The idea that a boy would want some ugly cabbage patch kid was already pretty fuckin gay to begin with. GI Joe, turtles, and transformers already existed. I think Chucky would already work better if the kid receiving it was dismissive and annoyed that he got some faggy girls doll instead of a cool army man or something

I just think the origin of putting a serial killer in a toy doll via voodoo to be much more interesting than just another evil robot.

I'm not sure, I'm just giving in to my worst suspicions. If it's a robot then I suspect the movie has to be some commentary on technology and AI because it's the future now and AIs are gon get you Black Mirror style.

So is this really about a killer robot doll with no magic involved rather than a doll possessed by a murderer? If so that's fucking retarded, and actually less believable, even if magic doesn't exist in our world. An AI is somehow complex enough to malfunction and become a murderer, and they were retarded enough to think a child having an intelligent robot was a good idea in the first place? Voodoo is a much better idea, and the fact that Chucky gradually turns into a living organism within the doll was a creepy and interesting aspect of it.
