TV show with them though.
Any original B5 fags here? I watched "The Gathering" over rabbit ears TV in 1994 when I was 11 years old. I used to think it ended at season 4 because S5 was cable-only we didn't have it.
Bester is fucking great, always remember that line in Futurama where Koenig says that after Star Trek he went on to be an actor.
Here in Australia it used to be on at 11pm Thursday nights, I was a chef at the time and had to haul ass to clean the kitchen and get home in time to watch it.
B5 threads are some of the most civilized on Yea Forums
its glorious.
>Londo and G,kar

>The psychic space CIA
>AYYLMAOS
>Time Travel Episodes that dont ruin The show and make sense
>Exciting space battles
>Well structured stories
>Londo and G'kar again
>Rangers
The only thing i didnt care for was the doctors episodes. They underutilized the magic life energy swapping machine .
who do you think was the best captain. Sinclair or Sheridan?
>Posting Best Girl
Boxleitner was the better actor, on top of the better seasons. Also what the fuck techno mages?
Boxleitner wasn't a depressed schizophrenic, either.
Techno mages were cool and actually made sense, and that “casual prophecy” coming true later on was mind blowing.
>Any original B5 fags here?
Yep. Yuropoor. Watched it on VHS releases for first 4 seasons, I and my buddies got those ridiculously expensive tapes as imports as collective and copied 'em. Local TV caught the US release schedule by 5th season. It was kinda weird to be year ahead most of the people that watched it on local tv.
Kinda like Star Trek: Insurrection, saw it on private screening in cinema like 6 months before it was released here. Basically back then we had two major cinema chains in the country, they had two major new cinema openings scheduled few months after release of elsewhere in the world. They wanted to have line up of effects heavy films on their new biggest screens in the country, so delayed they release. There was a Trekkie that traveled to conventions around the world..who managed to arrange for private screening of the movie, for free for 100% Trekkie audience. With greetings from director shot with video camera instead of trailers as lead in to movie.
I think it was on Sunday nights around 22 in my neck of woods. Then tv-chanel changed it Thursday evening.
>Sinclair or Sheridan?
Sinclair was probably better character, but actor behind character is a tragic story. As with lot of actors involved in B5. Paranoid schizophrenia is something real.
I once missed out on the chance to meet uberchad Jerry Doyle and I will always regret it.
If this wasn’t a blue board I’d spam her nudes.
For purely academic reasons of course.
Only question in potential meetings with people that starred Babylon 5 is when will they die. They will all die prematurely.
Here’s your ambassador Delenn, bro.
m.youtube.com
People I’d still like to meet:
Walter Koenig
Mira Furlan
Claudia Christian
The rest are all either dead or of no interest to me.
Actually, Peter Jurasik too if he’s still kicking.
I only knew her as the crazy French boomer in LOST and have gained so much more appreciation now watching B5. I didn't even realize she wasn't actually French and was such a qt only a decade earlier.
Watched it when I was too young to really get any or all of the themes, but I remember watching it whenever it came on... UPN I believe? Currently going back through it and introducing my wife to it for the first time. We finished watching Late Arrival from Avalon earlier today.
He is still around,
She was beautiful.
Is that the episode with G’kar and king Arthur going on righteous quests?
Correct, Arthur knights G'kar and everything
Michael O'Hare's season 1 opening narration still gives me chills. He was a stage actor and the foreboding delivery fit perfectly. As it turned out there was more to foreshadow than anyone realized at the time. I still see the Sinclair character through the lens of what happened to Michael O'Hare.
Bruce Boxleitner played a better action hero, but he was hitting the same notes I've seen many other actors hit. I still haven't seen another space captain reminisce about priests, or come close to becoming one.
(And yes, I know the Jesuit dialogue wasn't great. A lot of Sinclair's dialogue wasn't great but damned if he didn't try to sell it anyway.)
The way he says "all alone in the night" is so perfect.
His melancholy voice made the character feel more of a world weary war vet.
AHHHHH
>when it aired sci-fi (and anything "nerdy") was for fucking losers and not embraced by hipster fags and normalfags
>now "nerdy" is trendy but still people wont watch older shit, especially if its "dated" like B5
>people are fucking plebs
>I don't know how they see out of them anyway. Tiny, beady, squinty little things, aren't they? - Ambassador! - No, the Maker has not been kind to you.
It would fly well today. B5 was super anti-authoritarian.
MISTAH GARI-BALD-I
FUCK SHADOWS
Sunday evenings in United Bongdom were never the same.
Fucking this.
I found the episodes where G'Kar was portrayed in a sympathetic light to be the very best ones. Also I found his lust for human women to be very amusing.
Fuck the Vorlons, especially that asshole that replaced Kosh.
Apparently there was a joke that never made it to air, where Garibaldi got Londo to say ‘moose and squirrel’ because he sounds like Boris Badenoff.
Yeah, I think that the cinematography and the set design was the best in the pilot. It was dimly lit and moody. It was changed a little bit for the worse in the first season and the second season went full tv. I still love the show, but damn it!
>It's a Londo corrupts Lennier episode
Sinclair was bluepilled, Sheridan was redpilled
>he was always gentle
was she the most mistreated character?
I was kinda bummed that they replaced her with the blonde stick as the shows telepath, imagine my surprise when she returned later on.
I also liked the pilot doctor more than the one from the show.
what was weird with the blonde one's arc is that the magical black guy gave her telekinetic godlike powers but didn't think it was a good idea to remove the brainwashing switch from her brain instead
i guess it was unplanned and they had to take her out somehow
best science fiction show ever
MISTER GARIBALDI!
>The awful special effects don't help
Without Babylon 5 we wouldn't have all these CGI companies today.
Poor man's DS9
Lol?
Ds9 is a literal ripoff of B5 to a point where lawsuits were involved and st ip owners had to settle out if court.
I was kinda bummed out that they tried tto pair her with Ivanova
>commander, a woman is coming on board
>she used to be my gf, ugh, how can I get back into her pants?
couldn't get past the first season.
how is this bad?
Xhe is a roastie.
Her actress is a stunt actor. She was in Army of Darkness and multiple exploding console victims in Star Trek.
happened far too much. did he fuck every female he met?
Happens too much? It happens just once in the season because Sinclair has the hots for Catherine, who happens to be his on/off-relationship.
NO HIDING PLACE
FUCK YOU, LONDOOOOOOO!
>I'm most of the way through season 2
then stay out of these threads, you'll get spoilered to fuck
This.
but the sticky says we are supposed to be good bois and use the spoiler tags!
The choice of song for this scene is just bizzare.
>i guess it was unplanned and they had to take her out somehow
Every character had a trapdoor built into their storyline that could dump them out if they had to leave. Her's was pretty basic I admit but it worked okay, Susan's was pretty well done, sending her off to deep space for S5 was kind of a shame because I would have loved to have seen her running B5.
It was very forward thinking of JMS knowing that some people would inevitably leave and need to be replaced.
I'd love to see one day the original outline he made for the show, because there was a lot of things he had to cut(like the flashforward of Sinclair and Garibaldi talking when B5 was getting invaded and some other things that got squeezed out of Season 4 because of the compression that he couldn't put back into Season 5).
Sinclair > the other guy
the show is over 20 years old, people talking about it casually is a bit different than le ebin trolls obsessed with spoiling capeshit.
pleb
I remember JMS saying somewhere that it was supposed to make you feel a bit weird. You are seeing a brutal killing going on but then there is this upbeat song going on and it goes back and forth. Also the guy getting killed is a bad guy so there's that too that yeah, it might be right but.. It's... dare I say it... subversive.
youtube.com
intro kino
Based.
Her arc was meant to show someone rebelling against the Psi-corp(her backstory of loyalty to the corp despite their constant betrayals of her trust and her friendship with Ivanova(who hated the corp) was meant to push her in that direction) and be powerful enough to take down the Shadow-Earth Alliance hybrid ships in the last two seasons.
When she left they slotted Lyta into that role in the plot and found a way to make her get to that same place with most of the same plot-beats(Vorlon power-boost instead of magic black guy, rebelled against urKosh instead of Psi-Corp).
Her greatest tragedy was not getting with Zach, that was just endlessly heartbreaking, especially that elevator scene from Thirdspace(I think it was Thirdspace) when he told her how he felt.
Although I have to say I love the beginning (Voices Of Authority from Vol. 2 ost) in the S5 intro but when the actual credits start it's shit.
The different opening credits changing every season was kino.
Season 5 intro > Season 3 > Season 4 > Season 1 > Season 2
Not many fishes left in the sea
What I said here about S5 intro:
Too bad Franke didn't go 100% with the Voices Of Authority theme because it was already available and far better. Still... the beginning with the years going by with cool voiceovers is KINO!
>tfw when a 10/10 show has 2/10 budget
I really wish they'd remake this series, sink some actual cash into it, and stick to the adult screenwriting that basically every show has jettisoned in the past decade. It would stand out quite a bit from QuipQuest, Woke Lefty Politics Show, and We Want the Marvel Audience #34243. I think that's what stuck with me the most even as a young child watching this as reruns with my dad, how adult and everyday the writing was. Like being on a space station with a fuckload of aliens was as normal as going to work at a retail store. There was never any "Sir, we have a level five Quantum Loopdeydoopde. We must connect the Dinglehopper Circuit to the WubbaWubba Reactor" shit like StarTrek always fucking has.
It's unironically shit. Even worse than ds9 and voy.
>be a being made of pure light and energy
>wear a space suit that looks like a roach sticking its head through an old bagel
What did Vorlons mean by this?
>her friendship with Ivanova
Ivanova got fingerbanged by one of those psychic women. It wasn't a "friendship".
Of course it's not like you could say no to a psychic lesbian. She'd get on Spacebook and just fucking dump everything you've ever done in your life on there
I hated her, the constant whining about muh poor psychics was annoying. Even worse when it put the station in danger.
The episode when the two of them were stuck in a burning elevator and K'gar was content to just sit there and watch Molari die even though he would die with him. He was so happy with that he was joking with glee as the elevator was going to cook both of them. Kino.
Not many fishes left in the sea but Londo and me
Usually they would temporarily find some common ground and start to work together to overcome the obstacle. Not here. Not with G'kar involved. Brilliant and kino!
Which movie was the best
apparently their scenes in the elevator were written completely straight, it was katsulas that just improved all the laughing like a nutjob stuff in one of the takes and they ran with it.
I would say probably In The Beginning despite it makes too many past connections with familiar characters and can be a bit of a clip show and A Call To Arms which was essentially a decent pilot to Crusade with older Sheridan.
Thirdspace has some lovecraftian potential (and love the Theremin in the ost) but it's pretty dumb. Same with River Of Souls, although it was nice to see Garibaldi back.
Apparently Andreas went off script and improvised the laughing and mocking of Londos cries for help. JMS came down from his office to complain then looked at the footage and kept it in.
First two are great, the others are on another level.
m.youtube.com
this was such a nice thread, why did you do this?
I feel like there was some potential with The Hand and the ghost ship storyline but the budget was so small and the effects and the sets... yeah... it was a failure.
To this very day I still don't understand what they were trying with this pilot. Everything about it is off. Did JMS ever talk about it?
it barely got penetration in sci-fi culture when it aired, completely obliterated by star trek.
B5 incels getting BTFO!!!
If you didn't watch both then you were a pleb.
youtube.com
I love the show but this always made me laugh.
Same here.
Stay triggered b5 incel!
Blatant kike thievery always wins!
Go back to your childish utopia science fantasy, trekfag. Grown ups are talking about science fiction.
Ira is that you? Shouldn't you be finishing up with that DS9 documentary rather than shitting up B5 threads.
This, the show needs a reboot badly. But it’d be terrifying to see it gutted like a fish and packed full of SJW themes and ‘reversing the polarity of the quantum multivariant matrix’.
TNG was the last good Trek, and B5 was in a lot of ways better than TNG. the only thing DS9 had over B5 was a bigger budget and an existing fan base.
>Why does this have zero penetration in pop culture?
Because it has the production values of a Command and Conquer cutscene, lacks fun, and the story is cliche sci fi crap with no heart.
That which is asserted by tastelets may be disregarded by cultured gentlemen. Fag.
Vorlons seeded life throughout the universe, the encounter suit is to stop them being recognised by the cultures they created.
>when DS9fags storm a thread
Why are they so insecure
That’d be unusual, JMS had a blanket ‘no ad lib’ policy.
Have you actually watched the show? Please be honest now. I mean even if you did and didn't like it, it's still miles ahead of the errant twinkery that goes on in the likes of STD today.
Kosh is best boy.
>we don't even know if it's the same vorlon under that suit
>I have always been here
>I don't understand
>good
It’s funny beacuse /pol/ and reverse/pol/would flip a tit if they ever saw this show.
>Susan was jewish
>G’kar compares the situation on Narn to our holocaust
>muh jesuits
>that part where the human religious presentation was all the religions lined up including a jew
>Delenn would probably be disregarded as muh stronk wymin
>latent lesbo shit with Susan and the psychic girl whose lover was a nigger
>nigger doctor goes around BLACKING white women everywhere he goes
>last stand against the shadows and vorlons is multi culti propaganda
>delenn and Sheridan is racemixing propaganda
>How does it end?
In fire.
let's not forget about the entire human civil war
>Vorlons seeded life throughout the universe, the encounter suit is to stop them being recognised by the cultures they created.
they didn't seed life, they interfered with the development of younger races, manipulating them so they'd view them in a positive light, they were just as big a bunch of dicks as the shadows in the end, just had different methods.
You’d think so, I’ve been browsing /pol/ for years and I have no issues with B5.
And that’s coming from someone who loved Star Trek until Black Vulcan, Harry Kim, Captain Wobblehead McMilftits and their merry little band of pointlessly progressive spastics killed the franchise for me.
Another B5 moment just came back to me... Londo cheating at cards and the ice cold drink.
But then again
>strong white male leads
>heterosexuality everywhere
>entire shadow war is two subversive cunt factions pitting people against one another for the lolz
>actual well written, strong but at the same time gentle female characters
Characters having flaws is something that is rare today, especially female and black characters.
>Another B5 moment just came back to me... Londo cheating at cards and the ice cold drink.
ywn have six prehensile penises, why live?
Reminder that Bester was right
>does drink have any alcohol in it?
>oh it’s fine, don’t worry about it
>good, because even a smallest drop can send a Minbari into a psychotic, murderous rage
>on second thought, have this one instead
Am I mistaking her for someone else or was she the one infamous for banging fans of the show back in the day?
He went from being a needlessly dickish villain to being a morally grey man with a clear purpose and reason for doing what he does.
Now I don't think I would have supported his intention to turn mankind into a race of super telepaths but to each his own I guess.
She did sleep with a fan, but Im not sure if she did it more than once.
His actor had nothing to work with but a tent on wheels, a pretend periscope's handle, and their voice, yet they were able to convince us that a powerful, brilliant, artsy, caring, and sarcastic bastard was in that suit.
Ahhh Lennier made a great straight man for Londo.
But the shadows aren't interested in some small minded backwater slave race
They literally say it to his face in the show.
Look at G'Kar and Morden's exchange during Morden's first visit to B5. G'Kar could be satisfied with destroying the Centauri and making Narn safe, while Londo wanted EVERYTHING. The Shadows needed a man who couldn't be satisfied to get the widespread conflict and chaos that they wanted.
So this did became a conservative talk show host and ended up the #6 most popular radio talk show in the US?
What a career path. Has anyone actually listened to his radio show?
He's dead too. Fuck.
That motherfucker broke into the Post Office!
You can get into real trouble for that kind of thing.
Most of the bad guys did nothing wrong
I was too young to really get it, but the whole endgame of the shadow arc blew my mind. Like when Londo nuked the island to spite Morden.
>Claudia Christian
I'd still bang her.
Most of the bad guys in that show were antagonists instead of bad guys. They had mostly valid reasons for their perspectives in opposition to the protagonists. Compare that to a lot of other shows where the bad guys were just bad guys.
She sobered up(and did a TEDx talk about it) so your chances aren't as good as they once were sadly.
Everything is better than STD, that's not an accomplishment. This show is boring garbage and a relic of the cable network days.
I love Boxleitner's voice, I wish he appeared in more roles both as VA and regular actor.
Dude, TNG, DS9, SG1, etc were big when B5 was airing. Lots of other smaller sci-fi shows came out around then, too, like Earth Final Conflict, Space Above & Beyond, that one about colonists on a desert planet, and some others.
this is now a teep thread. normies not welcome here.
>did he fuck every female he met?
What, you don't?
>I was kinda bummed out that they tried tto pair her with Ivanova
I liked how Ivanova wakes up in one episode and says "Why does my mouth always taste like carpet in the morning?"
I really get annoyed by "divided human race" meme
Earth getting cu cked out of its colonies was really lame. Meanwhile every other alien race are perfectly harmonious space faring powers.
>there are purplefags posting is this thread RIGHT NOW
GREEN DIES
DO YOU FEEL LIKE A HERO YET?
except for green and purple, and the minbari castes fucking eachother up, and the centauri houses murdering eachother for control of their royal court.
narn confirmed master race
They have been outlawed by all civilised planets!
Mars wanting/getting independence is the worst trope in sci-fi ever
That was my only problem with the show, when it come to the aliens they were all pretty neutral for each one, but when it come to the human or it's "pure saints" or "ebil nazis".
G'Kar couldn't kill him in that story for fear of retaliation against his people if i remember correctly. Great plot
>Literally the first show that had clear preplanned multi year story arc.
In major US network TV, yes. Some British and other foreign TV shows had pre-planned arcs before this, and Straczynski cited the British ones as his inspiration for doing it in US TV.
But every 5 year arc you see on tv is cause of Babylon 5. Even shows like Lost and Battlestar Galactica used it as a template for their stories. It also kickstarted the heavy use of cgi in tv. Just cause no one references it doesn't mean it wasn't influential.
>But every 5 year arc you see on tv is cause of Babylon 5
*DS9
DS9 exists because of Babylon 5 (and both are great).
Colonizing mars at all is the dumbest idea in scifi
>get pitched the outline for B5
>decline
>start producing a show that dumps the standard trek format suddenly by coincidence wink wink
kek, did they really think this would fool anyone?
I think you're over-simplifying a bit here. There is factionalism and evil influence going on especially among the Centauri and the Narn. If anything, the Centauri are even more Nazified than the humans are. And there is conflict among the Minbari as well, even without Shadow influence. The non-alligned aliens don't get explored as deeply as the four main protagonist races (human, Narn, Minbari, Centauri).
Also, I think they did a good job of showing how a reasonable Joe Blow like Zack the security guard would be attracted to a Fascist power structure. And how some of Sheridan's old mentors and friends end up fighting him not because they're evil, but because they're so Lawful Good that they can't imagine rebelling against Clarke.
Well I can certainly sympathize with wanting more and more of an edge, the closer the interstellar community becomes. Trust is nice, but certainty is better. The real problem with Psi-Corps is how cultish it is, and with their telepathic powers, they can make the cult run really deep.
After all, as they showed with Garibaldi, they can turn anyone they want into basically a slave.
Imagine if DS9 had as good as diplomatic scenes and plots as B5 did.
I'm pretty sure my cousing (who was a 16-yo girl when the show aired) used to fap to Bester.
I'd still do all of them.
Can't blame her
yeah, imagine if they had a plot about using subterfuge to draw an ally to war
Also PPGs were great
those were factions within their government, not comparable to a divided people literally along grounds beyond political affiliation
I don't know if you should, man. Especially Walter looks kinda fragile.
Dubs on both of them confirm this!
I had fun to Ivanova, Delenn and Talia the most I guess. Even bought the magazine when I heard that Claudia had done a nude shoot.
Blake's 7, there is one major difference between European TV and US network TV. Scale and scope. European productions aren't usually forced into format of 22 to 26 episode seasons, length of seasons may vary and seasons are usually shorter. Blake's 7 for example ran for 4 seasons of 13 episodes. International markets, including US import, for European tv shows have started to conform US fixed length seasons, either full 26 episode seasons or 13 episode half seasons.
If we compare B5 some of contemporaries like Buffy that also had long story arcs, there was very little planning on multiple year story arcs and things often too 360 turn and walked away. 4th season of Buffy is great example, they ditched the big evil of the season half way into the season and wrote the replacement for rest of the season overnight.
Minbari had civil war in 4th season. I suspect it got cut short because human civil war story arc and risk of not getting 5th season, much like human civil war.
>I suspect it got cut short because human civil war story arc
It was cut yeah. Same with the ending of the Shadow War and other things.
Shadow War ended when intended. It is second half of 4th season that got heavily compressed and contained storylines of first half of 5th as well as intended ones. That is the main reason why 5th season feels like it is filled with filler episodes and minor story arcs like telepath conflict being stretched on and on.
Yes, the timing is correct but Into The Fire was originally a two-parter.
I'd say that is a minor change when compared to squeezing entire season worth of content to half season.
Oh yes, totally. I would have loved to see Intersections In Real Time as a season finale. What a quiet but dark cliffhanger that would've been.
I listened to him every night he was on if possible, and he even read a message from me on the air on the night of Ronald Reagan's funeral. I really wish he were still alive today because I miss his perspective and humor, even if I didn't always agree with him.
It would have been a perfect season finale. I suspect there would have been far less alien involvement in human civil war if stuff had gone according to original plans.
Congratulation!
You found the ONLY real Pleb-filter for so-called SciFi fans.
I envy you watching it for the first time.
Keep an eye on ye good ole Lurkers Guide while watching this epic.
It was the prime resource back then for all things B5.
midwinter.com
>Lurkers Guide
The best!
Also if you want more "JMS Speaks" and go really deep (like deep deep undercover) check out JMSnews archive. Contains every damn post from JMS about B5 from somewhere around 1991.
I wish we'd gotten more about these aliens.
what happened to the giant mantis running the black market?
IIRC there was enough heat on him so he bailed the station. Either that or he was assassinated.
>Why does this have zero penetration in pop culture?
It has some penetration. I heard about it for years before I got around to watching it myself.
>Keep an eye on ye good ole Lurkers Guide while watching this epic.
>It was the prime resource back then for all things B5.
A wiki from time before wikis were a thing. Fun fact, JMS himself used it as reference when they were doing the show.
Minbari have
>best girl
>best boi
>best warships

How can other races even compete?
By getting the Minbari's souls when they die?
>best value and culture
>oh noes these guys killed one of us because we are retarded better exterminate all of them from the men to the children
It's a good show, but I prefer ds9 which is also a good show.
This alien cutie comes into your room and says she wants to watch you while you sleep for 3 nights. Wat do?
I liked her better before she turned into that thing
t. warrior caste
The death of my enemies. Also if you guys are following me around don't watch me masturbate.
I would give her a warm bath of course.
>season 2
Buckle in. You haven't even got to the best version of the opening theme yet. Let alone the best of the show.
I really need to rewatch Babylon 5. I watched the whole thing high as fuck and it was an amazing experience but it's rather hazy.
>How can other races even compete?
It took only a decade for Vree to start abducting and probing humans after they invented FTL tech. Ayy lmao.
underrated
Yes. Watched it when it was first aired on Channel 4 in Bongland. It's still the yardstick by which I judge any sci-fi show.
>I went to the rock to hide MY FACE
>And the rock cried out
All you need to know is they got the full Sheridan experience.

To post on Yea Forums as we do is to leave behind joy, and love, and companionship, because we know it to be transitory, of the moment. We know each thread will turn to ash. Only those, who are newfags can imagine that threads are eternal. You should embrace that remarkable illusion. It may be the greatest gift you have ever received...
>His melancholy voice made the character feel more of a world weary war vet.
I came to appreciate his character more as I got older.
>You talk like a Minbari, Commander
I really didn't like Thirdspace. I don't know if it was just my mood at the time. I was in the army and borrowed it from the base's resident geek on VHS, expecting it to be a good addition to the series. It felt completely forgettable. In the Beginning was more interesting.
Also 10000% more interesting.
It was underutilized but it DOES get brought back, even two seasons later. I at least appreciate that they remembered it existed.
The station also actually felt huge and with a lot to explore
>hey Londo other people have to touch those cards, quit rubbing your dicks on them!
I always liked him better, but now that we know all the shit that went on with Michael O'Hare, it is quite understandable that he wasn't in condition to star a show.
>The station also actually felt huge and with a lot to explore
Ships in B5 were pretty big as well.
>literally looking like an halo gun
>best warships
Not anymore.
But EA ships were the best designs in the series anyways, and some of the best of sci-fi as a whole. Omegas are my favorite, but are aesthetic as hell.
Shadow ships were creepy enough.
amazing how they copied a halo gun design a decade before it existed
I absolutely love some of design ideas they had in EA warships. Stuff like oh some 20 meters of steel as armor protection. Crude, but works. Personally, the favorite design is Starfury.
Is she no longer a girl?
My first girlfriend collected vintage Kirk/Spock slash publications.

I have questions
brapposting is older than you or I
>Zathras have sad life, probably have sad death, but at least there is symmetry
I bet he posts on Yea Forums
No. Zathras never post on Yea Forums. Zathras, however, often post here. But Zathras only lurker. Zathras not even heard of Yea Forums.
You are not the one.
I actually bought a couple of the Starfury model kits. Tried to assemble one and it was warped, so the collectors edition one with the enamel pin and the cert of authenticity personally signed by JMS stayed in the shrink wrap.
I am building one right now. I'm in the process of puttying the wings and I'm going to be attaching them with lots of support-struts on it. It's certainly not a beginner-level model.
Is it this Ep where the guy dragged the Ayylmao in a Babylon5 court accusing him of abducting his Gramps?
It´s still one of my favorite kino moments.
I never finished Babylon 5, I was maybe halfway through. Should I finish it?
Nope. You have been pleb filtered.
You´re a Nigger.
Watch all of seasons 1-4, and the final episode of season 5. The rest of season 5 is kind of optional as far as I'm concerned.
>I actually bought a couple of the Starfury model kits.
How much those cost now? Probably been like 15 years when those were actually available.
>Tried to assemble one and it was warped,
That kind of stuff happens when models are stored improperly in too hot, too cold or both for decade or two.
>It's certainly not a beginner-level model.
I doubt it was supposed to be hard to build model originally.
I have become bit too lazy to make models. I would absolutely love if someone like Eaglemoss would pick up license for B5.
>Is it this Ep where the guy dragged the Ayylmao in a Babylon5 court accusing him of abducting his Gramps?
Yes, but think it was further down the line. Vree got hyperspace tech in 1930's and they started to abduct people on Earth in 1940's.
i always thought g'kar bared a resemblance to giles from buffy. something about their mouths, maybe
>tfw a kid once threw a rock at you
THEY USED MASS DRIVERS
>I have forgotten how to dance and my shoes are too tight
It It's hilarious how many thots G'Kar got.
>tfw you understand now
I built it in 2001 after buying it in ‘97 and keeping it at room temperature the whole time. It was just a badly made kit. I’ve been plastic modelling since the 80’s so it wasn’t due to a lack of experience.
>not being a glorious greenfag
Fuck off and die, purple.
Sounds more like lawful neutral than lawful good.
Shave her head.
He has the Chad jawline.
>when somebody noticed and smashed it
I can’t believe how many of the cast is dead.
And some of them weren’t even that old.
They just lack full access to the information that the main characters have. But you're right, I guess - they just don't want to listen.
Lennier was 100% pure.
he was an incel
There used to be a real sense of being in another world in sci-fi shows. Stuff like Babylon 5, Farscape, Battlestar Galactica. I hate how the current trend is to make sci-fi "realistic". Fuck that shit. I want to live in a fantasy world for 30 minutes. I live in a realistic world the rest of the day.
He could smash any alien pussy he wanted. He just had oneitis for Delenn.
> I hate how the current trend is to make sci-fi "realistic"
Reminds me of the most recent battlestar galactica having those shitty war on terror parallels.
Realistic and lived-in is good. That's part of what made Babylon 5 so good.
Sci fi has always been about making parallells to our current day, taking trends to extremes - but Babylon 5 was one of those shows which doesn't beat you over the head with its messages. Like, they had a lesbian couple, but they didn't focus on it - there was no "lesbian episode" where they explained how it was OK to have teh ghey; it was just a normal part of life which nobody gave a shit about.
I like both hyper-realistic "hard science fiction" like Gravity and Alita and "magical science fiction" like Babylon 5 when it's done well.
>hyper-realistic "hard science fiction" like Gravity and Alita
One of these things is not like the other
"hyper realistic" might be an over-statement, because Gravity is based on current-world science, while Alita is based on projecting stuff like biotech and megastructures into the far future. What I was trying to go for is that Babylon 5 has some very spiritual and magical elements in it which make it more like soft SF. Some of the Technomage stuff makes it so that magic and science is the same thing, but when we're talking about the original Babylon 5 series it's like Lord of the Rings in space.
You will never truly appreciate the fantastic things until you've had to live in conditions that resemble those of a slave. To have such pleasures, to be able to immerse yourself into another world, that is something you can't really enjoy unless you're incarcerated.
>Any original B5 fags here?
I still have a CINEMAFANTASTIQUE magazine that went behind the scenes of The Gathering. Have to go dig it up
Rocks are cheap and indiscriminate and really damage planets.
Loved the series... I wonder if there would ever be a reboot.

>All you need to know is they got the full Sheridan experience.
John "Nuke 'em" Sheridan
>There used to be a real sense of being in another world in sci-fi shows. Stuff like Babylon 5
You mean like the VIEWSONIC and SONY logos on the CRT computer monitors in most of the early episodes.
One of my hates of Star Trek was something would be handy and solve problems and a few episodes later it could be helpful but they apparently had a mind wipe at the end of every episode. B5 introduced something and a few episodes or maybe a season later someone would go "hey that thing we used before?" and pull it out and would give it a try.
Also the Episode "The Corps is Mother, The Corps is Father" is possibly one of the best example of a evil organization ever. Star Trek never had the nads to show something like Psi Corps. Or Earth Govs torturers.
I got impression that you tried to build it recently. If it went bad in just few years or immediately out of molds it is sign genuine bad quality. Either bad model design or cheap material.
it's because Star Trek had a different approach
Nasa actually evaluated the Star Fury as a practical design. Their only mod would of been keeping engines closer inboard assuming you could actually make the drives.
That bothered the shit out of me too in Trek. The best example I've seen of the opposite is Stargate SG-1, where they'd bring up strategies/technologies/characters from 5+ seasons earlier if it was relevant to the current episode and use them or at least explain why they couldn't be used.
Star Trek was almost always syndicated, the order and play time of individual episodes were basically random in many cases so episodic stories worked best. DS9 tried its best to break away from that format, Voyager had 2 parters at most, and ENT did away with it pretty much completely cause it was heavily tied into UPN instead (which folded).
>I see a great hand reaching out of the stars, and the sounds of billions of people calling your name.
>My followers?
>Your victims.
It's always great when a character starts out as a comic relief drunk has been and midway through the show has committed genocide.
And that he will become Emperor. That plus the prophecy of genocide is somewhat freakish.
>Londo had three chances left to escape his fate, he'd already missed two others
Eternal end of the episode reset button of 90's Treks.
TV shows in general were episodic until mid to late 90's. When we go to syndication, because TV in general was fairly strictly episodic outside of soap operas, local stations in general didn't even care about order of episodes. Stuff like two part episodes started in 80's.
Even in 2000's we have had Firefly happening. Original network airing a show out of order because network executives wanted to do little bit of micromanagement and kill the show. Fox in particular was famous for this kind of shit.
DS9 was first run syndication like TNG. Voyager and ENT like you said ran originally on UPN. That is kinda ironic it comes to episodic/serialized nature of shows.
For as fan of both Trek and B5, I rate DS9 my least favorite Trek. Sole reason is when I watch DS9 I usually get urge to watch B5. Even if it technically is supposed to be peak 90's Trek.
They didn´t.
EVERYBODY left them WELL the fuck alone, until WE bumbled along.
All punch drunk because earlier we kicked some retard psychopath Dilgar butt and PROMPTLY got stomped almost into extinction as we didn´t know their secret fucking handshake DOESN´T involve actually shooting live guns..
nothing would have happened if they followed the Trek rule of not shooting first
The last year of Babylon 5 ran on TNT, and was right before (or after?) a wrestling time block. As you can imagine, there wasn't much in common between the show-wrestling audience and the Babylon 5 audience. So TNT pretty much killed Crusade - the Babylon 5 sequel series - through excessive network notes and schedule fuckery, if I remember correctly.
Also JMS kind of pissed off the suits at TNT throughout the run. Like how TNT gave them a budget to have a reunion episode with the original B5 cast, but JMS instead spent it all on upgrading the Crusade sets.
Blake's 7 is so fucking good. The people that complain about Bablyon 5's production values have no idea how bad things can get.
Avon is up there with Londo, G'kar, Dukat and Garak as one of the best sci-fi television characters ever.
you didn't watch the rest of the show did you
That´s nice.
Only problem in B5 universe there ARE NO MAGIC SPACE SHIELDS.
So if you don´t shoot first you´re not gona shoot 2nd for fucking sure.
Until you get to Vorlon or pseudo-Vorlon levels of tech, and have regenerating bio-organic hulls.
>raising your shields
Yep.
Makes much more sense than all that shield fuckery.
Rip jerry
>japanese captain
Good call on Crusade being fucked by network. I should have remembered that as example show with schedule getting fucked by network. Honestly have watched it like twice, when it originally ran and like once on DVD, came with the big B5 box. Honestly Crusade never had a chance. It was made too soon after B5 without enough time to actually develop the show. It had kinda interesting premise, but it went south from the day one.
I do love the idea of few meters of armor in B5 ships, one thing that is magical in B5 are nukes. Those don't exactly work that way in vacuum.
