Joseph already laid the groundwork for keikaku fights, and he already stretched hamon to its limits.
Part 3's the slowest part, but the inclusion of Stands as a whole paved the way for the surreal, more creative fights later on.

In Part 8 it’s also to deliver plot information organically since he’s trying a mystery story instead of an adventure one.

Kira was fun but Pucci and Valentine are better written. I think Pucci and Valentine are tied favourites for me. They’re different spins on the ‘evil that doesn’t realise it’s evil’ concept. Pucci combines it with elements of Greek tragic heroes and is involved in the plot constantly, and feels almost like a secondary protagonist himself at times. Valentine is a much more realistic, narcissistic kind of evil who, just like Pucci, genuinely believes he’s doing the right thing but in reality is only helping himself.

It reinforces fate as the main theme, and that it’s true within the JJBS universe. RS is autonomous and activates whenever someone nearby is fated to die under tragic circumstances in the very near future. It chases after them and if they touch it, they can instead die painlessly and mercifully then and there. If they resist and break the stone, then their tragic fate is set in stone for good. The sculptor feels sad for them because he saw in the rubble the terrible, painful fates that awaited them, but prayed that they’d find meaning in them. It’s a metaphor for dealing with the fear of death and giving your life meaning, they were fated to die in painful ways because they were gangsters, but they found the strength to keep fighting anyway and gave their deaths meaning by getting Giorno into power. They would have died no matter what they did, but by taking a stand and dying for a just cause they died with some level of satisfaction and also made the world a bit better of a place to be in as well.

Why Araki decided to wait until the end to use this metaphor I’m not entirely sure, but it’s meant to sum up what exactly the moral of the story was.

I love Valentine because he is such an excellent foil to Johnny, even more than Pucci is to Jolyne. Valentine's motive on the surface is just, even noble while Johnny's is selfish. However, no matter how much Valentine says he needs the Holy Corpse for the selfless goal of United States protection and hegemony on the world stage, he's still a manipulative selfish prick who uses the very underlings he swears to protect. Johnny, on the other hand, is completely selfish with his desire for the Corpse, because he obviously just wants to walk again. It takes his best friend nearly dying (the Sugar Mountain arc) for him to realize what really matters and leads into the perfect ending where nobody ultimately gets the Holy Corpse.
