Because those were naturally written more realistic characters. When you have characters being created, or pushed more into the spotlight, to fill SJW and feminist agendas there is no creative or passionate motivation to write those characters. They're only being written into the script, or the script is being tailored more around them, solely for political reasons to have more "strong female characters", it's not an organic or natural process, it's a forced one, so they end up coming off as arrogant and smug Mary sues.

Just look at the quality of writing between season 1 and season 2.
It essentially went from Rust discussing blowing peoples minds with his dark nature discussing the philosophy of pessimism and nihilism. Lovecraft references and a plotline that made people sit at the edge of their seat, to a stronk female cop asking if Colin Farel is a feminist.
Season 3 was much better than 2 imo but it still had it's bullshit forced modern politics at some points.
