It’s all because of Iron Man. They got an entire generation hooked with one decent capeflick and they keep coming back no matter how stagnant the characters or story become, because they associate it all with seeing Iron Man for the first time and think they will experience that magic again. And now in the age of identity politics Disney doesn’t even have to try, just take a random superhero and mold it into the desired demographic.
I remember all my friends roasting me for “hating fun” because I didn’t like Iron Man. If I’d know that was the entire future of America cinema was going to be Iron Man sequels I might have just an heroed.
